Russia Ukraine Update Thread

Seems Russia is running out of their landing ships - the 4 in the Black Sea is down to 1.

Japan reported Russian vessels departing from the Russian base in the East. The destination is unknown but if its for use in Ukraine the Russians are going to have issues. Turkey has shut the straights to Russian military traffic with the exception of Russian military vessels whose home base is in the Black Sea. If a vessel is not based in the Black Sea they wont be allowed to transit.

Ukrainians are now claiming the destruction of the Orsk occurred as a result of a strike by their forces.

Putins mental status reminds me of Hitlers in the last days of WW2(Europe) down in the bunker. When Berlin was surrounded Hitler constantly gave orders to Army groups to counter attack. He could not grasp the problems of no supplies. He seriously thought the 9th army would save Berlin, even though they had no fuel or ammo.

When it finally sank in that the war was lost he blamed the German people / military, calling them traitors and claiming they didn't fight hard enough.

By the looks of things Russia are having problems meeting the basic needs of there own troops now.

And there is the piss poor supply line issues where fuel for there tanks and APC is concerned.

Imagine presenting a 40km long, sometimes 3 or 4 trucks/tanks deep, convoy to any sort of nation with a half decent air force.

A squadron of A-10 Thunderbolts with proper air cover or even UK older Tornado bombers from the last century would make mincemeat out of that in no time sharp ffs.

That would be some size of frying pan on fire put it that way.

He (Putin) is in a bubble created by his control-freak authoritarian regime.

There were likely Russian intel and military people who believed invading Ukraine was risky, but they did not dare push their views.

This is where the danger lies. Putin is being crashed back into reality and no one knows how he will respond to such stress.

NATO Secretary General gives an update on NATO - Ukraine plan after the leaders summit. Georgia and Bosnia are also cleared to get weapons from NATO.

Now the rumour has it, the war will end by the 9th of May...or has to end according to Russian gov:

Reports have the Russians facing serious force regeneration problems. They've broadening the age of men that can be conscripted up to age 65, they're robbing their naval infantry to make up losses in the 8th Army's attack against Mariupol, and they're pulling personnel from low-readiness units in the far east to try to make up losses.

As for quickly replacing paratroopers. It only takes a couple of weeks to train men to jump out of aircraft with combat equipment. But forging those men into a cohesive formation that can undertake airborne and airmobile strikes is a MUCH longer process.

A big problem for the Russians IMO has been that the Ukrainian reserves have proven to be motivated combatants. Russia invaded with some 180,000 (or so) troops, but those are confronted by a total Ukrainian force of some 300,000. Not good odds unless the other side is expected to fold quickly (which, of course, didn't happen). This is why the Russians are pushing countries like Syria and the Central African Republic to provide troops. They want those guys to secure their army's rear area in Ukraine because at this moment the security requirements are keeping a lot of Russian troops from manning the front line.

How delusional are they? They thought Ukraine would fall quickly, giving a time frame of 3-5 days. This would explain why Russian forces were running out of supplies/ammo/equipment.

Russia made the same mistake in Ukraine that the Nazis made when they invaded the USSR - "give it a swift kick and the whole rotten mess will collapse". Because of that shortsightedness / arrogance Nazi forces did not have proper clothing when winter set in or proper supplies for the army groups involved.

Apparently Ukraine currently has 150k troops in training (not deployed yet). The longer Russia remains in Ukraine using a siege mentality the more Ukraine will be able to bring units online. The tanks that Ukraine has lost apparently is offset by the number of Russian tanks captured / abandoned by their crews. Ukraine now has more tanks than what they started with.

Pretty much but Ukraine sure is not Putin's female dog by any manner nor means nor lightly to be anytime soon.

All this whole palaver has served to achieve is to illustrate just how weak the Russian military animal has become.
