* Ukrainian forces continued to conduct an interdiction campaign in Kherson Oblast.

* Russian forces continued to conduct unsuccessful assaults around Bakhmut and Avdiivka.

Moar from ISW today:

Russian authorities reported that Ukrainian children forcibly deported to Russia for adoption have received Russian citizenship and may be separated from their siblings.[51] Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova stated that Russian authorities are working to place 125 “orphan” Ukrainian children from occupied Donetsk Oblast with Russian families but may have to separate siblings from families with over seven children.[52] Lvova-Belova stated that Russian authorities have already granted these children Russian citizenship and are conducting “psychological testing” to determine appropriate placement with Russian families.[53] As ISW has previously reported, the forcible transfer of children from one group to another “with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group” is a violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.[

A Ukrainian civil war, but it seems business as normal in Donetsk the Ukrainians are shelling it like they have been doing for years. The locals tidy up and the normal continues.

Russian or Russian-backed propaganda efforts are pathetic. Anyone who doesn't distinguish between air power and artillery or thinks of artillery bombardments consisting of 10 shells over 30 minutes is full of crap.

Edit: my comment is directed at the source of the commentary.

Lifelong agony results. I've read some of accounts of "Lebensborn" children when they came to understand what their origin had been. Ugly all around.

and all those Ukrainians in the East who bent over backwards getting Russian citizenship and passports suddenly realized Russia doesnt trust them. They are being stopped at the border and are not being allowed entry into Russia.

Sorry for my disappearance and lack of updates. Dealing with personal health issues right now.

This is one indication about the chronic missile deficiency Putin is causing..

Exclusive: Russia moves missiles from St Petersburg to Ukraine

They would not move those missiles if they had them enough still elsewhere.

Thought they do have a lot S-300 in warehouses....but if they move the older out near St Petersburg, why not replace them with newer ?

Because Russia's electronics industry can't make the complex circuits that the missiles need - they've been reliant on foreign imports for years. And once sanctions were introduced the imports all dried up.

Well good for the rest of the World then .

This btw contradict the accusations that NATO is planning to attack Russia, if that would be true, it`s hard to believe they would use so much surface-to-air missiles ,and even removing them near St Petersburg. It would make more sense the keep surface-to-air missiles for the bad day IMO.

This is quite an interesting analysis of why the Russians are starting to fail so badly. Put simply its army is set up and run for short sharp wars, not long grinding ones that draw down on supplies and above all its soldiers. Once again it's the demographics of Russia that's letting it down - it has a rapidly aging population.
Oh and too many officers are literally corrupt imbecilic bullies.

Sounds true what it says .

Russians and Chinese might have common problem in army , okey this is CNN but it writes about new report

Chinese and Russian militaries share a potential weakness, new US report finds

Seoul, South Korea CNN — China’s military leaders share a potential weakness that has undermined their Russian counterparts in Ukraine and could hamper their ability to wage a similar war, according to a new report from the US National Defense University.

The report identifies a lack of cross-training as a possible Achilles’ Heel within the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), but analysts remain wary of underestimating China’s capabilities and warn against comparisons with Russia. The report delved into the backgrounds of more than 300 of the PLA’s top officers across its five services – army, navy, air force, rocket force and strategic support force – in the six years leading up to 2021.

It found that in each service leaders were unlikely to have operational experience in any branch other than the one they began their careers in. In other words, PLA soldiers stay soldiers, sailors stay sailors, airmen stay airmen. Rarely do they venture outside those silos, the report said, noting a sharp contrast to the US military, where cross-training has been a legal requirement since 1986.

Im sure Chinese are better than Russians . Thought they dont have much battle experience either .

It always comes down to training, doesn't it? Apparently Russia has excellent doctrine at the top of its army, (but that the lower ranks just can't carry it out) based substantially on Soviet military experience from WW2. What is China's doctrine based around? How realistic are their war games?

I dont know Chinese doctrine . Maybe someone knows better Chinese military issues . The big question is can their commanders handle whole entirety of what war operation requires, logistic playing along with ground forces etc...

Following the "lets recruit prisoners" campaign of the last few months a mobile recruitment center has appeared in the Russian city of Rostov with a message for patriotic men , “Military service on a contract – the choice of a real man”.

Conscription is politically sensitive so offering $2,700 a month to young patriotic men to sign for money rather than compulsion seems to be Putin's short term fix of choice.

But the recruitment drive shows Moscow needs more men. The officer in charge of the Rostov truck said Russians and foreigners aged from 18 to 60 with at least a high school education would be eligible.

“Patriotically-minded citizens are choosing to sign contracts for three or six months to take part in the special military operation,” Major Sergei Ardashev said, promising training for everyone.

The minimum monthly wage on offer is 160,000 roubles ($2,700), which is almost three times the national average.

One potential recruit was musician Viktor Yakunin, who said he had always been attracted by the idea of military service and was now collecting necessary documents.

Thanks for the updates and I hope you get better soon, we missed you. First you disappeared, then your two favorite youtube channels stopped updating, SpeakTheTruth, and WarInUkraine, it was starting to look like a conspiracy!

I think SpeakTheTruth may be hunting Elk, I'm not sure what's up with WarInUkraine channel.

I feel bad for the people caught in the middle in occupied areas. If they don't cooperate at all with the Russians they may get tortured by Russians, and if they cooperate too much with the Russians, they get branded as traitors by the Ukranians, and I've seen a number of such traitors get killed when their cars exploded, so it's a tough situation to be in. The lucky ones fled to avoid that situation if women or children, and if they are Ukrainian men they should be in the Ukrainian military if within the eligible age range I suppose.

How much training - you know, the 'Do X so that you don't get your head blown off doing Y' - is involved for these recruits? Is Putler literally recruiting Volksturm?
