How magnanimous of you! As one myself, I can assure you that most Christians were in fact "incensed", however you must have been looking at the wrong stuff all this time if you have the impression that it's the Christians who are destroying "everything in sight".

In case you aren't familiar with any of them, most true Christians WERE offended and sickened - but we (in my circles) just decided to boycott the Olympics, shared the blatant mockery of God along with some Bible verses on our social media accounts, and now are trying to leave the rest up to God who will, seemingly soon, serve judgment upon all those who mocked Him.

I'm not an really a religious person but i respect people's faith for the most part and this whole drag queen fashion show and mocking the last supper has turned me away from the Olympics honestly. I was kinda excited to watch the Olympics but I've lost all interest right now. Maybe it'll come back in a few days and I'll watch but maybe I'll skip watching Olympics entirety this year.

Certainly agree with all that part and they even saw it as a right of passage/coming of age ceremony for 12 -15 yr old boys to have sex with old men (pederasty not paedolphillia which was punishable by death).

Drag, pantomime, dames, over the top campness etc...has been normal entertainment in Europe for a few 100 years and doesn't have the taboo or sexual connotations it has in the US or Muslim world; it's been seen as typical crazy French art.

The director should have been aware how it would be misinterpreted as attacking Christianity by those not familiar with French (the name was a bad pun that has been mistranslated as super in the US) and been aware nudity is seen as sexual in a lot of cultures.

My biggest gripe with the Olympics is them letting the Dutch athlete who raped a 12 year old child when he was 19 perform.

Considering it's the Olympics, it's likely based off of a painting titled Feast of the gods. Makes sense since the Olympics started in Greece. The painting is also housed in France, unlike the Last Supper painting housed in Italy. This painting even features a child, which the opening ceremony did as well.



Dionysius is in blue, just as he was portrayed in the ceremony. The god in the center wears a crown again a similar reference.

I know what I saw with my own eyes - it was of course the Last Supper. Same poses and everything.
And no matter what picture, none had trans people in it.

That breaded guy twerking and crawling on the ground had NOTHING to do with French History.
They only thing that represented was trans stripper culture - pure current day porn.

There is a world-wide debate about trans and trans-children. And the director makes a large portion of the opening ceremony. He was a gay guy who took an opportunity to promote a political issue - it was not about French culture but rather a self centered director who wanted to make HIMSELF feel good at the expense of others.

And even if there was the tiny chance the Director didn't intend it to by the Last Supper - it was his job to understand the impact on different cultures and how they would interpret it. While nothing is totally neutral, in general you should pick a director who knows enough about the world that they avoid situations like this one.

Has anyone in here suggested that they not be allowed to do that? It seems like most are complaining that this isn't the avenue for it. Stuff like this happens all the time at stage shows, drag show, etc, and no one really cares. I think the timing is what people are mad about. Like when that cult goes to soldiers' funerals to protest.

The opening ceremony was distasteful and ridiculous and possibly meant to insult its targeted audience (and seems to have been successful in doing so). It was also far from an homage to the best side of the culture which initiated the games, even if one believes this was an innocent tribute to Dionysus, he was still the God of wine and debauchery and not one of the gods most associated with the Olympic games, let alone with values we ought to honor in conjunction with discipline, hard work and physical excellence. It also put children next to perverted, oversexualized people in an obvious jab at people who are fine with the notion of grown men in dresses dancing provocatively as long as they leave kids alone.

Couple that with this animation of our statue of liberty, her crown tattered and her cheek marred with a bullet hole and a balloon flying by (was this related to the Chinese spy balloon?) (see link below) that was included in the Olympic graphics, the fact that two men are boxing against women and the press is forbidden to use words such as biological male, and finally and most importantly, that there is a CHILD RAPIST participating with the support of the Netherlands and the permission of the Olympic committee, a greater problem begins to emerge than offending Christian sensibilities.
