The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are being told that the war with Ukraine has to be over by 9 May 2022. [9 May – Victory Day– is culturally very significant in Russia and is celebrated every year with a military parade, which in recent years has become more and more imposing and grand.]
[...]The General Staff note that despite significant losses and demoralised personnel, the military and political authorities of the Russian Federation are still not rejecting the possibility of continuing to wage the war against Ukraine.
[...]Russian troops are also attempting to restore the combat capabilities of its airborne troops.

Putins mental status reminds me of Hitlers in the last days of WW2(Europe) down in the bunker. When Berlin was surrounded Hitler constantly gave orders to Army groups to counter attack. He could not grasp the problems of no supplies. He seriously thought the 9th army would save Berlin, even though they had no fuel or ammo.
When it finally sank in that the war was lost he blamed the German people / military, calling them traitors and claiming they didn't fight hard enough.

Seriously, did they not take into consideration that they can't physically control Ukraine response to their actions. How delusional they can be.
As a reminder -
As such take everything as a possibility and NOT as absolute truth.
The very first casualty in a war is the truth and all warfare is based on deception
