Egypt opens Rafah crossing to Gazans

Egypt has opened its Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip after Israeli massive strikes on the besieged strip killed at least 200 people.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak condemned the attacks and gave instructions for the Rafah terminal to be opened to allow the treatment of the wounded in Egyptian hospitals, the state news agency Mena reported on Saturday.

Ooops, I posted that reply way back on page 2 of the thread. I am still new and learning the ropes of posting. Heck, I am still reading through the whole thread.

This is a very sad thing and I don't believe we will see an end to this in our lifetime. I am 51 and this has been something that people of our age group have grown to adulthood watching.

The bottom line is this: War is evil and it only benefits the ones giving the orders and their pockets. EVERYONE else suffers. Whether or not Hamas is responsible or the Israelis are responsible for this ongoing mess, INNOCENT people are dying. IT is just wrong and I don't care who your god is.

It is good news that Egypt opened up the border. Now hamas can take off to Egypt and become an Egyptian problem.

haha. That's what it's going to be too. It's unfortunate but true. The bombings will be stepped up; They'll be defeated handily and allowed to remain due to international pressure. The Palestinian territories didn't need this; They're having a hard enough time maintaining their economic dominance of Zimbabwe.

Are there any realistic estimates yet on how many civilians are among the dead (from neutral sources)? From what I read and see on the news it looks like most of the dead were Hamas militants (dressed in black uniforms). It indeed appears that Israel has struck only military targets - which is ofcouse impossible to do without collateral damage in the densely populated Gaza.

I dont know where, or what is your sense of humanism, or spirit of knights? What is noble, also in the battlefield.

If soldier is wounded, enemy or your own, its in "rules of engagement" that all wounded should take care equally!

- Its only right thing to do, open borders and start helping those poor peoples. Taking care of wounded victims is also Israelis natural responsibility... But as we see today, they dont care anything but them self... Bastards!

They were mostly policemen who worked under Hamas because they are part of the government.

The actual millitants are waiting for IDF forces to enter Gaza to give them a nice battering.

Wow. Over the last few days, we see the Hamas refuse to renew the "peace" deal,

we see Hamas launch rockets and mortars across the border, and

we see the Israelis warning the Gazans to cease.

I am stunned that anyone is surprised.

I am astounded that (people) are still blaming Israel.

Now that it's begun, time to finish it.

From Source

Black smoke billowed over Gaza City, where the dead and wounded lay scattered on the ground after Israel bombed more than 40 security compounds, including two where Hamas was hosting graduation ceremonies for new recruits.

and

Hamas estimated that at least 100 members of its security forces had been killed, including police chief Tawfiq Jabber and the head of Hamas's security and protection unit, along with at least 15 women and some children.

BBC. "Massive Israeli armour and ground forces build up on Gaza border." Looks like the air strikes were just a softening up measure. Btw has Israel called up the reserves yet?

So that was the plan all along. I'm usually good at reading the chicken bones but I got blind sided by that one. It also explains why the Israeli leadership were travelling to Egypt and other countries. They must have had a peace plan minus Hamas! Let us see if something comes out of this.

Don't worry iran will acquire nukes soon but i got a feeling it already has.

Pakistan is working with China at the moment in building longer range missiles that can bring israel within it's range soon too.I bet ISI is itching to get some action in israel.

Looks like a flushing operation. The back door to Egypt has now been opened. The second line is not worthy of being completed so I will not. The point has already been made in the first line.

I agree with what your saying. I also want Hamas to take off to. If they leave, Gaza chances of prosperity increases. Israel can work with Fatah but Hamas has shown time and time again that Peace is something they won't tolerate.

Don't get too excited mate.

Serbs celebrated too when they started their ethnic cleansing but now they are crying.
