Wiki says in regards to Abkhazia's Land forces:
"in time of peace they have personnel of 3,000 to 5,000 and in case of war further 45,000"

Yes I am familiar with Russian forces and iquipment, being Indian I see regular exercises between the Indian and Russian forces and India uses Russian equipment. I am no expert but I can say the Georgians have to put up a brave fight. Its sad lives with be lost.

Ah thanks for the info, surprised how 45,000(approx) irregular troops of Abkhazia could attack and take over Georgian towns defeating the regular Georgian army trained by the Americans and armed with NATO weapons.

They will never give up. I heard the Georgian President say that they will not let the Russians rule them again. And he said it very strongly. And yes Manson I agree with you that Georgia is the one who provoked the attacks, now they have to face the wrath of the bear! But its not going to be a easy war for any side, as we can see the Georgians are still shelling S.Ossetia. They are not going to give up.

To be fair though, the US / NATO (US influence) have been ringing Russia with bases since the soviet breakup. The Russian actions are simply reactions to moves made by the US and NATO.

Well maybe the former members of the USSR were justified in seeking protection with NATO against Russian aggression. You are kinda turning the cause and effect upside down IMO. Georgia wasn't the one attacking Russian soil. You can blame Georgia for it's support/ignoring of Chechnian rebel/terrorist groups, but Georgia never attacked Russia with it's military on Russian soil. I will say this, Georgia was playing a deadly game against Russia with it's sheltering of Chechnian rebel groups. They gave Russia a good excuse to bloody Georgia's nose.

There's never a clear good guy and bad guy in war you know. Just different interests and idealogies that need protecting.

I mean in regards to the size of the armys on both sides and not the way they started the fight.

The people (on every side) are the good guys, the politicians (on every side) are the bad guys, as usual.

To supply you with a more specific reply rather than cryptic riddles.
Russia claims it's merely defending South Ossetia, and that Georgia has started the attack.

Georgia claims that Russia is the evil guy that started attacking.

However there are many reports and eyewitnesses that have witnessed Georgian forces killing civilians and destroying hospitals, and that Georgia started shelling the South Ossetia capital, breaking the cease-fire they announced just a short while ago.

Based on that one could assume that "Russia = Good" and "Georgia = Bad".

It seems that Russia is setting up an example for other Soviet Republics(read Ukraine and others) to see what will happen to them if they-

Follow USA, train with them, join their coalition, hosts their missile defense shield

Have ambitions to join EU and NATO

And not be under the spear of influence of Moscow.

As far as I know Syria uses the old version of S300, which is not only short'er' ranged but less sophisticated as well. This may explained why Israel succeeded. But I may be wrong.
