After watching the 'news' channels here in the UK I must say despite my reluctance to celebrate anyone's death I am beginning to wonder.

The veneration and almost deification that is being offered her is quite frankly disgusting and something I'd only expected to happen in authoritarian states.

Yes, she was a strong leader and she raised the UK's profile on the world stage - so did Blair, doesn't that say something in itself.

But there are so many fallacies and false myths being peddled about her 'iron will' and support of the Armed Services.

Nothing much about the UK makes me feel proud tonight.

It would be nice if the radical right wingers would do the same when leaders they don't agree with pass away. But they don't.

And I never said anything disrespectful. Just told the truth.

if you class me as a "radical right winger"- then I don't have street parties when leaders pass away, so hopefully you have learned something tonight

It is not just you it is many people who want to celebrate and it makes me feel sick actually it shows a level of hatefulness that is all too prevalent in Britain today.

She was democratically elected to office 3 times.
Yes 3 times !!!
May she rest in peace.

I am interested in people being respectful of a former Prime Minister of Great Britain - plain and simple.

It is called respect. Nothing to do with politics.

And to hell with reality? As a nation we have an opportunity to debate where the iron will of the iron woman has taken us - a full and frank debate - warts and all.

Reactions like yours 'respect your betters no matter what' they did' don't help debate - they shut it down.

very much so, and whilst I have spent much of this thread responding to people who like parties because someone has died- I hate false invented grief, ala Diana, and you are right, it is more akin to various authoritarian states of left and right wing variety

I won't argue with her that she defined an era. She probably helped shape a few generations, too. I hope that some of the victims from these generations come forward with indisputable evidence and her grave is demolished the same way Jimmy SoVILE's was.
Funny the way humans give more respect to the dead than they do the living. This is a very backarsewards way of thinking if you ask me.

We all die some day... No one lives forever. Some may see you in poor terms too... I'd hope they wouldn't choose the day you pass away ...or the day I pass away for that matter, as the day to focus on that. Perhaps it's just as well I didn't read the thread and simply posted what I did.... In fact.. I'll just leave the thread at that.

I'm glad someone made it so we could give our respects.

Apparently there's a pub in Glasgow now giving away free beer - nuff said.

I predict that on the day of her funeral there will be protest 'parties' all across this country. Not idiots - but people backlashing against the media drivel currently being shoved down our throats.

Before I go, I'd like to have us bow our heads in respect for Thatcher's best bud, Jimmy Savile.
He visited so many hospitals in the dead of night, which showed his determination to assist these poor youths.
He's dead now, so let's all show him respect.
I'm sure he was there to greet Thatcher on the other side to celebrate just like they have for the past 11 New Year's Eves.
May they clink their glasses and cheer in unison, "I can't believe we got to the other side with our heads still attached to our bodies!"

Shameful, disrespectful and nasty response, I cannot believe or understand this attitude.
Demonising a person who happened to be a great leader - love or hate her politics is just quite unbelievable.

I did not know people were so mean on the inside.

That goes for all the people who have responded with cheer and celebration to the news of the death of our greatest peace time Prime Minister EVER !

I carry much shame, that I cannot deny, Respect? what of respect? you earn respect by giving respect. Do not try to understand my attitude, it will take you to places where you would rather not be. She demonised herself without any help from me. Unbelievable to a few perhaps but not to many.

I am by no means a mean person, i am a working man trying to survive in a mean world that corrupt and sleazy politicians have created, i have no self pity but my despise for them runs deep. My eyes were opened from a very early age, so please, read through this thread properly and understand that you are in a very small minority.

PEACE,
RK

Do you really want to go down this path? I didn't say anything about authoritarian.

see the Westboro Baptist Church, see they way they protest at funerals, right

EVERY single WAN (and I use Ulster Scots) of those people doing that are basically the same as them, nailed on, that is them, they are their transatlantic cousins

She gets the same respect from me that she had for the hard working industrial communities she devastated. Ironically, the colliery I used to work at, Maltby, the last colliery in what used to be called the South Yorkshire Area which comprised tens of pits, was on the news on Saturday with a march to mark its closure. Maybe she saw that and figured her work was complete.

I'm not perfect and if I died today, I'm pretty sure that people will have more good to say about me than bad.
Plus, I'M NOT A CREEPY, SLIMY PAEDO!!!!! So don't you dare compare me to these vile creatures.

I've known some mean people who have died, but we're not just talking about a mean person here. We're talking about a psycho sicko. BIG DIFFERENCE!

And the wow must go to you. She didn't need to pay any of it, any other racer in that event wouldn't. She wasn't responsible for what her children did but still put her hand into her own pocket. It's amazing how blind some people are.

Are you seriously suggesting that the parent of any other "racer" would have been able to order the RAF to look for their directionally challenged off spring?

Was there a direct line?

Or did one simply dial 999?

nae worry, ah'll tone doon thee Ulster Scots

If you have an anti Thatcher party on the day of Thatcher's funeral, then you are basically the British equivalent of the Westboro Baptist Church freaks- they drink from the same wellspring

I am not judging you but your attitude and those of the others for reasons I have stated.
Britain has become a very mean spirited and brittle place - this thread has just confirmed that for me.
