Stinger don't have the ability to overcome Su-25 SM3 counter measures suite. This ain't your grandpa's basic Su-25 of the 1980s.

Starstreak does.

Yes, Starstreak has the ability to actually chase them down and pretty easily defeat any counter measures (a fantastic tool), but Mr. Stinger is still perfectly capable.

Those defensive capabilities he's so proud of are only 1975(ish) U.S. tech.

Because we haven't changed the name, he thinks Mr. Stinger is still 1960s tech.

For russia, a modern(ish) Stinger is science fiction tech, and they probably don't even believe Starstreak tech actually exists (way too advanced for most russians to even imagine).

Just wait until you find out about the latest Stinger Carpy, gonna blow your mind.

Not exaggerating.

They probably won't ever be provided to Ukraine though, at least as long as the older Stingers and shiney new Starstreaks are dominating the airspace under 10k.

Might make some russian heads explode if they suddenly appear near belgorod though (yes, that was a hint).

Another major step from Vietnam / Afghanistan war of the 70s and 80s is the mass use of thermal imaging which enables people to see at night or find people who hide in buildings.

The use of improvised DJI drone for the ground attack role is not particularly effective but for a low intensity conflict like in Ukraine it is beneficial given the prevalence and lost cost of DJI drones.

Damn. Now that's what I call flying skills. Flying at low altitude means Starstreak cannot target it because Earth is round so it dips below the horizon if it is far from Starstreak.

I suggest you try watching some of the Artur Rehi - Estonain soldier videos used as a source in this thread, then get back to us about that absurd claim.

Hint: He frequently includes footage (and laughs at) Ukrainian 'soldiers' (many times they are civilian teenagers) using these drones to drop purpose built 'grenades' on russian soldiers.

My favorites are when they drop one inside the open driver hatch in a T72, through the sunroofs of cars stolen by russian soldiers, and directly into crowded russian trenches.

heat seekers/image guided missiles rarely lose target if they fly low and are within range and has enough fuel. A s hot as that engine is at full burn for a su-25 a good soldier will burn that arse.

PG. They think there are not ways to spoof a IR camera apparently. Such as thermal blanketing.

You obviously don't understand how Starstreak works, going low isn't gonna help those poor russian pilots.

It does keep them away from Ukraine's secretly upgraded S300s though.

That is correct.

Also, Starstreak isn't a 'missile' that needs to lock onto something before going up and searching for a target.

Not the newer Javelins either (though none of these have been given to Ukraine yet)

StarStreak can even send targeting data to another StarStreak already in the air or on the ground if it spots too many targets for it to destroy itself, or a target it can't reach on remaining 'fuel'.

Game changer.

Starstreak relies on line of sight. If you can't see what's below the horizon at a distance, you can't lock it. That's why fighter jets are still important in modern warfare because they can fly high and use look down shoot down radar mode to detect, track, lock low flying aircraft.

True. Streak has a database it searches through and what is a target in its particular theater if i remember. it IFF interrogates possible targets too right?

Yes.

Javelins too, but somehow Ukrainians figured out how to target things that were in the Javelin's banned target list (consumer cars and military helicopters).

Manufacturer is now aware of the software error that allowed them to do that.

Why do you keep calling russian soldiers 'rebels'?

And why do you keep repeating things that you KNOW aren't true?

M777 has FAR better range, and accuracy that no russian gun can even be compared to.

Pro Tip: A really, REALLY good operator can literally drop a first round bullseye into a 55 gallon drum from over 10 miles without scratching the sides of the drum.

Ukrainian operators aren't quite that good after only 2-3 weeks of training, but they are getting an average first round CEP of 3 (10 feet), which means roughly 90% first round bullseyes on russian armor at 12 miles (20km).

Rebels are former Ukrainian citizens. They are permanent residents of Donbas. When war started Donbas had a population of more than 6 million. Donbas rebels are modern counterparts of American rebels.
