Russia is an empire though. It was never really a nation state, unless Muscovy or Novgorod in medieval times counts, maybe.

ATTENTION

I don't know how it is that people can't understand that opinions of each other are not the topic on ATS - EVER - but it's close to time to start issuing Posting Bans to those who ignore this.

Reaffirming Our Desire For Productive Political Debate (REVISED)

Everyone and I mean everyone is allowed to post here on topic and to do so without being called names or becoming the target of others' posts. Debate the topic and leave each other out of it.

The topic is Putin orders Russian army to observe 36-hour ceasefire.

These rules apply to all threads and if you want to engage in personal attacks there are other sites on the Internet where you can do that. Our goal is for ATS to be above that. For members here to post like mature adults.

And, as always...
Do not reply to this post.

"Let me explain...The entirety of the world...beyond the west...the vast majority of Earths population...view the west and especially the US as war mongers...whose foreign policy is dictated at the point of a sword..."

Which non Western Countries are supporting Russia in their war?

As far as I can tell, it's probably Iran and Bolivia.

China seems a bit lukewarm.

Ummm...every nation that didn't take part in the western sanction scheme...who is supporting them by robust trade...

Even Europe is quietly and tacitly supporting them with trade...matter of fact trade between Russia and Europe has quadrupled since the start of the conflict...

The Russian economy is faring far better than Europe as a whole and European countries individually...and...Your quaint lil isles are faring the worst of them all...

So there is that...

The Strategic Culture Foundation (SCF) is a Russian think tank based in Moscow that primarily publishes an online current affairs magazine of the same name. SCF is regarded as an arm of Russian state interests by the United States government.[1][2]

SCF has been characterized as a conservative, pro-Russian propaganda website by U.S. media[2] and others.[3]

SCF has a pattern of sharing articles with other Russia-controlled outlets such as Global Research, New Eastern Outlook, and SouthFront.

That's smashing but none of that changes the fact that the article you linked was from "The Strategic Culture Foundation" which is indeed a Russian think tank based in Moscow.

And why can't the articles all be "Russian propaganda" considering who publishes the articles?

Ever consider the fact that it may make sense to publish articles on other subjects?

Also do you have any sorts of actual evidence that the CIA orchestrated a coup in Ukraine back in 2014, as is stated in the article you linked?

That might be nice for a start, or are we simply to believe the ramblings of a Russian think tank?

The simplistic and deceitful Western-promoted narrative denies the facts of the eight-year build-up to the war starting from the CIA-backed coup in Kiev in 2014 and NATO’s weaponizing of the NeoNazi regime that seized power.

Poor Russian men. To die for what? Ukraine will still exist one way or another, many Russian men will not. Sick how they still use their men like we did in WW1......................

"Russia preparing to mobilise extra 500,000 conscripts, claims Ukraine
Kyiv’s deputy military intelligence chief says force will form part of new offensives over spring and summer

Ukraine’s military intelligence has claimed that Russia is set to order the mobilisation of as many as 500,000 conscripts in January in addition to the 300,000 it called up in October, in another apparent sign that Vladimir Putin has no intention of ending the war.

Vadym Skibitsky, Ukraine’s deputy military intelligence chief, said Ukraine believed the conscripts would be part of a string of Russian offensives over the spring and summer in the east and south of the country." www.theguardian.com...

Russia has had, by far, the largest drop in GDP of any OECD country.

I won't even bother asking for a source for your claim of trade quadrupling between Russia and Europe.

If you hate the West so much, have you not considered relocating to Russia?

Ummm...as a personal point...I don't actually practice hatred...I do however detest the governments of the west...

There are some who might enjoy the direction the western governments are attempting to force the world to travel...I however recognize their..."Progressivism"...as regression...it merely hearkens back to the failures of every democracy that ever existed...They all lay on the ash heap of history...every one...

This newest version is just more of the same...

That's why I appreciate what the Framers of the constitution attempted to build...a representative republic...
Still...even that didn't last long...

What we have now is a Military Junta posing in the flag of the Republic...

My plan is to be an Ex-pat...I haven't decided to where...but I doubt it would be Russia...I want a warmer climate...out from under these feet of snow...so no...I haven't thought of relocating to Russia...

Far as i understand the matter even when Russia was not being sanctioned up the yazoo for Putin's evil antics in Ukraine the likes of even Spain had a superior GDP.

Spain has a GDP per capita of $36,200 as of 2020, while in Russia, the GDP per capita is $26,500 as of 2020.

There are 7 individual NATO members with higher total GDP than Russia By capita the difference is even more stark.

In economic terms Russia brought a blunt tea spoon to a gun fight.

I think this time around it's Russia thats poked the wrong bear.

And that's from both an economic and militaristic standpoint.

Kind of like he expects to lose nearly enough half of the January conscripts by October, hence the replacements.

Or at least that is one way of interpreting such lunacy.

And given the state of the current Russian Federation troops, you have to wonder how Russia possibly expects to arm and equip 500,000 new troopers with the weapons, ammunition, and battlefield equipment, they will require to in anyway an effective fighting force.

Slightly leaning towards the west’s position isn’t a statement of their perfection. Nor does it absolve them of their past.

Russia isn’t without their imperialist history either. And I think many more died by their hands than that of the US. The USSR alone had tens of millions of deaths between their conquests and killing of their own, either with violence or disastrous policy which had widespread famine.

China is no saint either as we see with their own people. between Uyghurs in concentration camps and what they do to their own ethnic Hans under zero COVID. If that’s what they do to their own citizens, I’d hate to see them with projection (though I’ll admit we haven’t seen much of that from them other than contested areas).

And while I think this is an awful war that would have been better off being averted all together… The Ukrainians should have already lost, the fact they haven’t is a testament to the fact they want nothing to do with Russia.

For sure and the initial 300 thousand don't sound like they have the necessary kit to fight a modern war from what one reads. It's all going battle of the Somme style loads of casualties leaders sound like they don't give a monkey as long as the crazy war continues. Really feel for the young also old conscripts forced to do their duty Andy and really believe Putin will throw away another 10 million to at least try and take the new provinces or at least that will be the story. Crazy days
