Would someone please draw parallels to Russias own breakaway region Chechnya? Imagine what would have happened if China had stepped in in favour of the Chechnyian rebels much like what Russia is doing for the South Ossetians seperatists. Can you spell hypocrites?

This was on Al Jazeera news comments.

The person does make sense.

Thanks to those who answered, but apparently I did not explained clearly what I wanted to know, and that is if August 7 has any meaning (previously), because this same day, in 2007, was when Georgia said that Russia had dropped a bomb on its territory.

Could it be that this data has any special meaning for Georgia or Russia and it was because of that that last year we had that accusation and this year the full conflict (that may have been tried last year)?

I beleive it does not have any connection. If the incident last year was serious enough they war would have started last year itself. IMO August 7th bombing was a isolated incident.

That picture speaks a 1000 words. It is plausible that the US and Israel are planning an Iran attack and wants Russia to be preoccupied with Georgia. So all they had to do is pat Saakasvilli on his back and say, go ahead ally, we have your back covered. Saakasvilli thinking the US will aid him has opened a can of worms, now he just can't put those worms back into the can and close the lid. He is in a mess.

Infact this is the best time to attack Iran, Russia busy with Georgia, China with the Olympics, Israel and USA can move in without anyone to put up any form of resistance, military or diplomatic. Iran is very vulnerable now.

But Saakashvilli's regime is over. Expect a coup and a pro-Russian President coming to power.

I'm almost hoping for it. This nutjob just unleashed his true colours to the world.
Indiscriminately killing civilians, breaking every convention, unprovoked attacks on Russia and pretending the Caucasus is his own personal playground and everything belongs to him.

The more and more you look at it, the more and more Saakashvili appears to be a carefully placed US puppet.
Western-educated, strongly supportive of NATO membership, close ties with US, and an appalling human rights record.

He could use a good boot from office. America has been seeding it's sock puppets across the world for far too long now.
Russia doesn't have to put up with this crap.

America just set up the ABM Shield in Europe and now their looking to box Russia in all over the Caucasus.
If America is so hellbent on reigniting the Cold War than Russia knows how to play Proxy Wars all too well.
Let them take their medicine.

Russia would not directly step in for Iran anyway, just as U.S. would not directly step in for Georgia.

And I said this before. U.S. cannot possibly occupy Iran. If air strikes are carried out however, expect a major Iranian insurgency into Iraq and Afghanistan. Iran has the ability to flood these conflict regions. By attacking Iran, U.S. may just as well through away any hopes they have for Iraq and Afghanistan.

it was the same pointless crap between who was it?

A world war is very likely of the present trend continues, let me elaborate, here are the red lines which if crossed is the point of no return:

Russia bombing Tbilisi
Russia accidentally killing US soldiers stationed in Georgia.
Israel attacks Iran along with USA and I believe this will be the main flashpoint for all out war!

Please note the above are the red lines(not in any order) and not a action-reaction list.

Bosnia and Serbia; and they weren't looking for allies, Bosnia was calling upon the International community to come in and stop the mass genocide of Bosnian Muslims which was occurring at the hands of the Serbs.

The UN, who had been sitting on their hands all along were not permitted to engage in hostilities due to their ROE.
Another monumental failure of the UN. The US eventually launched air strikes on Serbian forces and allowed peacekeepers to occupy a buffer zone between the two sides which eventually brought about an end to the Bosnian War.

I agree there is a feeling of helplessness in watching this sorry tale unfold but also agree that a sleeping giant like Russia awakening could be a step in stopping the real planners and war-mongerers that have found it too easy to controll the world, including you and me. Have faith, watch and be prepared and it wouldnt do any harm to cross your fingers for a while.

Here it is anyway.

  • The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed the hope that the belligerent rivals would exercise vigilance to help resolve the issue through peaceful means. According to the Information and Press Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qashqavi elaborated on the consequences of the current crisis and said continuation of such crises could leave negative impacts on the stability and security of Caucasus as well as the entire region.

In latest news, Russian war ships have entered territorial waters of Abkhazia, and are moving south. Turkish ships have been reported to be moving North, possibly towards Poti. The two fleets could be less than 50 miles from each other in the next several hours.

OMG this is INSANE. I am loosing my cool. I have a few question-

So the Russian Fleet is in Georgian waters as Abkhazian water is Georgian waters?

And are the news site implying we have a Turkish and Russian Naval confrontation ahead of us? Are the Turks crazy? What interests do they have in the war?
