See where it lands quarantine the balloon, if no one really owns up to flying, win, win for all.

You wouldn't want to disburse a biological agent in the stratosphere, UV would destroy it before it had a chance to reach ground level.

Furthermore, with either bio or chemical agents, you need a minimum concentration at ground level to be effective.

Deployed at too high an altitude (anything over 100 feet?), and not only would you need a huge amount to insure that ground level concentration was high enough to be useful, you'd be fighting the winds aloft further spreading, and thus diluting, your toxic agent - whatever it is.

They are claiming it came via the Aleutian Islands but this was after claiming it was Chinese

The upper-level winds east of the Rocky Mountains this week have been from NW to SE. If the Chinese balloon was releasing a toxin, or another virus upon the population, it would affect everyone from Montana to the Midwest, the East Coast.

Keep an eye on the population in that part of the country over the next few days. Hopefully, this really was only a "spy" balloon.

I would be seeking for information of new covid or monkey pox outbreaks in the next few weeks. If they all fall within a reasonable distance around where this balloon flew, then we know that this was either an attack by China or the WEF. Oh yeah let's not forget that meeting just finished.

Weirdly, I can see this administration actually allowing this type of thing to happen, but maybe it got caught in the act by people seeing the balloon. After all we have to comets in the sky right now, COMET ZTF and COMET 96P. Imagine if a massive die-off happened while these comets are in the sky? I bet more than a few would get all superstitious about comets being a sign of doom.

If it is flying at stratospheric altitudes, how would you propose to "take it down"?

No plane can fly high enough to shoot it based on a visual lock, and balloons don't have a heat signature for a missile to get an IR lock. And since a balloon is virtually transparent to radar, and can easily go electronically "dark",

What would we shoot "at" to bring down?

Probably a silly question but I know people are going to try it if they get the chance, so..

Could a bullet from a high powered rifle, like a sniper rifle travel that far and actually puncture the balloon or would it lose trajectory and get brought down to earth before it could reach the target?

If it were possible to sky dive from one of those, do you think anyone on Earth is crazy enough to do it? Even if you needed an oxygen mask apparatus to keep you alive until you fell far enough to be able to deploy your parachute.
