Thanks AceWombat04, that info seems to be accurate...

I'm ashamed of my government statements... (Canada) at the VERY least he should have been non-partisan, calling for the end of hostilities.... but no, he's a puppet.

Those militias should help South Ossetians and Abkhazians instead of seeding trouble....

And Russia should make a pact with the Georgian army to overthrow that son-of-a-biatch so-called president of Georgia.

Dont shoot the messenger.Im not here to engage in one side or the other.Either side can be propaganda.Everyone would do well to remember that.

Talk Is Cheap
What Georgia needs.
Despite the optimism of Nicolas Sarkozy’s peace plan, the conflict in Georgia seems to be far from over. Not only do many details of the plan still lack agreement (the plan is based largely on Russian demands), but Russian troops are moving farther into Georgia, breaking their agreement to return to their August 6 positions. As the situation worsens, it is important to understand how and why it came about, and to consider the long-term implications for both the region and U.S. involvement.

Sorry again if you thought it was aimed at you.

I spoke to a person today about the conflict and he said the whole Georgia region as he put it including the breakaway provinces are run by criminal enterprises that have been nagging russia for years.

Georgia's PR agency lashes out at Russian 'propaganda'
The Brussels PR agency promoting Russia's side in the dispute with Georgia has been criticised for being part of Russia's 'propaganda' machine.

GPlus has been advising the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation since April 2006. Meanwhile, rival agency Aspect Consulting was hired by Georgia late last year to reach out to Western audiences.

So the two latest developments from Russia:

- U.S.-Poland deal shows defence system is used against Russia

- Seized large depot of U.S. made arms in Senaki

BREAKING - SKY TV - Russian General Staff: Have seized large depot of U.S.-made arms near town on Senaki, Georgia.

Holy jebus! Russia will be pissed off.... if it comes out that some of the ``humanitarian aid`` included weapons... it's gonna escalate.

BTW, do you have a link?

And to ALL, THANKS FOR THE UPDATES!

We are observing a number of actions on both sides that we think are worth analysis, but we are going to slow down a bit and let events develop.

The cease-fire is enabling better press coverage from inside Georgia, and there is evidence the International Red Cross and other international agencies are out collecting information that will be useful for analysis of what has happened, and what is happening.

Sky Held At Gunpoint In Georgia
There are looters in Gori, I can vouch for that.

One minute we were driving past a column of Russian armour that, according to Moscow, wasn't supposed to be there.

The next we were being held up at gunpoint and plunged into that moment when it flashes in your mind that your life is in real danger.

I don't think that is what the news report means. It was a weapons depot consisting of weapons made by the US, not part of the humanitarian package

On Thin Ice
Shortly before noon yesterday, President Bush issued a statement in the Rose Garden about the military conflict between Russia and Georgia. Most of his statement could be classified as wishful thinking and diplomatic posturing. For example, he proclaimed that the United States “stands with the democratically elected government of Georgia,” and that “we insist” that the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity be respected. There were also vague threats that Washington might no longer support Moscow’s bid for integration into important international diplomatic and economic institutions

I can confirm that. During the Rugby World Cup Georgia outplayed themselves and almost ended up upsetting the whole applecart. After one of their memorable victories the TV announcer piped up about how they'd received a news release from the PR company about the GNP of said country and the annual rate of growth, etc. (Not a good advert for the PR company, it has to be said. It was so crass the commentator and a few hundred million other people just sat there chuckling. Mind you, they made up for it when, a few days later, the President announced that the number of rugby pithes in their country was going to be increased from one to eight as a result of a serious capital investment.)

Back on topic: There seems to be increasing evidence that the S.O. cessationist 'freedom fighters' were, and are, in fact something akin to mafiosi. Earlier in this thread someone said something about them being led by jailbait. I still see no reason to doubt that they provoked the Georgians knowing full well there would be huge loss of life.

Volunteering to Kill Georgians
The Vladikavkaz City Recruiting Center in the Russian territory of North Ossetia lies just outside the main town, through a tall, steel gate. Inside, along a small driveway overlapped by tall pines, lie a parking lot, pavilion and fruit orchard. A low, two-story concrete building with peeling paint serves as the recruiting center. Men in clean, dark green fatigues organize would-be recruits. They are mostly men in their 50s and 60s who have already served but are too old now. Lots of gray hair and mustaches, gold teeth and cigarettes.

Russia destroying military bases in Georgia

American and Georgian officials said that Russian soldiers were sabotaging airfields and tearing up army facilities.

Russia is defying an appeal by Condoleezza Rice, the US Secretary of State, for it to obey the terms of a peace deal with Georgia. In Moscow its foreign minister Sergei Lavrov announced that the world can "forget about" Georgia's territorial integrity.

The EU Enters Russia's 'Parallel Universe'

The surest way of wrong-footing a rational opponent is to act unpredictably. Unpredictability has been Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's best weapon in Russia's conflict with Georgia. "Poor [Russian President Dmitry] Medvedev was one of the collateral victims of the war," noted the French daily "Liberation" in an editorial on August 11.

Russian forces have been accused of rampaging through Georgia and destroying its military infrastructure.

Well yes. When a country attacks you, you do something like that to destroy their ability to strike you again. That's simple rules of war and LOGICS.

How is that news?
