Wow, that is a bit close for comfort. Whoever made the prediction - move over Naustradamus.

All previous world wars started with regional conflicts.

Does this sound far- fetched to anyone ?

The Georgians could be completely doomed.

They may have been talked into action ( S. Hussien, 1980 ) by the West.

The Russians might completely devastate Georgia until permanent

insurgency ( a Western speciality ) takes hold.

Will anyone intervene ?

Has anybody else noticed the gigantic fleet in, or headed to... the Persian Gulf ?

A huge , bigger than Georgia story is now ( apparently ) and finally going

to play out between ISRAEL/ US and Iran.

Will the plight of Georgia become a sideshow on page 14 ?

what..

you're looking at it like a brainwashed ice cream lickin' spectator .
you understand that US forces were already in there last june-july? training Georgian forces?
you hear all the news reports exemplifying the status of Georgia as a US ally?

watch it unfold via script "home boy"..

it's GOIN DOWN!... the cold war is now HOT.
and guess what.. the spectator public is gonna sit back and watch just like when we invaded Iraq.

have you seen the stock market?
russias' plunging.. us stock.. dow.. uppppppp (buy eurossss/swiss /gold shh)

permanent war economy buddy.

...dauuu.....

"haaaay... whaddaya think will happen haaay haay hay i think may-beee that georgia is in troublee hay why would they "decide" to do that haaay daauuu"

freaking mindless bafoon.

STAND BACK...and watch the big boys do their thing.. kid.

Russia's plowin' their ROOK through Georgia towards IRAN, and high-fivin' D.C all the way through.. dollar signs.. (nay.. euro signs). splashin' through the ether as the gargantuan palms collide in communion....

but no.. we have to deal with...

"dauuuuuu... can i have sum bread wiff my circus hay dis juss like foot ball haaaaayy.. dauuurrrr... wat happen haaayy??? wat day gonna doo nexxt ?"

Reality check:

I personally don't think this is going to be WWIII.

Parts of Georgia have been contentious ever since the Union broke apart. IE, it's been going on for a while.

The UN will drop a resolution here and there, and this will all be cleaned up before next week. Everyone will be handing out roses and chanting at the Olympics.

Unless Georgia joins NATO between now and then. But I doubt it...

The US telling Russia to respect Georgia's sovereignty (man, that word has been ran into the ground today) is interesting.

Did the US tell Israel to respect Lebanon's sovereignty after bombing the absolute #e out of civilian infrastructure? No. It was to fight terrorism.

Did the US tell itself to respect Iraq's sovereignty? No. It was... a multitude of reasons based on something that was a lie.

There's no doubt that this could lead to something wider. But I don't think WWIII is even possible - nukes. No long and drawn out world war with allies, iron curtains and so forth, just an especially long winter.

But I still think this can't escalate into that scale. Some people are salivating over prophecies and other such things, but let's just deal with the facts as they come to hand.

Apparently 5 Russian planes have now been shot down.

Story

Anyone know what kind of air defenses Georgia has? Something tells me that Georgia has to be receiving some kind of help (possibly U.S.) in order to shoot down that many planes.

Wow conspiracy theories abound around this conflict, yet so few really know its background. There is no conspiracy or agreement about this between Russia and U.S. This is just a goddamn bloody war in the region that has seen unrelenting fighting for countless centuries.

The conflict did not start on 8-08-08. It started earlier in July, and has been escalating since then. It is an isolated conflict, just like every other conflict in the Caucasus. North breakaway republics of Georgia have been in an undclared state of war since the early 90's.

But have fun digging up links to Iran. If we are all lucky this will lead to WW3 - which will put all the WW3 predictions and conspiracies to rest.

only think i've found about nostradomus is (and not saying you are)..
is qt 10:74-
""The year of the great seventh number accomplished, it will appear at the time of the games of slaughter, not far from the age of the great millennium, when the dead will come out of their graves."

so like.. after 2007.. is 08' .. games ..(Olympics..)..etc.. .. but.. uh.. "games of SLAUGHTER?.."

i'm not one for exacting specifics with Nostradomus.. but .. eh..

let me tell you one thing.. I feel SORRY for those people in the Free State Movement.. all moving into New Hampshire en masse for uber-hick-libertarianism...
I can see a virtual mirror of what's happening in Georgia happen to New Hampshire.. and just STOMP down a massive amount of gun-pumping libertarians in one fell swath...

.... glad I didn't go that route...

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is. Luckily the local civilians have evacuated Gori and the surrounding areas.

Gori is being attacked from the air. A reporter on the scene is talking on Sky News now. He doesn't know what has been hit, but two targets have been destroyed. The soldiers are in hotels and other civilian buildings - I assume he means the Georgian soldiers.

There is no report yet that the American personnel are dead or injured that were in the base that was hit.
Also Georgia is an ally of U.S,it was already act of war to U.S

They have to Monday to decide to let Georgia into NATO though. But this war already gonna get people dragged into. Its Not a question "if" but "when"

Quick update from Sky: Every single Georgian troop stationed in Iraq will now be redeployed in Georgia (it was originally believed only half of that contingent would return).

Poti might have been hit, but what the Russians were targeting isn't known yet. Perhaps it is nothing more than Georgian Black Sea military assets. Alternatively it could be a stike against Georgian economic infrastructure, in order to force Saakashvilli's regime to crumble.

No worries though. Americans are well safe. Thats all thats important right?
