I’m getting a little concerned.
The schools just sent notice that there is no school tomorrow or Friday. They NEVER close schools here.
Then I heard from a government worker that our electric company is getting ready.
They are obviously expecting electricity to go out. Our internet provider sent a message to be ready for outages.
Those are things that have NEVER happened before. So what is going on? Are they being proactive? Is this storm really that much worse than any other blizzard. Keep in mind we are used to severe winter weather. I remember driving to a basketball game for my daughter in a blizzard, they refused to cancel it.
Is it due to lack of workers and they are trying to mitigate any problems that arise?

the chickens and ducks are not going to cooperate with us no matter what we do. Hopefully they'll make it through.
Got a chicken coop, I presume? Stick a heat lamp in there?
Ducks do pretty well in cold weather and snow and ice at least here in GA/Carolinas; their bodies are built differently than, say, chickens. My ducks did fine down in the 20s, and there's this account on YT I follow and that dude raises ducks in the northeast.
Just hope the heat lamp keeps the well lines from freezing.

Even when we got shut down for 9 days during 2 back to back winter storms in Feb 2021, we never lost power.
Yeah, that's the way it goes. You kinda want to try out your safety equipment in a real world situation, but not too much, if you know what I mean. I haven't had to light up the candles and hurricane lamps here for about 10-15 years. When my young teenage neighbor saw my house lit up when the rest of the block was black, she came over and admired all my candles. That made me feel good that they were working that well!
I know exactly what you mean. Question.... What kind of candles do you have that provide so much light? I don't get my generator cranked up if we're only going to be without power for a few hours, so I use candles but when I pull the candles out, all I have are the candles my wife purchased from Bed Bath & Body Works, Victoria's Secret, etc., meant for smelling good, not light. I need some meant for light, not a brothel.

We have all those around here as well, but we also have a dog. A big dog... pit bull. She has a growl that'll send chills up the Devil's own spine! Sweet-tempered dog, just don't be a critter in her yard.
We lost one, not sure to what. The flock wandered up too far in the mountain and something got one; a friend was scouting and found the pile of feathers. Lesson learned, though; they stay closer to the yard now. I eventually want to get some more turkeys... no good for eggs, but they are great protectors and will flock with the chickens.
My biggest concern is coyotes. There are some close enough to hear, but so far they have stayed away from my flock. The dog might have something to do with that... a pit bull is one of the few breeds that can stand toe-to-toe with a pack of coyotes and have a decent chance of winning.

It's not that each candle itself puts out much light, it's that I have a lot of wall sconces and regular candle holders and there are 18 candles located around my dining room and living room. Together, they really light up this place. And if I should light up a hurrican lamp or two, I can see quite well in here. It's like something out of one of those Gothic Romances. Mind you, I've only heard about them - I don't actually read them....!

So here I am at work. Visibility was unpredictable driving in and there were random slick spots on the roads. Now that I am here, we have cold air rolling in off my windows and cold air dumping in through the vent. I layered against road trouble and it's still cold. They gave us all sherpa throws for Christmas and I have mine out to use in the office.

We aren't allowed to bring in our own heaters. Security has about 10 they loan out, but they were all taken by the time I got in.
