Fine it has been established that she should not have been there while carrying a child.

However she was there and it was her choice and her right to attend.

She did try to leave when things got ugly, and she probably planned to do this in order to have her say and protect her child if things got ugly.

What I cannot excuse is the fact that she loudly proclaimed she was preagnant to the police officers and the crowed and the officers chose to kill her child. I see a pre-meditated act of murder by the police here and a statment by the US government that people will be made examples of.

That is exactly what happened to this woman..!! The police deliberately killed her baby and will not even be reprimanded over it. They were probably ordered to take advantage of people like her to enable stronger measures to be put in place to halt the protests all together.

In other words, they will use this "unfortunate", incident to physically force an end to the protests, to prevent anything else like it happening.

Great OP!

I do have to say that it really saddened me to see so many "blame the victim" posts though after the initial OP.

FFS...she is an American citizen...she was doing something that she strongly believed in, and if history is our guide, using the best and only effective method of bringing about change - peaceful protesting and she gets assaulted and Pepper Sprayed for doing so - and people think it's HER fault?!?

I stumbled across these powerful short videos showing commercials that were aired on MTV not that long ago. Actually made me sorry I stopped watching MTV years ago. I think the time for them is now. See below:

A pregnant woman shouldn't have to worry about violence at a "peaceful assembly". This is all on the Cops. She yelled that she was pregnant. Dumbass Police. Makes me want to scream 187 on these poo nine.

What I am about to say isn't spreading hate.

She is terribly irresponsible and reckless for going to this protest knowing things could get out of hand.

What was she thinking?

PREGNANT WOMEN ARE FRAGILE.

Pregnancy is so fragile that most people wait until they pass the 3 month mark to announce the pregnancy to friends and family. So many pregnancies are spontaneously aborted by the body in the first 3 months.

she ought to be arrested and charged with manslaughter for willingly endangering her unborn child. she knew it was dangerous to be there in the first place....she says it was pepper spray for all anyone really knows it could have been any thing caused it, except if she wasn't there her baby would be alive....but she wouldn't be famous would she...sounds like a put up job to me

The police will take the stance that she should not have been there so they are not responsible for this heinous out come. So many on this thread keep repeating the same excuse. We have death, severe injuries and many more which are contrabuted to the fource of the police. If a censore was taken we would find some shocking results of abuse but this will not come about untill OWS if done and dusted so not to drum up more suport and sympathy for the movement.

Right, so now women can't go to public places when pregnant in case a cop hurts them to the point of miscarriage?

You're blaming the victim mate. What if one of these days it is you? Can't you see what's happening?

Anyone who has watched some of the news coverage of OWS would realistically be concerned about violence if they attend an OWS protest. It's not like these all of these protests have been peaceful. Do you remember the military guy who couldn't speak and lost consciousness for a while after being shot in the face? How about the people linked and sitting who were shot point blank range in the face with pepper spray? I wouldn't wear contact lenses to a protest, that's for sure. If I had asthma, I'd stay away too. The pepper spray can be fatal for asthmatics, depending upon severity. It can take several days to recover. I wouldn't bring a 3 year old, nor a 7 year old or even a 13 year old to a protest. You have to exercise some common sense.

It's terrible that the police did that. I know police are violent. I'd think she would too. It would be great if she gets some money for her suffering. They can't bring the fetus back to life. Police will continue to be violent and will be getting more violent in the future despite any hand slaps. That's the plan. This incident will reinforce the fear among the people. It's psychological warfare.

Those damn cops need to take their badges off and join the rest of the people. This is getting ugly and eventually it will be full on riots and could lead to martial law. And it won't be because of the people, but it'll be because of the puppet obedient police.

You're an Officer, a person shouts I'm pregnant while you're trying to carry out your orders to clear an area in a potentially volatile situation, what do you do? Let her go? Ok, she sits back down, the next person you try and remove "I can't move I've done my back in" let him go? Ok, the next person "I've got pains in my chest" let him go? Ok, before you know it you've asked everyone to move, they haven't and so you haven't removed anyone, you've gone back to the station and the now you're in line to get an absolute trashing from your superior and probably a warning for not carrying out a duty. The next day you're off again, same thing, go back, another warning. You keep doing this then bang, you're out of a job, you've lost your house and your wife and kids have left you and this is how it works and I have seen first hand how it works. You have to understand the the Police workers like the rest of us and I cannot stress how important it is for this movement to based primarily towards a rise of the working people, whether in America, Europe, Asia or Africa.

Back to this, you can't just say I'm pregnant to a copper who has told you to move from the area and expect him to say yeah ok that's fine, how's he supposed to know? Is he supposed to leave the scene with the woman take her to hospital and get a scan done? The bottomline is she should not have been there, you could say that officers shouldn't be so heavy handed but they have been more than likely told to clear the area quickly with likelyhood of massive resistence and the tactics employed would've been based around info that they had prior to the briefing and being deployed at the scene. I know it's hard to imagine but what happens if the Police just walk away? What happens if they don't carry out those orders? You either move or you don't. If you don't, then what? What message does that send across America? The Police have revolted or more to the point, the Police have lost authority and control. What do you think happens then?
I'm not condoning excessive use of force, but you really all need to see through the eyes of the Police and through both sides. Not only does help explain situations and events, it can also help you to prepare for what you will more than likely encounter.

The problem is that the police (and military) are brainwashed to believe they are better than the people, which makes them separate from the people.

I think of the police (and military) like trained dogs who carry out their dogma (and might even wear dog tags). We are the sheep. It's a persistent delusion. The police are not sworn to protect the people. They obey orders and protect those who give them orders.

How can you possibly defend or apologise for the actions of police who are sworn to serve and protect citizens and instead do the exact opposite? Disgusting.

Not only are they saying it, trust me, they Think it. There are lots of kinds of cowards.
Some people are so hopelessly dependent on the system... and all that.

There are other ways to create change. We could turn our backs on the system and recreate it without the overlords.
