Anyhoo its military deployments that show Russia's real intensions as opposed to there piss poor tactics.

During WW II Japanese fielded a massive torpedo, the Long Lance , cruise missile of its day, 24 inches with a warhead of 500 kg with twice the range of other torpedo

It was a double edged sword in that was fueled with volatile mix of oxygen and kerosene

Japanese cruisers carried 8 in tubes with additional reloads Several ships (FURUTAKA, MIKUMA, CHOKAI) were lost to hits in the torpedo mount which touched off raging fires , in turn detonated the warhead

Slava class carried 16 large cruise missiles along with 64 S300 SA10 Surface missiles - a combustible mix as the SSN 12 missile are liquid fueled with a turbojet engine

A hit here will start a raging fire in the missile fuel leading to the loss of the ship

By the looks of things Moskva is the first Cruiser sunk in anger since the Argentine General Belgrano back in 82.

Whatever it was its potato now.

Hopefully they managed to evacuate most of the 500 personnel, im seeing mixed reports saying they did manage to get them off and on to other boats , and others suggesting only 54 people made it off the missile cruiser.

This ship was quietly upgraded to s400, and hosted the s500 test platform in Syria as well.

Destroyed by a 20k missile made in Ukraine.

It was russia's absolute best and most valuable ship, and leaves russia's 'fleet' almost unusable as a fleet until they can replace it.

The exposed launchers for the SSN-12 missiles with their liquid fueled propulsion probably fueled the fires which lead to the explosive warheads cooking off

Most likely have to wait for more information on the sinking, Thou is doubtful the Russians will be forthcoming

Agreed.

They likely had lots of fuel storage tanks for both the ship and missiles as well as a large supply of torpedoes, this ship was also a sub hunter.

If Cold War-era Russian ship designers followed their land ship (tanks) counterparts, then the vessel's munitions weren't compartmentalised from the rest of the ship. If that was the design flaw in Moskva, the vessel was doomed in the event of an uncontrolled fire.

Not only weren't the weapons very compartmentalized, some were pretty exposed to external attack.

Russia played a lot of games with the dating of this ship, but I think the keel was first laid in the mid 70s and the ship has had major rework several times since then which usually tends to weaken any original compartmentalization designs even further with each modification.

A day or so ago Russia/Putin warned that if attacks on Russian soil continued they would target command and control centers in Kyiv. If the command is giving those orders or if soldiers in the field are ignoring orders and targeting Russia I can see why.

The warning came after I posted here about the Tochka U landing in a village in Russia. Since then I have read several reports of attacks.

It looks like Russia followed through on its warning. Several missile strikes on Kyiv yesterday.
