Now there I will concede your point, are they part of ows? Now if they are they get to have the whole movement painted with the broad brush. Not like that particular game hasn't been played before. If they were not, I offer my apologies for the statement. Still I find the actions of the NYC branches cooks to be a bit snobbish.Like I said earlier , it's not liked they paid for the food and it makes me wonder if all the protesters are contributing to camps running. I mean if the homeless and ex-cons are there protesting are they not part of the movement? Not saying they deserve a free ride but if they are part of the demonstrations they should reap the benefits.

I am thinking that a lot of the pro...take water where you want no need to ask type, are sitting in their parents house and own nothing and have never had a utility bill to pay in their lives!
Easy to say no problem with trespassers if you don't own or rent your own place and are sponging off someone else.

I think you got me confused with someone else broham. I didn't start this thread nor did I participate till a couple minutes ago. I am not yelling about anything or trying to equate this to an entire group of people. I am just astonished that so many people are OK with theft. Thats all.

Tricky tricky.

Don't be confused into thinking this was solely about theft.

This is about some guy trying to label a group of people over the actions of a few. (In this case a couple people in Canada.)

Deny ignorance!

Just love the responses of how it's ok for them to steal the water because the govt. does it. Of course the 2 aholes were with OWS and can be labeled as such. They represent OWS and their actions reflect the whole group; like it or not. Their fellow OWSers should keep them in line. No one wants to have anything stolen from them be it water or a parking spot.

OMG this has got to be the weakest attempt to discredit OWS so far.
If this story is to be believed, as its pretty short on detail, they stole water? REALLY???
How awful! What a crime!
That is much worse than having hundreds of millions stolen from the taxpayers to bail out the banks.
That is much worse than having hundreds of million of dollars worth of taxes not being paid due to use of creative accounting and offshore companies that the large majority of ordinary working people don't have access to.
That is much worse than a corrupt system that sees the same policies of the government and big business doing favours for each other and selling out the common man.

Yes I've been persuaded alright...

Unfortunately, a lot of homeless people are showing up at these protests in major cities, and are not helping the cause, and some people are vandalizing as well as stealing things. However, you cannot let the acts of two people define the rest of the 99%ers. That is just foolish.

If you really are worried just shut off the valve to that water spout.

Not always.

When I lived in West Texas water was ultra-expensive. I was paying 300$ a month for a water bill even though I would only do laundry once or twice and only take 3-4 showers in a whole month.

It was that expensive.

Also, that water had to be piped in from hundreds of miles away because there is no decent groundwater in that geographic location.

There are some places where water is extremely scarce, and ultra-expensive.

But no one ever got mad that I took a drink from their water hose...

I'm in El Paso

$47.07 was this past month's bill. I don't try to have a green yard, and this was the driest year in Texas for some time. But yeah depending where you are in the state it's cheaper to drive into town and buy 5gal jugs for drinking water.

If someone needed water, and took it, and didn't turn of the tap afterwards I'd be ticked. But I'd have to look out to see just the same to see who it was, and double check to make sure the tap was off.

The only time I'd blow a gasket would be if they left the tap running. But then that's me, water just isn't to be wasted in a desert. An I do get kinda disgruntled when my neighbor with their pet lawn snipes at me for not 'keeping it "green." But then they are not smart enough to realize they are wasting money and water....

Now if I was stuck out in the desert with only a few liters and you wanted to steal 'that' and leave me with none, then I'd be shooting you. But even then if you were on the verge of heat stroke and such, and asked, I'd give you at least half of what I had. And then show you how to get more from nature, so you could make it out alive.

But hey that's being neighborly.

M.

Thank you for once again demonstrating what is wrong with this country and what part of the protests I DON'T support.

It's not just a little water. It is water, owned by someone else, that someone else pays for. The person who owns the water works hard to pay for that water. Period. Had they asked for the water, I believe many would have said no problem.

But they didn't ask. They took it because it was there and they wanted it. Someone else had it, someone else paid for it. I bet if this was a rundown trailer they would have thought twice or moved on. My guess is that it is a decent house in a regular neighborhood. Oh....the shame of it.

Same mantra, different possession.

I think maybe you are reading into this a little much. I understand ya'll are pissed that the OP is trying to discredit the whole movement due to his experience. I don't care about that because I saw it for what it was. I am not discussing that because you and I both know it is not a correct assumption. So quit playing stupid and read the words I am writing. I don't care who they were or what color they were or what they wore or do for a past time.

What I am commenting on this the belief this is OK by so many people. If you want to play games and talk about discrediting a movement go ahead I am sure the OP will argue with you all day.

What a bunch of self-entitled little jerks!!!!
I am NOT part of the 1%...I am just a working class guy like most.

This is what went down.
I am walking up the street and see 2 dirtyish looking guys filling 4 giant water bottles (about 3 quarters the size of a water cooler bottle)
I said "hey guys you can't be doing that...you are trespassing"
He tells me to ef off and was extremely arrogant.

I say "there is alot of support for this movement...if you just would have asked it would have been fine"
The fact they might have been doing this under my nose for the last 2 weeks really pisses me off.

He tells me to "ef off" and tells me to "call the police"
So I did.
The cops showed up and knew who they were right away.
They told me these guys have a sense of self-entitlement and are arrogant.
They were also really nice (this is for all you cop bashers out there)
They called me back and told me it was dealt with and they will not be returning.
I thanked them and told them to have a good day and that I appreciated it.

This costs money and they aren't the ones paying for it.
I support the homeless (I give them money when I can) and up until this point i supported the occupy movement (in a small way)

Now...I just see these people as self-entitled,arrogant little douchebags.

So they just said "ef off"... I'm not sure I buy this story...

**edit** To say I can't believe how many people are on here to tell us they think it is perfectly fine for those 2 guys to steal your water. Unbelievable. You people will go far in life.

The sad thing is, they probably will. As soon as they give up their countercultural pretensions and start climbing the corporate ladder, their greed and lack of scruples will propel them straight to the top. They're excusing stealing a little water now, in 20 years it'll be millions of dollars of shareholder wealth or workers' benefits. "It's just a few million, you're not going to get bent out of shape over that, are you?!"

Absolutely. If OP had kindly said something along the lines of:
"Hey what are you guys upto, you know this is private property right? What can i help you with?"

Then maybe they wouldn't have told you to ef' off. I can imagine the tone used in what you said, i think almost anyone would be saying ef' off.

It's just water. Some people are not lucky enough to even have clean water. It would be an act of the 1% to hog all the water now wouldn't it. What is wrong with sharing a bottle of water or two?

It's his "perceived" view of events... yes it is most likely slanted in favor of him, and that's his natural right to an opinion.

Imagine the other sides' argument (not hard to because many posters are voicing it for them), then realise that the truth is in the middle somewhere.

Regardless of where the truth lies, if they took something without asking, and were possibly rude about it, then the righteous ground is with the OP.

ETA: I like that little pun... the Truth Lies.

Dude if you really think the entire OWS movment as a whole is going to reject someone because they steal water you are being silly. There are people of all walks of life involved in that movement, nice people, mean people, thieves, drug users, teachers, christians, rapists... etc.

Lets be real here, many (I said many not all) are out there strictly for a hand out. So I really doubt they would see stealing water as a bad thing, you think asking for people to pay 50%+ of their income to pay for the people that can't work is any different?
