Georgia's propaganda machine is in full swing. So far nearly none of their news is confirmed by outside sources. Saakashvilli might be lying his ass off - he hasn't got much time left.

No news from the Georgians, South Ossetians or Russians can be comfirmed. So, as far as I'm concerned, I won't take any bit of news at face value, no matter where it comes from. I doubt the seperatists would ever say anything good anyway; we MUST wait and see what happens.

The Russians are now putting some blame on "those who sold arms to Georgia"

Sky has reported the 1400+ figures given by the South Ossetians since they were reported. The BBC hasn't covered it nearly as much, so what else are we supposed to watch?

That figure has changed to 1600 now, some guy just said "So what we're possibly seeing now is war against the WEST and Russia". Wait what!? The West? Why the hell should we get involved? WOULD we get involved and for what reasons?

Try this. Read it with a grain of salt, as this is South Ossetia's government's news agency. But it has the most up-to-date events, and so far much of what they said has been echoed in the major media outlets within several hours.

South Ossetia's View

However the english version has far fewer articles and reports than the Russian version. Most of the news I get is from the Russian version of this and other news agencies.

Do you live in Russia Vitchilo?

It sounds like have some bitterness there.

No, but I support the auto-determination of every people as it is the international law. Everytime another country invade another, it against this right.

Also, with the history of that region, South Ossetians have the right to be protected from genocide by Georgia and have their own country as it was voted 2 times in a referendum at over 90%.

That guy is a shame, he augmented the military budget from 30 millions to 1 billion in a year. Instead, he could have taken that money to modernize the country, help the social programs, building relations with South Ossetia and Russia... but no, he chose war.

According to breaking news from Sky TV, Russia has confirmed at least 1,800 now dead in S. Ossetia, along with worsening violence and 30,000 refugees fleeing south into Russia.

Unfortunately, this is getting considerably worse - not better.

- Oh and yet more breaking from Sky: Russia's FM has said 'those who helped arm Georgia are at fault for this.' We know what he's getting at there.

This is now basically a proxy war between the U.S. and Russia, according to Sky's expert on the ground in Georgia.

- Yet more breaking from Sky: The Russians have said that any contingent put on the ground in Georgia in an attempt to aid the country against Russia will 'not be safe.' These are 'very strong words' according to Sky's man in Georgia, and there can be no doubt that Russia and Georgia are now at war with each other.

Up from 1200 yesterday... So 2.5% of the population of South Ossetia have been killed... and it's not finish.

Thanks for the updates. I hope Russia go get that bastard who now that he's losing, is crying for his mommy aka the US.

Russian and South Ossetians sources confirm this. It is likely VDV clearing the area so that the main Russian columns can move into the city. The civilians there are in desperate need of help, and many wounded are dieing since the main hospital has been leveled by Georgia. Russia has to act quickly to help them.

AFP: Russian forces claim to have completely liberated South Ossetia of all Georgian forces. So hopefully now the Red Cross and other aid agencies can get in there and know what they're dealing with.

I seriously doubt this. I think they mean that they have secured Tskhinvali, but surely not the entire South Ossetia. Unless of course Georgia has finally decided to completely retreat.

Either way this is one of the fastest unfolding conflicts ever - all this less than 48 hours since the shelling of Tskhinvali has started, and about 30 hours since Russian troops entered South Ossetia.

The Russians are now also claiming that the Ukraine has actively 'encouraged' Georgia to carry out ethnic cleansing in the area.

I'm going to root around for some good links.

Well, that sums up my view too. If you're going to use your warplanes to bomb another country, no sooking if they get shot down!

Sky News - (REUTERS): Georgian forces shoot down Russian jet and capture pilot.

No links thus far, it's only just broke via the TV news.

Hectic.
