The Georgian Military Headquarters has just made an announcement that there is no invasion from any Russian troops. It was on Russian TV, but clearly in Georgia.

A Georgian army official said that someone is spreading disinformation on a major scale.

-Take this for what it is worth - it is on Russian TV after all and could be as false as everything else.

Nothing in any Russian news about any large scale movement by Russian troops. However there are dozens of Russian reporters in S. Ossetia, and they cannot miss an "invasion force" on the move.

Mixed messages as to what's happening continue

Witnesses had earlier said a column of Russian tanks were moving from Gori towards Tbilisi, amid reports killing and looting was taking place.

"A convoy of Russian tanks left Gori, but is not heading to Tbilisi," Eka Zguladze said.

"I'd like to calm everybody down. The Russian military is not advancing towards the capital."

She did not however say what the Russian troops were doing.

Russia had denied its troops were making their way to Tbilisi.

However, Anatoly Nagovitsyn, the Russian military's deputy chief of staff, had also categorically denied that there were any tanks on the streets of Gori.

My Russian friend, I think you have served your nation well. But now your comrads ARE in Gori. And they seem to of taken over the nation in every way you described they wouldn't.

Unfortunitly your red is shining a little to brightly.

Your updates are no longer worth paying attention too.

Edit:

And now I see RussianBoy coming to the defence of Maloy..

In the last few days I have seen more than a few russians defend Russia on this site...

But I have not seen one georgian. Kinda begins to make me suspect the Russians here are less than impartial. I mean we can get all kinds of russian views about this conflict but no Georgians? That is odd. Admittedly I have had to sleep so I have missed some pages so if we got a georgian on this board giving us daily updates as to the georgians side of the story than please let me know.

IMO probably the most accurate post we've seen on this thread in quite some time. What some would call relayers of "accurate" information, quite a few others would see as russian sycophants dreaming of what they mistakenly think are the glory days of the old soviet empire. People that probably think that stalin was practically the second coming of Jesus instead of the monstrous butcher he really was.

Well, this is officially out of control. We tried a cease fire and it backfired. I don't think there is anything we can do now. i really hope we don't get involved in this. I feel like this is a replay of WW2.. Bad economy, new war, then comes draft.. That will be horrible if they send all of our men over seas again like they did in the last world war. My grandfather told me that when they started the draft for WW2 that the army had trucks going around all the towns in America and young guys were just jumping on the back of them and that was it, they were off to war.... I hope everything works out..

Great post by the way

I'm just reading it directly off my TV screen right now - AFP: Ukraine President Yuschenko signs decree imposing restrictions on Russia's Black Sea Fleet.

I'll try and find a link.

Wow. It would appear that Ukraine has backed up its warning a couple of days ago that it might do this with actions. Is there a link? (I only ask because I'm trying to compile a news article timeline of all this.) Thanks.

Ukraine cancels missile warning agreement with Russia

Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko has terminated the agreement on missile warning and space monitoring systems with Russia. The treaty dated back to July 6, 1992. The termination came at Russia's request, as the country is building radar stations on its own territory, which would replace missile warning systems in the CIS.

The Ukrainias are acting like the Russian Black Sea Fleet is there only for the parade days . Wake up Ukraine it is a Naval Force and it is there to serve its country if needed .

Ultimately, regardless of the reasons, .................... but this is still a violation of the agreement and could have very serious international (though almost certainly not military in my opinion) consequences.

There's no confirmation that they're heading to the capital, actually. The situation is fluid and very confusing.

Essentially, Russian forces appear to have entered Gori along with irregular South Ossetian militia. Russia denied this. However once witnesses said that Russian forces had left from Gori and were headed toward the capital, Russia confirmed that this was true, but said that they were simply there to demilitarize the area by dismantling a weapons depot they had discovered. They turned off the main road to the capital, and instead headed for an abandoned military base (ostensibliy to do so.) However, Russia had already said that they weren't in Gori, and then subsequently confirmed that they had been. So who knows?

The number of forces reported seems small to take the capital, but there could be under-reporting, or they could be planning to secure staging areas to bring in more troops for that very purpose. We have no idea what's going on.

Thanks for taking time to denounce me posting news from the Russian side.

Your contribution to this thread on the other hand was undeniably of great importance on the other hand.

Keep up the great work.
