Cardinal George Pell, a conservative theologian who served as Pope Francis’ Vatican finance chief, and who was acquitted after becoming the most senior Catholic cleric to be convicted of sexually assaulting children, died Tuesday in Rome. He was 81.
His death was confirmed by Peter Comensoli, one of his successors as Melbourne archbishop, who said the cardinal died of heart complications after undergoing hip surgery. Cardinal Pell had been in Rome to attend Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s funeral last week.
Cardinal Pell spent more than a year in solitary confinement in his native Australia after a jury found him guilty in 2018 of assaulting two teenage choirboys in a Melbourne cathedral while he was the city’s archbishop in the 1990s. His conviction was overturned by a top Australian court in 2020.
The Pope told Vatican staff to beware the 'elegant demon' that lurks in self-righteous Catholics in his traditional Christmas speech.
Francis used his annual Christmas greeting to the Roman Curia to again put the cardinals, bishops and priests who work in the Holy See on notice that they are particularly vulnerable to evil.

I think it’s the “elegant devil” that gives the “flowers”, meaning a temptation. Since we’ve seen how they like to corrupt /change the meaning of words , it’s quite possible the “flowers” are kids they can de-flower.

Now after days of examining the potentially lethal material, investigators are working to find everyone connected to the contaminated cargo.

This is the 3rd X-flare in a week, and each flare has come from a different sunspot. It's not just a single active region; the *whole sun* is becoming more active. NOAA forecasters say there is a 30% chance of another X-flare on Jan. 11th.
