Errr did you even looked at the link with the VRT footage I posted earlier?
Then you'd see they are Russia, Vostok brigade to be more precise.

I guess you will only tell it's true once the Russian media says it's true.

Those are Georgians. Not Russians.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but those aren't Russian flags and insignia

Those aren't Russian tanks or vehicle either.

Can anyone confirm this? I'm ready to believe that these aren't Russian troops and tanks, it sounds more like seperatists taking advantage of the situation and getting a little war happy, but I still can't find a picture of this 'supposed' russian convoy..

Anybody..?

It has been reported on all if not most news channels that the Russian soldiers in the vehicles were shouting Tbilisi! Tbilisi! and said that they intended to drive to Tbilisi well before they even left Gori. I believe they have already received their orders and it is a matter of time till they reach Tbilisi. They may be making stops here and there before Tbilisi to take out the bases or turn them into staging areas for further attacks!

Mark my words... by 10am eastern time, Russia will be attacking the capital Tbilisi! Look for Nato to send troops once this occurs.

Chance said CNN had been told by Georgian officials that the convoy was mostly likely heading for an abandoned Georgian military base at Uplistsikhe, six miles (10 km) east of Gori.

It strongly appears that the russians are lying
about their attacks - and now atrocities and war crimes - in Georgia.

CNN Article

"There is no cease-fire," Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili told CNN this morning. "They are going through villages killing people, destroying, blowing up houses. They even take out furniture ... even steal toilet seats,"

what differance does it make weather russia go all the way to the capital or not, surely they're way outside their peacekeeping role at this stage.

That was exactly my point earlier. If these are Russian vehicles, and they appear to be, they have absolutely no reason to be where they are right now. This would be like a Mexican military convoy rolling into Tuscon. Would we view that as an act of war? You'd better believe we would.

The Russians are shouting Tbilisi shows their support for the Georgian people. They are simply cheering on the Tbilisi football team who have a match this week.

Also - maybe it is the Ukrainian forces invading. They have the same tanks. How can you tell it's Russians. Get Ukraine out of Georgia now.

GO TBILISI.

Russia announces reasons for incursion:

MOSCOW, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Russian peacekeepers said on Wednesday they were removing military hardware and ammunition from an arms depot outside the Georgian town of Gori.

"In the vicinity of Gori, a big military depot was discovered containing Georgian military hardware," a spokesman for Russia's peacekeeping force said by telephone.

"The depot was unguarded and the military hardware there was battle-ready. In the interests of demilitarising the conflict zone and ensuring the safety of the population, the military hardware and ammunition are now being removed."

www.alertnet.org...

Things also worth bearing in mind, in my opinion:

1) If this were an invasion force intenton taking Tbilisi, why would there not be a greater number of troops/vehicles? It would take more than these few (70) tanks to capture Tbilisi by my understanding.

2) Why would the Georgian government itself tell the CNN reporter traveling with the Russian convoy that the Russian forces would be turning off the main road to Tbilisi, and traveling to an abandoned base, rather than proceeding to Tbilisi? If there is that kind of communication between Russian and Georgian officials, I find it difficult to believe that they plan on taking the capital.

3) While it is possible that the intent is to capture the abandoned base, or other bases, and then build up forces at them as staging areas to take the capital by force later, it's also possible that Russia will simply dismantle or destroy such bases, and then withdraw, as their stated intent from the beginning has been to erode the Georgian military and prevent further Georgian attacks.

I'm not defending Russia by any means. I think it was provocative for them to enter Georgia. This also does not explain the irregular Ossetian forces said to have been looting and causing damage in Gori, or the alleged Russian statements that they were headed for Tbilisi. However, I'm trying to be both objective and optimistic if at all possible.
