Yeah, let’s lose Crimea so the majority of the population there being millions of ethnic Russians getting exposed to AZOV.

Smart idea.

What about the 40% of the population that was not ethnic Russian and aligned with Ukraine when Russia invaded and took it over? Have you ever read up on Crimea's history? Very interesting read. It seems during the USSR the Russians decided that they were descendants of the Greeks and Crimea was their starting point, so the USSR made it into their own Mount Olympus and then removed all the indigenous people that had been living there for 1000s of years and made it 100% Russian.

Indeed, the Tatars or Tartars.

Crimean Tatars constituted the majority of Crimea's population from the time of ethnogenesis until the mid-19th century, and the largest ethnic population until the end of the 19th century. Russia attempted to purge Crimean Tatars through a combination of physical violence, intimidation, forced resettlement, and legalized forms of discrimination between 1783 and 1900. Between Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 1783 and 1800, somewhere between 100,000 and 300,000 Crimean Tatars emigrated. However, this did not result in the complete eradication of Crimean Tatar cultural elements (at least not under the Romanov dynasty; however, under the Soviets, the Crimean Tatars were almost completely driven from the Crimean peninsula). Almost immediately after retaking of Crimea from Axis forces, in May 1944, the USSR State Defense Committee ordered the deportation of all of the Crimean Tatars from Crimea, including the families of Crimean Tatars who had served in the Soviet Army. The deportees were transported in trains and boxcars to Central Asia, primarily to Uzbekistan. The Crimean Tatars lost 18 to 46 percent of their population as a result of the deportations.[14] Starting in 1967, a few were allowed to return and in 1989 the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union condemned the removal of Crimean Tatars from their motherland as inhumane and lawless, but only a tiny percent were able to return before the full right of return became policy in 1989.

The European Union and international indigenous groups do not dispute their status as an indigenous people and they have been officially recognized as an indigenous people of Ukraine as of 2014.The current Russian administration considers them a "national minority", but not an indigenous people, and continues to deny that they are titular people of Crimea, even though the Soviet Union considered them indigenous before their deportation and the subsequent dissolution of the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (Crimean ASSR). Today, Crimean Tatars constitute approximately 15% of the population of Crimea. There remains a Crimean Tatar diaspora in Turkey and Uzbekistan.

I wonder if Belarus have offered a neutral venue for a meeting between Shoigu and Prigozhin

I'm trying to picture them as Street Fighter characters now.

If Putin is looking for money he would be in there like swimwear on that Payforview deal.

Here is Zelensky in 2015 about Crimeas water shortage in a skit. Making fun of the people in Crimea suffering from water shortages when he was a “comedian”.

youtu.be...

Again, wherever this current Prigozhin BS goes, it’s more than likely Russia will come out more emboldened. And or a bigger escalation in the operation.

Would not be surprised if Duma goes completely on board supporting a much greater scale in the operation.

as well as a report that Prigoshin says no deal has been struck

Seems Prigozhin does a good enough job talking for himself. Don't know why anyone would trust any other source claiming to report on what he is deciding to do.

Furthermore, Wagner going back to their old bases would just mean their deaths. And don't know why, while he has the initiative, and the rats are fleeing the sinking ship, that he would stand down.

Wagner mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin has agreed to "stop" the movement of his troops who are advancing on the Russian capital, according to a statement carried by the Reuters news agency and attributed to the Belarussian president's office.

We will bring you more updates shortly.
www.bbc.co.uk...

I wonder if Belarus have offered a neutral venue for a meeting between Shoigu and Prigozhin , that was his stated aim for the move into Russia.

Doesn't that put Belarus in the position of "deal-maker"?

That would significantly lower Putin's status as the power-broker in Russian politics, wouldn't it?

I just can't see Putin "delegating" such authority to an outside player.

Very strange things going on!

Have to wonder if that's somehow going to change the fact that Putin called Prigozhin a mutineer?

Canny just wash off that sort of statement or claim.

Or even run it back without someone losing face by my guess.

"If you come at the king, you best not miss" springs to mind.

Somebodies days are numbered, hopefully both.

Unless a lot of the reporting we've been getting has been bull#, which wouldn't exactly be unprecedented.

Actually one of the main reasons, if not the main reason Russia invaded was to protect the Ethnic Russian Ukrainians in Donbass and other Eastern Ukrainian areas who the Ukrainian army, Ukrainian Azovs and Nazis had been attacking and slaughtering since 2014.

By that sort of logic, America should invade the UK to return Northern Ireland to the Irish.

Internal matters are not really the concern of other nations

That's not even CLOSE to same type of logic, not even close.

The same type of logic would be if Millions of American citizens or citizens with American parents/grandparents all lived in one area of Canada. Let's just say Alberta, Canada has 20 million citizens and 95% of them are American or atleast have American parents. In Alberta where all these Americans live, they live with all their American customs (I know Canadian and American customs are essentially the same but for argument sake), they haven't adopted into the Canadian culture. Groups of Canadian Nationalists don't like the Americans, they don't like that they won't drop their American customs, they don't like that they won't live the "Canadian way". The Canadian Nationalists while being backed by the Canadian government launch an attack on the Americans that all live together in Alberta. The Americans fight back but are overpowered by the Canadian army and Nationalists.

Since the USA IS next door to Canada they see that the Americans living in Canada are getting attacked and slaughtered.

You don't think the USA would send armed forces to Canada to protect all the millions of Americans living together in the same part of Canada??

Of course they would. The US sends armed forces across the world to protect a handful of Americans at American embassies, they would surely protect millions of Americans that are under attack.

Says who ?

Says Crimea.

Your thoughts on Zelensky in 2015 making fun of the citizens in Crimea suffering from water shortages when he was a “comedian”?

What's wrong with a Ukrainian comedian mocking the Russians, who stole Crimea, for having their water supply in Ukraine turned off?

You do realize there are Russian propagandists on tv or online who have been calling for the killing of every single Ukrainian.

As for this "Prigozhin BS", I think the word you are looking for is "coup".

I disagree, plenty of Americans associate with also being Irish, hence following your spurious way of thought, and the track record where the likes of "the troubles" are concerned they would be free to invade the UK to do something about it.

Again, other nations "Internal matters" are not really the concern of anybody else hence what transpired in Ukraine regarding separatists is really none of Russian concern.

Hard to believe this Yevgeny Prigozhin guy has to know he will be hunted down and killed not sure he would be good with that .

It's definitely a puzzle wrapped in an enigma, how Putin can say what he said and Prigozhin say what he said and now they are all BFF.

It's so bizarre, but it is Russia...

one of the podcast's theories mentioned Wagner and Prigozhin had a 20 billion ruble deal with Russia, that was reneged on, and that along with being shelled led to him going off half-cocked.

another theory mentioned it was all a ruse to help Putin root out who would abandon him if he was indeed threatened.

consensus though if he survives this he will be stronger than ever.

You'd be extremely naive to believe they would suddenly turn back now after what's happened.
