someone acting as Russians?

Actually, I should have added this because it's also important to the detail. One of the reporters (his name is Jason something) said that one of the Russian soldiers shouted something to him and his colleague.

CNN says that journalists in Gori see no Russian tanks at the time of this printing, but that residents describe a "some Russian tanks" there earlier.

However journalists in Gori, 15 miles (24km) over the South Ossetian border into Georgia, said they had seen no Russian tanks. Residents there told the journalists they had earlier seen "some" Russian tanks, but not in large numbers.

Why is news so hit or miss during this confict?

Just heard 50 Russian tanks were mobilized in Gogan sp? This does not bode well. So much for a cease fire. I see escalation. Very sorry. I did not see the previous post that already had mentioned this.

That's a video of the capital of South Ossetia, not Gori (the title and the narration both state this.)

The reporters in the centre of Gori have absolutely, unequivocally confirmed it, Wombat. Live to the studio via phone about 10 minutes ago.

Either the Russians are in Gori or the reporters are lying. There was no confusion - it was just matter of fact. One of the Russian soldiers shouted something at them. They also personally witnessed a group of journalists being 'robbed' by them, too.

Sky news TV of course

Is it possible that the phone call was a reporter quoting something he had heard someone else say? Perhaps comments of the president of Georgia? I ask because of this quote from CNN right now:

"As I speak, the Russian tanks are attacking the town of Gori and are rampaging through the town," President Mikheil Saakashvili told a news conference. "There is marauding. There is destruction of buildings."

However journalists in Gori, 15 miles (24km) over the South Ossetian border into Georgia, said they had seen no Russian tanks. Residents there told the journalists they had earlier seen "some" Russian tanks, but not in large numbers

Still, "some" would still make it a cease-fire violation.

I just don't want to believe it (because of what it could mean) until it's independently confirmed and I can see such confirmation with my own two eyes online, with witnesses or reporters saying it (as you say you just heard on TV... I don't have TV so I have to wait for it online.)

CNN paragraph grab:

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia was halting military action because Georgia had paid enough for its attack on South Ossetia, a separatist region along the Russian border with close ties to Moscow.

Makes me think weather Medvedev is even in control of the military or not. Looks like Putin is the one who is controlling the military operations and Medvedev is just the puppet. Putin is at the front lines. Looks like Medvedev has lost control of his army!

The Russian President has declared that peacekeeping operations are now over.

Russia now has half of Georgia - conflict is not yet over in Abkhazia, freedom fighters are still fighting the Georgian invaders, Russia may still be helping them. Israel and America are still arming and commanding Georgian forces.

American mercenaries are amongst the dead and captured. The Russian people blame America and Israel for instigating the conflict. The American people blame John Edwards for cheating on his wife and have been informed that Blue is the 'new green'.

Israel and America -2, Russia=1

why isn't Reuters or bbcnews running this story?

Because it's bull?

Seriously, THAT'S BS.

Russia 'attacking' town, Georgia president says

GEORGIA PRESIDENT SAYS. Which means: TOTAL BS.

Saakashvili also accused Russia of the "carpet bombardment" of Tskhinvali, South Ossetia's capital, and setting up internment camps for residents there and the other separatist territory, Abkhazia.

That guy is NUTS.
