What happens in the pit, stays in the pit
I can troll the hell out of people. I was laughing my ass off because that dude was one of the loudest and when he got a taste of it he ran off and cried in his pillow. OMG.. that's going to be a running joke for a while now!

But we don't lose quite a few posters.
If the poster is prolific, it will seem more obvious to the board.
The posting ban is the interim state of that process.
Banning is almost always permanent.
Members sometimes return under a new account, and if they abide by the T&C, remain as would any member in good standing.
Sometimes, members do appeal, using CONTACT US. It doesn't happen all that often. Easier to come back as news, I guess.

Some of us might disagree with you on that. It looked pretty bad when others on that thread were getting their posts removed right and left while you continued on your self professed trolling spree. Then, it looks even worse when you look at that person's posting history and you see a comment that was made to that thread separated out, made into it's own thread dated December 31, 1969, and it leads to a forum homepage rather than the comment. Was that just another one of those "glitches" that you mentioned on page two of that thread and that you're working on to improve the site?
I didn't remove anyone's comments. We were in the pit. If another mod did it, the user would get a message from the mod who did it so he should know who did it and if he didn't share that info then that's lying by omission or if he did and said it was me that's just a flat out lie. And I have no idea what you're talking about or how that would happen. Got a link?

We're working on fixing up the site. I'm not sure what kind of grand plan you all think is going on in the background but there isn't. I spent what, 6 or 8 hours speaking to people about how they felt about the pit and managed to find a solution to keep it online but off the other pages. Had I not stepped in, it would have just been shut down.
What would you all be happy to hear? Because I can tell you whatever but it won't be true.
In regard to banning people, no one gets banned for a single post. There are some users with over 200 user complaints, off topic replies, posts removed / moved to the trash bin etc. etc. So while it may look like it was due to a single post, in reality there are a TON of warnings, waaay too many in my opinion.
Imagine you're a mod and you've had to warn someone over 200 times. At some point you're just going to go. "OK, I'm done dealing with you".
How difficult would it be to build a new site from the ground up? My kid went to school for programming 4 years. And has been programming for a couple years now. He can usually get a website up and running for a small business in a few hours and can charge thousands of dollars for it. I can't imagine this is much more difficult than the web pages he designs for companies. But I'm not that familiar with programming so I could be totally wrong.
ETA:
I remember the other night he was designing a web page and he said something like, hey dad see this webpage? You want to see it change to dark mode when you have dark mode enabled? He went into the coding and typed something in, it was less than a line. And then published it and boom, the webpage would change between normal and dark mode depending on how your system is set. I said, hey why don't more websites have this function if it is that easy to do? I know more and more websites do have it. And perhaps websites using old coding or programming languages aren't that easy to program.

Yes, there were mods in that thread removing posts. I only know the name of the mod that removed one of my posts for asking what happened to a previous poster that either closed his account during the discussion or was banned. I wouldn't know the name of the mod removing everyone else's posts on that thread. (By the way, at one time, we used to be able to tell who was "banned" and who wasn't on their profile.)
Moving on to the poster you were complaining about earlier, if you look at the first comment that he made to the thread about the Mud Pit Being Put on Hold, it shows that it's in it's own thread (with the same name) and authored back on December 31, 1969. When you click on that comment, it just leads you to the forum selection page and not the comment.

So, we're currently working on ways to incentivize that and also making sure people feel comfortable expressing themselves
put us on the blockchain.

Yes, there are a few of us users who have had side projects to preserve the data.
IMO very important.
Eliminating redirects and custom.css/php/js one thing at a time is slow and cumbersome, I don't envy ya, but it can be done without coding a whole new site and really, any issues left now are minor, so it's working, lol.
Though, there are some who would definitely contribute monetarily if that's the way it goes.

I will add though, it's a matter of class. There is no such thing as "hate speech" and "hate speech" is protected by the Supreme Court.. but I think people who come here should keep it classy. There are ways to get points across. Example.
"Drag Queen on the sex offender registry doing story hour at ___ Library. Here are the documents" vs "Fing F@ggot MFing p@dos want to bang your kids!"
So yea... quality standards is important.. it's a matter of self respect in my opinion.
You know, it's snip like this that makes me kinda like you Darko.
I mean, even though you're an admin, calling out someone for the sand in their vagina/mangina is all right in my book.

One thing I have noticed about it though, is when you pull up a thread by clicking the button to go to most recent post, the last post isn't aligned with the rest of the posts and is partially offscreen.
Same here. It's always been like that as far as I can remember. Here's a screenshot:
It's no big deal, refreshing the page fixes it. I think I'd probably miss this quirk if it were to be fixed.
