I will add though, it's a matter of class. There is no such thing as "hate speech" and "hate speech" is protected by the Supreme Court.. but I think people who come here should keep it classy. There are ways to get points across. Example.

"Drag Queen on the sex offender registry doing story hour at ___ Library. Here are the documents" vs "Fing F@ggot MFing p@dos want to bang your kids!"

So yea... quality standards is important.. it's a matter of self respect in my opinion.

You know, it's snip like this that makes me kinda like you Darko.

I mean, even though you're an admin, calling out someone for the sand in their vagina/mangina is all right in my book.

I didn't know about the policy written above but I can say with certainty that I would like to encourage more informational posts and articles from people. There is a brilliant community here and I'd really like to see more in-depth and researched posts and less opinions or complaining about the world in general. So, we're currently working on ways to incentivize that and also making sure people feel comfortable expressing themselves and their thoughts without being attacked. So... let me know your concerns! I'm a position where I can address them. Cheers!

You know how when you login (I'm usually on mobile so I don't know if it is the same on desktop i can check later) it says:

Well when I login, it ALWAYS says that there are no new topics, no private messages, no replies to my post, even when there have been new topics, replies and messages. Is that a problem with my browser or something with the site? Because at first I was missing replies to my posts and messages since I didn't have any notification of them, but now I just check repeatedly to see if anyone has replied or messaged me and that is not ideal, but I can live with it or maybe change browsers. I don't want to use Chrome though.

Same here- it never works on computer or phone. I have to manually click my messages/replies icon.

I think people were saying that function never worked. I'll look at it but I'll prob just wind up just removing that text all together. But.. who knows. Maybe I can fix it.

Now that I think of other strangeness in the forums formatting, there's one thing I recall happening occasionally. Although, I haven't come across it for a few years.

If someone used the italics tags in the last line of their post, that same formatting would continue henceforth in all the subsequent posts.

For the sake of science, let's see if it still does it.

You may need to run that test again. I think that was happening when people used italics tags and forgot to close them. If memory serves, the effect stopped at the bottom of the page.

We're working on fixing up the site. I'm not sure what kind of grand plan you all think is going on in the background but there isn't. I spent what, 6 or 8 hours speaking to people about how they felt about the pit and managed to find a solution to keep it online but off the other pages. Had I not stepped in, it would have just been shut down.

That's just it, plan or no plan, we've no idea.
When did you first discover ATS?

What would you all be happy to hear? Because I can tell you whatever but it won't be true.

Your answers and presence go a very long way and is appreciated. It builds trusts and settles confusion and supposition.

In regard to banning people, no one gets banned for a single post. There are some users with over 200 user complaints, off topic replies, posts removed / moved to the trash bin etc. etc. So while it may look like it was due to a single post, in reality there are a TON of warnings, waaay too many in my opinion.

I only speak for myself here but I'm of the opinion that sometimes there are double standards applied in instances where there is also an analog. Mods aren't perfect and aren't expected to be. Post removals, even thread removals happen and most all are justified. Bans however, those are permanent. We've lost some really good people, permanently.

Might I suggest an appeal process (as I noticed was done for a member recently) or something less than permanence?

Imagine you're a mod and you've had to warn someone over 200 times. At some point you're just going to go. "OK, I'm done dealing with you".

Perhaps but is this a single sided issue? Say a user who has had a long and productive history here has a bad day, week?

I think by the standard you laid out here, myself should probably be banned as well. Many times I've apologized to mods and some others I've tried to establish a dialog and reasoning for past transgressions to be met with nil.

Again, appreciate the time and dialog. It really does go a long way.

Those bad days and bad weeks do happen.
We issue Post Bans for just that reason, to work out the problem.
And sometimes a single post will push the envelop over the edge and we apply that Posting Ban.

We are also privy to a members posting history, including posts and threads that are removed.
And some long term members have a very long list of such mod actions.

It is rarely as it appears to the rest of the board.

I get that, and oh how you know I understand that.
Simply saying, all things being equal, that we would lose quite abit of posters.

Thus, perhaps an appeal process or time out bans instead of permanence?

Good points, Jin.

My complaint turned out to be misdirected and I went off on an uncalled for tangent, I now know it was technical issues.

But, the main complaint was about the technical issues and not knowing what the future held in store, if it would just keep degrading.

Those have been alleviated for me with Darko "coming out", so to speak. As I suspect it has with others too.

At least now we know someone is here to address issues and make technical changes if required.

ATS has a new Overlord. We've all been moaning about it not knowing who and what's going on. At least now we know and it seems good to me...

I concur though, you should probably be banned
hehe

But we don't lose quite a few posters.
If the poster is prolific, it will seem more obvious to the board.

The posting ban is the interim state of that process.

Banning is almost always permanent.
Members sometimes return under a new account, and if they abide by the T&C, remain as would any member in good standing.
Sometimes, members do appeal, using CONTACT US. It doesn't happen all that often. Easier to come back as news, I guess.

lol... like-minds brother! People get too pissy. But on the other hand, some people don't have thick skin and that's the balance I'm urging the staff to bring to the site. A comment here or there is cool but some people just go on and on and on attacking people and it's just like "enough already". But the worst is when new users get here and then several people are jumping all over them. When I first posted I was ready to just bounce because people were really rude but my wife was urging me to move past it because there are some really great people here. Hell, I don't know who it was.. maybe you, but someone decoded the ad banners in like 2 minutes and it took me like 10 minutes to make the damn things! I was like... respect, I will have to up my game now lol

But yea, we were talking about doing some ARG's and stuff like that like back in the day and getting a few sponsors on board to give out free products to winner. Survival supplies, supplements etc. etc. I think that would be cool for people to get free stuff for being clever, posting great content etc. etc. We just have to make it welcoming for people to want to join in and have fun. But I have to say, in the last coouple of days the board has been chill. I'm loving it.

It's funny, I got in trouble on a different site once for asking a dude if he needed a Midol and digital douche to clean the internet sand out of his mangina. Your comments just kinda ring close to home.

It's okay to disagree. My dad taught me that when I was a kid, I had 5 brothers. We were told to respect each other's opinions and learn from each other. On a website like this I've learned that most people if treated respectfully will reciprocate. Not all. And I've learned to ignore those if after 1 or 2 posts they continue their behavior.

The thing is there are a couple of people that would follow others around trolling and bullying them in every thread they would post, talking about off-topic lies. Those people were never dealt with and the person/s getting trolled were banned for reporting it.

It would be nice if there was a more impartial banning process. And even an ignore feature for those users who are allowed to get away with trolling others. While the person who points out the fact they are getting trolled gets banned for using the word "troll," on the persons trolling them all the while having to deal with far worse language and abuse from the posters trolling them. These are just observations from a neutral observer.

That sounds like a conclusion based on incomplete facts.
We don't ban people for reporting board issues.

How difficult would it be to build a new site from the ground up? My kid went to school for programming 4 years. And has been programming for a couple years now. He can usually get a website up and running for a small business in a few hours and can charge thousands of dollars for it. I can't imagine this is much more difficult than the web pages he designs for companies. But I'm not that familiar with programming so I could be totally wrong.

ETA:

I remember the other night he was designing a web page and he said something like, hey dad see this webpage? You want to see it change to dark mode when you have dark mode enabled? He went into the coding and typed something in, it was less than a line. And then published it and boom, the webpage would change between normal and dark mode depending on how your system is set. I said, hey why don't more websites have this function if it is that easy to do? I know more and more websites do have it. And perhaps websites using old coding or programming languages aren't that easy to program.
