Article 6 Article Six of the United States Constitution provides that "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States". Prior to the adoption of the Bill of Rights, this was the only mention of religion in the Constitution.

I did a quick search and you are right, legally no one has to believe in a God, but I swear I read a article from ATS that stated a few cities made it illegal not to believe in a supreme being, and you know I agree with you, In God We Trust is a lawsuit, I've had people tell me I'm not an American because I don't believe in a God.

Oh I'm sure some cities have tried to force religion as a requirement.

And tried to force anyone out who didn't adhere to a specific belief.

When you think about it, religious people are bribed by god with the promise of eternal paradise, but only if they are a good person. A person who doesn't believe in the afterlife or god who is good to people and is a charitable person is surely a better person because they have no supernatural incentive

I'm athiest. I go about my daily life just doing my thing. I don't hurt anyone, talk down to anyone or preach my beliefs. IMO my life or any human being is of = value to any other living creature on this planet. I am no better than a fly as it is no better than me. Science is my religion. There is a begining and an end.

I don't know if the ptb are conditioning people to be athiests if so it can only be good for us in the long run. Religion is holding us back as a species. Stupid costly conflicts all in the name of god.

I honestly don't understand how any truly educated person can take religion seriously. I guess if you brainwash them at a young enough age they could believe those fairy tale their whole life.

Actually, the rest of your argument aside, I would say Religion is an (not "a"..you cannot have "a" something when the first letter of the next word is a vowel or soft consenant) "all clear sign" for taking no responsibility for your own actions

In the case of a religion like Christianity it's a bit of both. On the one hand you have the sacrifice of Jesus taking all of your sins so no matter how heinous the things you do you never have to take responsibility as long as you get "saved". But on the other hand you have Jesus saying things like "don't point out the speck in your brother's eyes while there's a log in your own eye" which seem to suggest personal responsibility.

So even within the same religion you can have entirely mixed messages.

Atheism cannot be linked to moral or immoral behavior since it has no specific dogma or beliefs. We atheists get our morality from a source other than religion, I suspect that most theists do as well but that's another topic for another thread.

Neither do I.

I honestly don't get it. You can be having a very honest straight forward intelligent interesting discussion with someone - - mention Jesus - - and they lose their brain. Its like the morph into something else.

Amazing, but also interesting. All these atheists seem to be superior and better persons than anyone else.

Ever watch Ancient Aliens? Those guys are pretty intelligent I would say. They go as far as to say that the Bible is the oldest known written report about Aliens. I don't know how much I jive with that, but those professors are far more credited than you and I and they believe most of the bible... just not in the same context.

Black holes, Worm holes, time travel, and Extra-dimensions would also have been laughed at and called Fairy-Tales.... lets see what... like 100 years ago?

Sounds like someone is prejudice toward atheists... To categorize all of them into one group of misfits with no conscious is ignorant... Nothing but hate banter I tell you what!

Lets be clear. The modern bible is a collection of hand selected interpretations of ancient scripts.

Obviously there is truth in ancient scripts. What that truth is and which truths are pure to the original writings - - interpreted by known experience of the time it was written - - - is something else.

So yes there is truth in the bible. How much truth? Well . . . . But - the bible is not truth.

I agree..great thread!

It's like they are trying to make people think there is no God so then people will think they won't be judged when they die.And people will tend to do bad things because they think they won't have to worry that God is going to judge them when they die.

Thereby creating more chaos. So they can lay their order out of chaos bullcrap on people! When in fact it's the government creating the chaos.

Another atheist bashing thread? Are you so insecure with your own beliefs that you need to bash someone elses just to make you feel reaffirmed about yours? "Ignorant atheist cattle"? That statement just proved how ignorant you are. Just because I or anyone else doesn't believe in god doesn't mean we are out raping, killing, stealing, etc.. How completely ignorant of you to assume that someone cannot be a good person simply because they do not pledge allegiance to some mythical fairy tale god. For the record, I am atheist, I have been all my adult life thankfully because my parents weren't religious, so I didn't get brainwashed or dragged to church. I am happily married to my high school sweetheart (15 years) with 3 beautiful children ( all honor students) a good job and I am a cub scout den leader. And all of this without a god?
And for you to say atheists are ignorant cattle while at the same time saying your not even religious is a bit hypocritical, don't ya think? So keep on bashing atheists if it'll help you sleep at night. But it won't help you prove or disprove anything.

Because religion, especially denounces being a slave to materialism and money, and preaches independence and praise for the lord, and advocates an anti consumerism stance. Religion goes against the wishes of TPTB. This is why there is a war in the Muslim countries because they are anti-materialistic and won't cave into the consumer environment so that the evil people make money.

the ignorant atheist cattle

It's a free ticket for egoism, narcissism, cheating, lying, violence, vulgarity and indecent behavior.

Yeah, and they eat babies, too.

What a pile of gargantuan bollixes.

I love children but I couldn't eat a whole one.

There's war in the middLe east because of religion! Not the lack there of. Religion is probably responsible for more deaths than all wars combined. And yes it is remarkable that anyone with an education or even common sense for that matter would buy into this religious malarky

Don't even try to pull that religion is the cause of most deaths crap. . . . . You know for a fact that is BS.

Are you familiar with the methods taken by the secular communist movements?

20 million starve to death under stalin
60 million starve to death under mao tse dung
3 million killed by the khmer rouge
over 10 million russians died ww2
millions in ally nation deaths
USA dropping nuclear bombs on Japan

All religious right. . . .

Funny how the atheists are all; HEY THATS NOT WHAT ATHEISM IS ABOUT WE ARE DESCENT HUMAN BEINGS. And then continue in the same sentence, to bash and attack the OP....

@OP I do get what you are trying to say, but just because you aren't a theist, does not mean that you are not bound by some moral or ethical code.
Its just that there is no consequence to an atheist, should he break this code... But hell, (pun intended) just like us christians, we just have to repent and we will be forgiven, no matter the sin, as long as the remorse is pure....

That was a neat trick that the anointed one did there...

Hooked on phonics didn't work for you. If you read the post you will clearly see that I said religion has caused more deaths than all WARS combined. Not more deaths than those at the hands of tyrannical dictators ( who were most likely acting on behalf of their religious beliefs)

First, thank you for the personal insults. You know that these countries fought wars to earn their statehood? You should look into the death for WW1 and 2 then try and tally. You wouldn't even be right if you extended your opinion to the limits of human history.

Religion doesn't kill people, People kill people.

And since you wanted more war how about these?

Unit 731
Massacre of Nanking
Massacre of East Timor
Vietnam

so you practically think that all atheists are rotten and and those with faith are cleansheet eh? that is really overgeneralizing. you're offending atheists just because they're atheists and none of their qualities as a human but their atheism plays any role in your judgment. sir, this no good.
