I noticed that, too. The guy on the blog, if it is him, will probably start taking it all down if he realizes that people are now looking at his blog and saying that he had something to do with it. Or freaking out on him because of his depressing blog, sprinkled with an obsession with weapons.

VA Tech has a HUGE smear on their name now. This is the second time in a year that the campus has been closed due to shootings. I'm guessing enrollment is gonna drop. I feel bad for the parents who have yet to be notified. My heart goes out to them.

They are giving a live press conference and said that the shooter committed suicide but that there may be a second suspect, they are still following leads. They have also confirmed that two weapons have been recovered.

What a terrible day. We had huge gusts of wind all night and I only got 4 hours of sleep. Then I had the worst morning of my life. My wife is a therapist (Psy.D. ABD) at VT. As you can guess it has been a crazy day. My wife was in DC since Tuesday and was supposed to be back at work this morning. I called her over and over and left way too many v-mails. I think I went through a pack of smokes by 12:00. Finally she sent me a text saying she was fine and had just gotten back at work. She had stayed in DC and drove back with a coworker this morning. She left her charger in her hotel room and her phone was dead. Her office is across the street from one of the crime scenes. The counseling center is open until 9pm but she sent me a text saying that they may be there all night.
I don't know...I am still a bit shaken...full of "what ifs"....what if she was at work that morning....what if the gunman had turned left instead of right?

I am so pissed off at VT. My wife was offered a job with VT, next year, and she turned it down. I am so glad that she did. I have no confidence in VT Admin. Since she works in psychology, this type of event is something that is always worried me. They sat on the first incident for PR reasons, and now they have all of those kids’s blood on their hands. Maybe I am still speaking out of emotion, but I am counting the days until we get the hell out of here!

from presser

Doors to Norris hall were chained from the inside, once police gained access they heard gunfire from a higher floor, by the time the officers got to the scene the shots stopped and the shooter had killed himself.

Two weapons were recovered but police would not say what kind they were.

ATF doing ballistics on the bullets

No one in custody

Still unsure if there is another shooter, waiting on ballistics to see if the two shooting incidents were related

explaining the difficulty in locking down a campus the size of Va Tech

at least 2 doors were chained

police not releasing details on the shooter's ID

faculty among the deceased

they have a person of interest but this person is not in custody because the police have nothing to charge him with

VaTech President also explaining the difficulty of locking down the campus (CYA?)

2hr delay in informing students due to ongoing investigation and the thought that it was under control

person of interest is not a student

I think this is the first time that i have really been rattled by a school shoting. I go to the university of florida (1st year) and i fell like...it could have easily happened on my campus. I wonder what set him off.

I too go to the University of Florida actually, and was trying to fathom what such a shooting would be like at a large school. Wow did news of that spread like wildfire on campus. I see many people in my classes who wear shirts that advertise SIG arms, H&K, the second amendment, even local militias, in my physics and physiology classes. I wonder if they will think to put them on this week.

Va Tech has bout 28k students, UF has bout 50k, and both are competative schools. It's a scary reminder that, for whatever reason, these kinds of things can happen anywhere, whether it be your high school, elementary, or large college.

Alot of questions as to why we are so violent. I mentioned it pages back but for those just skipping to the front - Bowling For Columbine - whether or not you like Michael Moore, is an interesting film attempting to answer the question - why is the United States so violent? Many good points, and some bad points. Shows the whole "dems will probably resort to gun control in the coming future, other groups, probably religious will point to metal music, others to video games, etc." It's all addressed.

thing is there is no PROOF that the guy on live journal is the same one as the shooter. By all accounts here (just 35 miles away) the shooter killed himself. Also he, according to student witnesses had bullet belts over his shoulders and wandered through Norris hall shooting randomly.

youre missing something, it says something to the effect of thoughts are with all the people affected by the shooting.

I hope that there weren't two shooters. All that would prove is that there is an uncaught shooter out there, and that will just freak people out more.

With respect to identifying the shooter, I am reading that he shot himself in the face and had no ID on him, so identifying him is going to be a difficult process.

like I asked earlier, where would the banning stop? I mean, would we also be required to cut off our hands so we are no longer able to strangle? How about pointy sticks? Pieces of metal? Knives? Forks? Frying pans? Where would the banning stop?

Anyway, this isn't really what this thread is about, but you do bring up a good point.
No its not a good point, Ive yet to see someone go on a rampage strangling 30+ people at a school.

guns are different because there is no defence against them and its easy to kill dozens of people. Thats not so with bare hands or knives.

trust me, you ban guns and people will revert to using their hands, feet, frying pans, knives, you name it, to kill someone. People kill people, not objects. It is a very good point. Thank ya.

Glad to hear that all turned out well for you and your wife

I would venture to guess though that your wife will be working in a very secured environment for the next couple of months anyway

I can tell you one thing, for sure. It's not easy to be a known second amendment advocate today. My IM has been going off like crazy all day long. I'm not ready to change my mind on the basis of this one event. It's a tregedy, and we should all wait to see what the police have to tell us when they actually have something to say.

I thought the gunman killed himself..
You all are talking like he is still up and about somewhere.

Because the police are not sure if there is a second gunman, or if the two incidents were related or not.

They are saying that there is a Person of Interest from the first scene who they have not taken into custody because they have nothing to charge him on.

This incident appears to have a familiar smell of what we witnessed in hollywood. Allegedly the 2 shooters involved in the hollywood shootout were robbing a bank but they never made an attempt to escape they just shot at police they did make a small attempt to flee but i was'nt fooled. It looks to me that they were martyrs or they were fall guys to the big picture. If anyone is familiar with the new world order which is associated with freemasonry it is easy to understand that they have made many attempts to disarm the world. Todays shooting in virginia amounted to 33 deaths 33 a masonic number the 2 may not be related in the recent shootings but I know that this incident will have influence on gun laws which is exactly what the new world order predicts. The hollywood shootings occured in hollywood and hollywood is the magic wond that tricks and decieves. I was once told that Merlin had a wand called hollywood which was made of hollow wood he used his wand to trick and decieve and surely enough they believed. I think guns are not a good thing but remember that police are not really our champion defenders and our military and government are not going to protect us they are planning to correct us most likely by force and to disarm us gives them the strenght to mistreat us.

Maybe but they wont kill over 30 people with them. The would get rushed as soon as they start their rampage.

All those other objects have legitimate uses while the guns only use is to kill or harm people.

An extremely sad and horrific event.

However, with the massive constant news media coverage of this, I can't help but wonder, how many young disturbed people out there who are watching this and using it as motive to plan a similar suicidal attack of their own.
