I think you got me confused with someone else broham. I didn't start this thread nor did I participate till a couple minutes ago. I am not yelling about anything or trying to equate this to an entire group of people. I am just astonished that so many people are OK with theft. Thats all.

Tricky tricky.

Don't be confused into thinking this was solely about theft.

This is about some guy trying to label a group of people over the actions of a few. (In this case a couple people in Canada.)

Deny ignorance!

I think maybe you are reading into this a little much. I understand ya'll are pissed that the OP is trying to discredit the whole movement due to his experience. I don't care about that because I saw it for what it was. I am not discussing that because you and I both know it is not a correct assumption. So quit playing stupid and read the words I am writing. I don't care who they were or what color they were or what they wore or do for a past time.

What I am commenting on this the belief this is OK by so many people. If you want to play games and talk about discrediting a movement go ahead I am sure the OP will argue with you all day.

I'm not playing games. =0

Secondly, I think what others are arguing is that while taking water is technically stealing, it's awful petty to complain about it.

If some people are complaining about the moral/religious implications behind it:

"He who is without sin may cast the first stone."

If you have ever lied, cheated, stolen, coveted your neighbors wife, murdered, or used Gods name in vain, then you need to keep your trap shut and stop judging others. Quite frankly, I don't know ANYONE that hasn't done any of these things.

Absolutely. If OP had kindly said something along the lines of:
"Hey what are you guys upto, you know this is private property right? What can i help you with?"

Then maybe they wouldn't have told you to ef' off. I can imagine the tone used in what you said, i think almost anyone would be saying ef' off.

It's just water. Some people are not lucky enough to even have clean water. It would be an act of the 1% to hog all the water now wouldn't it. What is wrong with sharing a bottle of water or two?

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I am sure that if they would have asked the OP probably would have obliged or at least considered it. But what your suggesting is that they shouldn't have to ask, and should be able to just help themselves to his goods/property. If you don't see what is wrong with that then I don't know what to tell you.

I walk into Quick shop, the suckers are only $.25. That is barely anything so I should be able to just put one in my pocket and walk out without asking or paying for it right?

You are being sarcastic right?

Star for ya.........

Yes,although OP's position of stealing is on also. I think ASKING is the right thing to do,especially if its your faucet, the water is coming from........

I would give the shirt off my back, for someone in need, and have already.

Yes you are absolutely playing games my dude. Instead of trying to discuss what I wanted to talk about you instead are now telling me I shouldn't judge them because I have probably stolen or lied. Pathetic man. Pathetic. Shut my trap and stop judging others....Ok.

LOL this kind of response makes me laugh! It's just water what's the problem, he paid for that water, they stole that water. If they stole his car would the response be it's just a car?? No, it wouldn't. The OP has already said had they asked he would have told them it's OK to take the water, they didn't ask therefore they STOLE the water.

I support your decision.

I don't care for all the choice words for you and your choice though.

They could have went to McDonalds and got some for free.
Or asked a home nearby for some tap water or out of the hose.

Ok, so what I get out of this thread:

OP, you are a caretaker of some sort for an APT building, and you walk up on two "dirty guys" filling up some water bottles. You tell them to go away, they tell you for piss off. Is that right? Well is it possible they asked someone that actually lives there, and the tennant said "Hey there is a spigot over there, help yourself"?

The story really doesn't make much sense at all, how would they even know where the spigot is, unless someone pointed it out to them? Is it right on the sidewalk or something?

You catch more flies with honey.

It's ridiculous that instead of focusing attention on the elite, we're arguing about a couple random people who stole water from some guy in Canada.

/applaud

Great job ATSers. Keep up the great work!

Yeah.. I don't doubt that this might have happened.
What I doubt is that the OP nicely asked them to stop and they said eff off.
Then I call into question his motives for posting this and making it a point to note that he thinks all OWSers should be painted in the same negative light.

Had OP not been a jerk (which I presume he was) who was so shocked that someone might use his water spigot that he told them to get off his property etc, then they probably would have been very nice, thankful, and had they had some change or a buck, I bet they'd have given it.

Where I live if someone came and was using our hose for water and we came home, we wouldn't sweat it and would probably offer them food understanding that they were thirsty and might be hungry as well. Who is gonna run someone off that needs water to the point that they go in a strangers yard and get it from a hose? I actually think OP's actions are the shameful one. He even called the cops! Over people getting 30 cents of water out of his spigot! Crazy world we live in that people can't handle anything on their own. No wonder the police state is on its way.

Go ahead and put laxatives in their water. You will be arrested and charged for that.

If that was the case, then they could have politely just informed him that they asked Mrs. Jones in apartment 2B, and she said go ahead.

All rudeness averted.

Not really. The 1% would be more likely to sell the water, or if they didn't have any, to drill for more water so they could compete in the water market.

What is wrong with sharing a bottle of water or two?

Sharing is great. Sharing means that the person who possesses the water has rights and agency, that he or she gets to decide what to do with it. But that's not what happened. A couple of guys were stealing water, denying the water's possessor his rights and depriving him of his agency. When he stood up to them, they used verbal violence to further demean and depersonalize him, then continued stealing. It was clearly their belief that the person who possessed the water did not matter and that he had no right to make any decision that conflicted with their own desires. That's not exactly a sharing attitude on their part; it doesn't even acknowledge the water possessor's right to share or withhold. The OP, he never even got the chance to share. The opportunity to decide how to dispose of his water was denied to him when they took it without his permission. You can't blame him for not sharing what was taken from him before he was aware it was being taken.

Every drop counts... this is a microcosm of exactly what OWS is protesting.
