Both UA and Ru are extremely homophobic. I just don't see them raping each other in their down time.

Sorry for taking so long. I was able to use yandex to translate the military prosecutor's report, if anyone wants the full text just ask. It's actually pretty well translated.

www.documentcloud.org...

To your appeal dated 10/28/2020, addressed to the Chief Military Prosecutor of the Russian Federation, on the issue of offenses related to non-statutory relations between military personnel and manifestations of homosexuality in the troops, we inform the following.

For example, it was reported that in the Western Military District there was an organized "club" for the provision of pimping services, with the activities of which several senior officers were associated. The "club" was forced to provide certain kinds of services for the most part to young people called up for military service, but in a couple of cases services were voluntarily offered by women with the rank of junior officers.

It can be stated that today the criminogenic situation in military units is, in principle, under control, and the average level of offenses and criminal manifestations in 0.8-1.3 times lower than in the whole country. At the same time, at the heart of most war crimes, as before, are irregular relationships and physical abuse of officers.

Vague, but I guess this could mean that only 0,5% of conscripts are prostituted, assuming there's 1 to 3 million prostitutes in Russia as a whole, meaning around 1%? But we could look up actual statistics of crimes. Of course the actual number would be higher, these are just the cases that are officially prosecuted.

According to the results of the inspections conducted by the prosecutors, about 23 thousand violations of the law were revealed, 445 illegal legal acts were canceled and amended, and restored violated the rights of almost 51 thousand citizens, damage in the amount of 336.2 million rubles was compensated.

During 2018-2019, presumably.

An effective mechanism of public control in military units (following the example of the work of Public the supervisory commissions entitled to unrestricted access to special institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Penitentiary Service) have not been formed.

According to the results of 2019 The Main Military Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation states that the number of offenses among soldiers related to non-statutory relations increased by 24%, in particular, on the facts of assault - by 32.5%. The number of violent crimes in the troops increased by 11% last year (while the number of complaints about extortion in the troops increased by only 7 percent).

It is noticed that victims of rape are primarily young people called up for military service who are forced by various kinds of violent methods to engage in sexual relations with senior employees. This is often accompanied by prolonged harassment, beatings and threats, which in some cases can last for months. In connection with the transformations in the country's military organization, there has been a tendency to reduce violent crimes. But last year the indicators changed for the worse and we have an increase by 11% for 2019 Hazing, violence in barracks, violent homosexuality and prostitution of military personnel is a very painful and difficult issue. Recently, violence, including sexual crimes, in the army environment sometimes acquire a national coloring (it is recorded that in problematic military units, the leaders of groups are military personnel of Chechen nationality) and there is also something to work on. In all such cases, we respond promptly and harshly.

There's no need for me to speculate on how true this is, that they respond promptly and harshly. I'm content to note that indeed there is a significant problem, even if it may have been reduced since the 90's or since Soviet times.

The main disturbing trends in 2018-2019:

joint porn viewing - growth/increase by 8%

mutual masturbation and oral sex (blowjob, rimming, zd) - by 7%

pimping (commerce, including, massage services") - by 9%

homosexual sexual intercourse without violence (not commerce) - 2%

non-voluntary homosexual sexual intercourse (rape) - by 7%

open bisexuality - by 4%

open transsexualism - 2%

bestiality, sodomy (including latent) - on 11%

With respect,
Deputy Chief Military Prosecutor, Lieutenant General of Justice
C. N. Skrebets

It may seem odd that non-violent homosexual intercourse is so low, but I guess that would be between two people who both prefer to hide it for the most part.

I don't know what "latent sodomy" is, lol?

I may be mistaken, but I think Jan was referring to the situation in Czechoslovakia in 1968.

I pointed out similarities in the style of the invasions -- airfield seizure, entry into capital city, etc.

Jan is correct in that there was no war ongoing in 1968 between Czechoslovakia and the USSR.

Pure speculation on my part is that in 1968, a 16 year old Russian boy named Vladimir Putin was very thrilled with the Soviet operation to seize Prague. My take is that was, in his mind, a great example of how Russia should handle other countries that stepped out of line. Not to mention that the success of the 1968 operation would have been incorporated into Soviet military playbooks and may have served, at least in part, as a blueprint for the February invasion.

19 June update

Key Takeaways

* Concentrated Russian artillery power paired with likely understrength infantry units remains insufficient to enable Russian advances within Severodonetsk.

* Russian forces continued to prepare to advance on Slovyansk from southeast of Izyum and west of Lyman.

* Russian forces are focusing on strengthening defensive positions along the Southern Axis due to recent successful Ukrainian counterattacks along the Kherson-Mykolaiv Oblast border.

* Successful Ukrainian counterattacks in the Zaporizhia area are forcing Russian forces to rush reinforcements to this weakened sector of the front line.

* Russian forces are likely conducting false-flag artillery attacks against Russian-held territory to dissuade Ukrainian sentiment and encourage the mobilization of proxy forces.

Due to low morale and psychological conditions, 800 persons destined for replenishing the losses of this unit, refused to go to the operational area and accused officers of incompetence, bribery, and cronyism in paying money allowance.

◽️About 100 servicemen of a reconnaissance unit of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade have been relieved of combat duty and transported to Kremenchug for investigation.

◽️A considerable part of the commanders of the 30th Mechanised Brigade of the AFU have abstracted themselves from managing their units and refuse to fulfil combat tasks. All kinds of pretexts are used for simulating illness. The majority of units have already been left without any officers.

So in France, Macron's party lost their majority in the parliamentary elections, making him a lame duck president.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, I wonder if this means he'll have less time to call Putin, or if he'll redouble his efforts in an attempt to flee the difficulties of domestic politics.

My concern is the Western countries with elections coming up seeing a change in leadership to the point of abandoning Ukraine. These countries also need to be on the lookout for Russian interference in the elections. Russia really has nothing left to lose by interfering in the elections of other countries, like the Attempt to Assassinate Leader of Montenegro in 2018.

European citizens are not happy with economic/social development in Europe. Fat cats are fatter while plebs have real troubles to heat the house or feed children with decent food. This is not problem derived from Covid or war in Ukraine. Yellow jackets for example. This is principle of capitalism. Scandinavian nations are long time winners of "quality of life" contest. Strict regulations for business and robust welfare for less gifted.

Also for western part of Europe the war is somewhere far away. Folks there do not feel it as theirs trouble. Special is Johnsons UK. In my opinion he is motivated only by his PR team and when those magicians decide, all support to Ukraine will stop.

My understanding is that Macron will cooperate with the center-right party, republicans or whatever it's called, to form a majority. They're likely to support Ukraine, but their fiscally conservative policies will anger Macron's left wing. And Le Pen's far conservative right and Melenchon's far left are both strong enough to make trouble in parliament. Because they have rules for how many seats you need to have to be allowed to launch a vote of no confidence for example.

It's funny, I would have supported Le Pen before this war, but now I don't trust her to have her priorities straight.

Too much of Europe's political right is in Putin's pocket and too much of Europe's political left is in the pocket of the Brussels EU executive.

I too wonder if Marie has her head out of dead center enough to recognize that reining Putin in is no game. Of course, the German Left couldn't court Putin enough either, before the war. I suspect there are a lot of compromised people who are in key positions.

The politics in the EU nations are anything but obvious; a lot of external actors with agendas and big money.
