An interesting aspect of the Azovstal capitulation is that it occurs just as the number of "public" voices in Russia who are questioning the official narrative is increasing.

May be a case of too little, too late for Putin.

I agree on the too little too late. However Putin is creating the problem of undermining his denazification excuse by allowing them to be taken prisoner. They are supposed to be traded for Russian pow's however I cant see Putin providing that info to the Russian people.

ETA - I am also more inclined to believe the KIA/WIA stats the Ukrainians gave about Russian losses trying to storm the plant, +/-3k KIA with an additional 5k WIA.

Which has nothing to do with the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. The Ghetto uprising involved the Jews and the Nazi goal of exterminating them.

As for the treatment of prisoners Poland was a signatory to pre Geneva Convention treaties and rules of war. Germany was also a signatory to those same treaties. Russia was not and because of this Nazi Germany opted not to treat Russians as the rules for war were laid out. As an aside it was Russian NKVD that murdered 25k pole's. Soldiers, politicians, educated etc (See the Katyn massacre).

Member of the Polish, as well as allied militaries, who were taken prisoner had Jewish soldiers separated and sent to death camps.

Just like Russia, Germany ignored the rules of war that contradicted German laws and war goals.

Yup and Russians are pissed that was allowed to happen. Idiots in the Russian Duma want to pass a law that would strip azov soldiers of protected status as a prisoner of war. Just like NAZI Germany, Russians are ignoring the Geneva Conventions. Putin already removed (October 17, 2019) Russia from one of the protocols to the Geneva convention - protocol 1, which deals specifically with the protection of civilians in armed conflict.

I get the impression that because Russia withdrew from it, they could kill anyone they wanted.

The problem is a person (or country) who acts outside the law should not be protected by it.

Videos and photos show that the "defenders" of Mariupol were well fed and in good condition. No signs of starvation. Large quantities of ordinance is still below.

They surrendered because of low morale not because they needed to, not because they were out of supplies, and not because they were in danger while in bunkers designed to survive a direct hit from a nuclear bomb.

No one has really ever adequately explained why they were so adamant about going to a third country but they finally got their wish.

Uhm no, not true. Kiev ordered the soldiers to surrender. If that order never came they would fight to the death.

Azov issued a statement on Telegram saying they are “implementing the approved decision of the Supreme Military Command” in order to “save lives”.

And the Russian side has since confirmed that “An agreement has been reached on the removal of the wounded,” according to a Russian defense ministry statement. “A humanitarian corridor has been opened through which wounded Ukrainian servicemen are being taken to a medical facility in Novoazovsk.”

Russian media is also widely reporting the surrender at Azovstal, with RT airing some of the first footage of the evacuation of the last fighters to leave…

They were not fighting to the death before that. They were hiding in a dungeon. What makes you think they would have started fighting again?
The truth is that Kyiv never had a say in what they did. The only thing Kyiv did was spin their surrender when Kyiv was told they were giving up.


There may have been over 2,000 "defenders" down there. We will see as more come out to surrender. 2,000 fighters that were supposed to have fought to the death but had no intention to.

Contrary to your propaganda from Moscow, they were ordered to surrender. It had nothing to do with morale . The statement from the troops said they were ordered to surrender.

There were 300+ who surrender.
