* - Russian military / Border patrol helicopter violated Estonian airspace for 2 minutes. It turned of its transponder and refused to acknowledge Estonian officials on their radio. Russia is playing with fire.

That kind of thing happened often in the Cold War. But back then, shooting wasn't going on and there was a sort of understood protocol by both sides of how to react to border provocations.

One thing people not familiar with Slavic society may not realize is that Slavs run with their emotions, and the Russians can be huge cowboys at times in their behavior.

That this incident happened indicates their military still hasn't realized their 1980s gear and 1940s approach isn't working. With as much as they've got to deal with in Ukraine, one would expect them to not engage in provocations with NATO forces.

Still Russia is playing with fire imo. Poland already shot down a Russian drone that strayed into Polish airspace. I would not blame any country for shooting down an unauthorized military aircraft that breaches someones airspace. You think Russia would have figured that out when Turkey shot a Russian aircraft down that violated its territory a few years ago.

An interesting watch with a plausible explanation of the Russian KIA. The 2 fake Republics has about 44k men. Putin has been adamant that the citizens of the 2 fake Republics bear the brunt of the war. The "troops" the 2 fake Republics are using are being equipped with bolt action rifles from the 1800 's and that is about it. Ukraine views all enemies in the east as Russian or Russian controlled. Every time "Russian" forces take casualties, Ukraine views them as Russian casualties.

The Russian MoD does not. According to the video the RMoD, while not releasing total numbers, keeps track of Russian kia, Chechen kia, fake republic kia. This is how Russia is getting away with claiming they only lost a few thousand soldiers.

Interesting video. It makes a lot of sense. One thing gets me though....I can't square the high number of russian generals/high ranking officers KIA; unless they are leading the conscripts from the breakaway republics on the battlefield. The number of Russian officers KIA was extraordinarily high for a full invading force; it's even more astonishing if most of the KIA have been conscripts from the breakaway republics.

So, one of Putin's justifications for the invasion has been to protect the 'Russians' in Luhansk and Donetsk.
Putin has also repeatedly stated that he doesn't recognise the country of Ukraine and Ukrainian as a nationality; they are all 'Russians' and part of Russia.
Yet those fighting for Russia - and dying for Russia - are not classed as Russian when it comes to recording casualties?

I worked with statistics for years, they are very easy to manipulate to support whatever message one wishes to project.

I'm sure Xcathdra or F2d5thCavv2 explained it earlier in the invasion when these Russian Generals first started getting killed.

If I remember correctly it has something to do with Junior/Lower and even Middle ranking Russian Officers not having the autonomy and authority to operate as freely as the equivalent ranking US/UK etc Officers.
I imagine that must be restrictive in a combat environment.
As such ranking Generals have to be much more closer to the lines of engagement etc.

I'm sure those far, far more knowledgeable than me will be able to explain much better than I and/or correct any errors.

Hmm. Bet they're still lying about "Russian Russian" casualties, just based on the hammering their airborne and other "elite" forces took in the early phase of the war. Weird that the Chechens get a different classification as they're not independent from Putin's wonderland so far as I know.
