You are comparing a factual case (Cain's) containing evidence and proof of payouts with a rumor mill (Obama) with NO facts or evidence... And no, Obama didn't get a pass. He is still dogged about the same rumors that colored his campaign.

These accusers are being strongly protected even though no one has filed a lawsuit or criminal complaint.

The accusers SHOULD be protected!

It is not hearsay that at least two women received settlements as a direct result of their accusations against Cain. Companies don't give people 5 figures because they make a complaint or charge. There is more to this than we know. There is PROOF that these payouts were made.

They do have something tangible. Give it time. This is politics. People dig up the pasts of politicians. And sometimes they don't have to dig very hard. Every candidate for president should be scrutinized thoroughly. Clinton survived. Obama made it. We'll see if the same holds true for Cain.

Sexual harassment is not a legal charge. It's a category of behavior. Some sexual harassment is illegal. Sexual assault in the workplace IS a form of sexual harassment. Read up on it. It's really interesting.

No. If I found out that my abuser or rapist had a chance to become president, I'd say something, too. I never reported any case of harassment or rape to the cops, but I would do whatever it took to prevent them from becoming a leader in this country.

Cain has had 5 women come forward now. Two of them had been paid settlements from his association, and made to sign non-disclosure agreements. Witnesses have also come forward;

Cain has no one but himself to blame for these troubles.

Cain's scandal didn't cost him much in GOP support.

It cost him independant support.

I have to say, the idea that his favorability rating dropped amongst GOP supporters, but they would still vote for him is a strange psychological/idealogical insight. The party that shouts "values matter!!" believes just the opposite? Kind of makes sense in a twisted way, but it certainly discredits a large swath of thier rhetoric.

Folks could retort that what we are seeing is disbelief of the accusations, but the oddity of the polls is the same people who view him less favorably by a significant margin, would still vote for him. Is there is a segment of the GOP who simply believe the "Values" rhetoric is just a useful tool?

All that guess work aside. Cain is a recipe for GOP failure. I am starting to think if thier was an absolutely brilliant Dem strategist that could have predicted that Cain would weather the scandal well enough to still be a contender, but with enough damage to alienate the independants then this would have been a brilliant Dem ploy.

Because as it stands at worst he will linger long enough to hound Romney and best he will win the primary but be unable to win a general election without independant leaning GOP.

Cain has lost independants and most women voters. That hasn't been reflected in the polls of GOP loyalists yet.

Cain surviving the scandal is a win/win for the Dems. It would have been a loss for the Dems if this scandal knocked him out of the race, because then you just have Romeny and a full year for him to focus on Obama, while Obama is forced to focus on the nation.
