I think they won't leave until it is clear that no US military FORCES (armed) will be deployed to Georgia, because it would be MUCH harder to stop them Americans if Russians left.

Russian Relations In Doubt, Gates Says
U.S. Assessing Need For Aid in Georgia
Russian behavior in Georgia has "called into question the entire premise" of relations between Washington and Moscow, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said yesterday, even as the Bush administration appeared willing to let Russia take its time removing its forces from disputed areas inside the former Soviet republic.

Russians Leave, Then Return to Seized Georgian City
Medvedev Receives Separatist Leaders
TBILISI, Georgia, Aug. 14 -- Georgia remained in a state of uncertainty Thursday as Russian troops retreated from and then returned to the city of Gori and spent much of the day destroying or carrying away captured Georgian military equipment. Elsewhere in the country, Russian tanks and trucks rolled along country roads toward unknown destinations, watched by local people.

Moscow vows to back separatists
MOSCOW: Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told the separatist leaders of South Ossetia and Abkhazia yesterday that Moscow would act as their guarantor and support whatever they decided on their status.

After a meeting with Mr Medvedev at the Kremlin, Abkhazian leader Sergei Bagapsh and South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity vowed to push ahead with independence from Georgia.

"We will achieve independence in accordance with all of the rules of international law," Mr Kokoity said.

Mr Bagapsh vowed the two separatist regions would move towards their aim of independence together.

The war in Georgia

Russia resurgent

ON THE night of August 7th, Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgia’s president, embarked on an ill-judged assault on South Ossetia, one of his country’s two breakaway enclaves. Russian tanks, troops and aircraft poured across the border. Just five days later, after pulverising the Georgian armed forces, Russia announced that it was ending its operations.

Thanks.

To everyone:

The problem with these fast moving threads is that posts are left behind too fast, so I don't know if anyone saw this post I made some minutes ago.

Can anyone confirm if the peace deal was not signed by Saakashvili?

As far as I know, Georgia hasn't even received the peace agreement yet. Condi Rice is supposed to be bringing it from France.

Now Georgia is making noises about not signing it...

I'll be honest - unfortunately, I don't think it's really going to make a jot of difference. Both sides have been prone to, well... going back on their word. I don't think a piece of paper is realistically going to change that.

Let's see.

But isn't the six point agreement the first one?

That was the one talked about on the post above my first post about it.

I am a bit confused about that.

Rice arrives in Georgia to deliver peace agreement

TBILISI, Aug 15 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in Georgia on Friday for talks with President Mikheil Saakashvili on formalising a French-negotiated ceasefire to the South Ossetian conflict.

The plan calls for the withdrawal of Moscow's forces but allows limited Russian peacekeeping patrols until outside observers arrive.

Moscow has already agreed in principle to the deal and the self-styled presidents of Georgia's breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have signed it.

www.alertnet.org...

I don't think Russia has signed it either. I think they've just "agreed to it in principle."

Ok, to clear things up a bit.

Sarkozy's agreement was a ceasefire agreement, both signed by Georgia and Russia.

The agreement that Rice has is a peace agreement, which hasn't been signed by anyone yet.

Then there is a 3rd agreement, I don't know the details of it yet, that was signed by Russia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Gee is russia going to attack Poland now due to that missile shield agreement?Time will tell.

No way in hell that they will do that. If it's the case, I won't be able to apologies because it will start WW3.

LMAO!As opposed to "russian media"in high gear?russian propaganda machine has been in high gear since july 20.

Yeah but at least Russian medias aren't calling Georgia president Hitler. Come on, saying that Putin is a CZAR, Stalin or Hitler... that's really funny. Putin is really wicked, but not as much as Hitler nor Stalin, there's just no comparaison. And the whole ``Russia is expanding`` BS.. Georgia started it, PERIOD.

Stop Using Weapon Banned by 107 Nations

That's funny. Israel used them extensively in Lebanon and it was supplied by the US... how hypocritical.

Ukraine ups ante in threat to block fleet

That's scary.

And Justice11, I'm not mad at you, I like you, you're a great contributor to this thread!

Personally I don't think it means much when politicians use the phrase "New World Order," because I think they just mean exactly that - a new international order, post Cold War and post WWII (not that I don't believe in such a conspiracy; it's just that I don't think that kind of conspiracy or one world government is what every politician means when they use the phrase) - but I know others feel differently and I respect that, so I thought some peope might like to see this video in which the Georgian president says this conflict is about "the future of the New World Order."

"Sightseing" of Tskhinvaly.
voinodel.livejournal.com...
Translation of one post from this blog as follow:
Here is an opinion of one spetznaz fighter.
We entered Osetia with a pack of trucks with humanitarian help and immediatly found ourselves under the sniper fire. After we conveyed them to their destination we participated in "clean-ups" of Tskhinvali and few other villages. After 15 minutes of skirmishing with Georgians we found them running away from us! Georgeans were armed with M16s and M4s (we opposed the Georgean spec. ops. forces). They were wearing American uniform. We also were sneaking surroundigs looking for snipers. Amazing thing is that 10% of their snipers were girls with Slavian appearance. They were defending up to the end, but never left their positions. When we entered one of Osetian villages we saw lots of corpses of civilians. Many of them were crushed (probably by tanks). "Green corridors" that Georgia announced was under constant sniper fire. Well, war is an awful thing.

Well that's going to be a problem right there since the US refuses to ban the use of cluster bombs. Can't really play that card against the Russians..
