The cold has finally broke here in the AK!

So be prepared for 5 days of winter coldness!!

10 above is so much better than 10 below (zero)!!

I bought some bird seed this morning so I can help them get thru this. It is really hard on them.

Just east of the lake effect zone in sw MI. We are good too go. 430 pm and no snow yet.

That is my luck to maam... Sherpa throw is ok for the body, but your hands have to work in the cold to type if you have a desk job.

I have on fingerless gloves. They work well enough. My fingertips are chilly, but I keep them off and on buried in the sherpa so they stay warm.

Just watched a vid from a friend driving in Grand rapids Mi. Nothing out of ordinary I'm in eastern Indiana temp is 37 Hum 91 Pres 2954 . Going into the attic to nail down some windows that get blown out (1890 Victorian) I''m sure there will be some Ice but It's not the Monster "Yet" they predicted

Like true Midwesterners my kids (adults) went for a walk around the block and said it wasn’t too bad.
When you have proper gear it really isn’t.

It looks like our place is bullseye for the Friday storm. Up to 2 foot of snow and 50+ MPH winds. So to get ready I started the generator in the motorhome. Tested the whole house generator. Put the blade on the tractor and gathered all my winter clothes in one spot. Now a couple of cases of beer and I'll be riding the storm out.

Chicago weathermen/weatherwomen on TV need to learn how to admit they screwed up. This guy on Channel 9 (WGN-TV) just said our snowfall total will be 2.5 inches...like it's what he's been saying all along. The same little turd had us at 12" on Monday and 6 inches just yesterday.

We had about 2" so far and now the wind kicked in about 5 PM EST.

Everything closing for the day and tomorrow.

Well, it's 4.30 p.m. here in Southern Illinois. The temperature has dropped 25 degrees F in the last four hours. (But it's still dropping pretty rapidly.) It started snowing about an hour ago, after three hours of rain, and the wind is gusting up to about 40 mph. I may have to forego that cup of ice-cold eggnog for a mug of hot chocolate instead. I just made another gallon batch of my hot chocolate mix yesterday, so I should be able to make it through Snowmageddon '22.

Our weather guy has been pretty consistent. He's always said hell was freezing over with lots of wind. He's also been honest that the models were cranking out tons of snow, but that he wasn't so sure they were right because given what he knew about the area and its historical patterns, that was going to be really hard to do with the setup he was seeing. Even a couple days ago, when the big weather prediction services were still saying we were getting as many as 8", he was like, "I don't feel good with the high side of this. I think it's safer to say 2 to 4" and probably on the low side of that."

-38 here and it looks like our heater has gone out. Again. This will be the third time in a month and a half. Tonight is going to be a cold one.

All I can say is EEEEK!!!!

THREE INCHES of snow, melted already at 9pm
thursday 12-22-22 currently raining 45 degrees F.
south central pennsylvania
1 hour of snow mixx forcast for friday 9am-10 am
then its over except for the cold

Where I am temps went down to -31 F, but not that much snow. Maybe about 1 feet or less of snow.

We went from 10-15" to 3" in NE WI. This was from 8am to 3pm.

They got the cold right but the snow was way off. Must be a tough job being in a profession that's always wrong.
