a reply to: Gorman91While there are some isolated quotes by some of the Founding Fathers, the vast majority did not share your opinion. For a better understanding from the original papers of the Founding Fathers, please go to wallbuilders.com. Yes, we were definitely founded as a Christian nation. Sorry.

Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen (Muslims); and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan (Mohammedan) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries. John Adams treaty of Tripoli.

The whole history of these books [the Gospels] is so defective and doubtful that it seems vain to attempt minute enquiry into it: and such tricks have been played with their text, and with the texts of other books relating to them, that we have a right, from that cause, to entertain much doubt what parts of them are genuine. In the New Testament there is internal evidence that parts of it have proceeded from an extraordinary man; and that other parts are of the fabric of very inferior minds. It is as easy to separate those parts, as to pick out diamonds from dunghills.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, January 24, 1814

There are hundreds more examples.

Good video.
We in the UK are sick of being bombarded with the U.S. state religion.
It is not the CHRISTIANITY that Christ or even Paul taught.
It is a worship of Mamon and the Anti Christ.
Donald Trump is an Anti Christ, not a Chistisn.
Camels and needles, anyone!??

How come the house of representatives looks exactly like a church.

Why do we call them congress.

Why are the law enforcers named after Judas?

Why are the law makers called sin it?

Why do we drive on a park way and park in a drive way?

There is a valid reason those names were chosen to represent the actions and places they describe. By referring to the root of the words and using those definitions to form an opinion then you can know the answer to your question. The same goes with my post and the answer is it aligns with the gov. being founded on Christianity.

Yeah and there is valid reason we park in a driveway.

You are grasping at straws, my friend. Words change, language evolves. Not everything means the same as the exact root.

Plus:

Senate has NOTHING to do with sin.

Middle English

senat < Latin senātus council of elders,

equivalent to sen (old) + -ātus -ate

Nice try.

Because things often times look like whatever you want them to look like. Especially for the devout religious types.

Why do we call them congress.

According to the dictionary it comes from the root words meaning "come together".

Why are the law enforcers named after Judas?

If you mean "Judges" it's not. Not that I found anyway.

Why are the law makers called sin it?

Not even going to play along with that one. Only Mr. Fantastic can make that stretch happen.

From what I found judge means separate.

Ancient Greek. To separate seed from shaft.

do you guys know if any where in the volumes of this thread someone mentioned the early timers founding the new country ( the Isle of the Sea in the bible you know....the U. S. ) outlawed Catholic in any form for the past 150 years and it really just got accepted due to the gradual passing of so many decades...
so there was strong main objective....with protestant good bible facts......that by definition must have had their attention....

The founded our gov. based on what?

My answer would be that it was founded on things they knew.

They knew church, common law and maritime law.

I'd ask - - - what does Christian values mean?

Look at Christians today.

I'd hardly define our Right Wing Corporate "Christians" as having Christian values.

You certainly wouldn't call the recent beating of teens by an officially recognized Christian church as having Christian values.

---------------------------------------------------

In a time where it was pretty much required you align yourself with a God/religion or be ostracized (not much different today in some areas) - - - there were a lot of "Christians in name only".

Our forefathers were very intelligent and well read men (books, no internet). They also discussed a lot of stuff via correspondence (letters) - - hence pretty easy to nit pick selections of their writings.

They read, they read the great philosophers, they discussed, etc etc.

I'd say their wisdom was influenced by everything they new and experienced.

The label Christian because "society of the time" requires it - - - - doesn't mean much to me.

Values of humanity and wisdom does not require any additional label of convenience.

They also knew how religion corrupted governments over the millennia and introduced separation of church and state for this reason.

Just what did separation of church and state mean to them.

It did not mean that they wanted to remove all religion from gov.

It meant that everyone could be a part of the gov.

Not to exclude anything or anyone by that phrase but to include everyone and that is the basis of we the people.

It has been twisted to mean that nothing related to religion could be a part of the gov.

They were smart enough to know that would end in tyrannical gov. and that no religious person could be in gov.

Even if many do not see the danger in the statement it is that the phrase comes with no boundaries when interpreted falsely. Meaning that a gov. that is totally and completely removed from religion would include all aspects like hearts and minds.

seeing that the majority of those holding office are professing christians, and they all seem to have no problem towing that line between the church and state with no problem, nor have they've had any problems in the past.
maybe you would prefer the two be entwined? you seem to want your religion having a driving force in gov't...
but, well, you should realize, that as the church corrupts the gov't the gov't also corrupts the church!!! in the end, we lose our democratic republic as well as our freedom of religion.

but, of course, you can't see that forest beyond the few trees--women's reproductive rights, homosexual marriage, ect.

You live in a fantasy world.

You expect me to be ok with such actions as the removal of all religious elements from gov. simply because it has not happened yet on a federal level.
