16 October Update

Key inflections in ongoing military operations on October 16:

* Several Russian sources reported renewed Ukrainian assaults in the Kherson direction and Ukrainian sources reported higher-than-average numbers of daily shelling and missile strikes, but Ukrainian forces are maintaining operational silence about any operations.

* Ukrainian military officials stated on October 16 that Russian forces are falsely claiming to have captured several towns near Bakhmut in the past several days, but Ukrainian forces have held their lines against Russian attacks. Russian forces are likely falsifying claims of advances in the Bakhmut area to portray themselves as making gains in at least one sector amid continuing losses in northeast and southern Ukraine.

* Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate announced a $100,000 bounty for the capture of prominent Russian milblogger and former proxy commander Igor Girkin and confirmed his presence in Ukraine, stating “it is known that one of the most famous Russian terrorists has decided to renew his participation in the war against our state.”

* Russian and Belarusian sources continued to report Russian men and material entering Belarus.

* Ukrainian sources reported Russian occupation officials in Kherson City are stepping up filtration measures against Ukrainian partisans and accelerating efforts to evacuate key materials and personnel from Kherson to Crimea.

* Unknown assailants attacked a military commissariat in the suburbs of Moscow with a Molotov cocktail on October 16.

* Local Russian authorities in Krasnodar Krai reportedly intend to mobilize 1,000 more people by December 2022 and discussed proposals to redirect funding from entertainment events so supply mobilized personnel, seemingly contradicting Putin’s announcement that mobilization will conclude by the end of October 2022.

* Poor medical care in both frontline and rear-area Russian units is exacerbating already dire morale problems.

It's hard to imagine how Russian propaganda can put a positive spin on murdering that conductor for refusing to perform under occupation. But maybe they can use some kind of Russian reversal again like they did with the annexation via sham referendums. Now Russia can say "We're not invading you, Ukraine, you're invading us" when Ukraine is simply trying to get their own territory back in the annexed territories.

We also get a clue to what would happen to people who voted the wrong way at gunpoint in those sham referendums, when we see how the Russians treat people who don't cooperate.

I'm still trying to figure out which side the "War in Ukraine" youtube channel is on. Lately he has been talking about how much the Ukrainan soldiers failed for not chasing the retreating Russian soldiers as they retreated, and now they have allowed the Russians to build strong defenses at their leisure, so the Ukrainians will have much heavier losses when they finally attack, as a result, or so he claims. That might be somewhat true, but still sounds like Russian propaganda to say the Ukraine soldiers suck, after they have re-captured so much territory. But then he says the Russian soldiers suck even more, which doesn't sound like Russian propaganda, so he's been all over the place. He seems to think both sides need a lot more training and better strategies. He seems like a pretty smart fellow though who not only seems to understand military strategy but also economics, which he comments on frequently. Here's his latest video:

Watching something earlier on the bombing of the Kerch Bridge a week ago. Now thought to have been a barge-like vessel that was probably remotely controlled, rather than a bomb in a lorry.

Clearly, what the Russia's forgot to install was submarine nets and a boom, or two.

There are lots of theories, but it appears the FSB's image of the alleged truck bomb was poorly faked as it was missing an axle.

Still, the evidence we do have seems to show more damage topside, than on the underside of the roadway, making an attack from the bottom side (like a water based attack) unlikely, at least not something that blew up under the bridge. Now if some kind of sub pulled alongside the bridge and lobbed a big enough explosive above the roadway, a water source could be claimed, but again that seems unlikely because the amount of explosives had to be huge to create that much damage, and lobbing that much weight up above the bridge wouldn't be easy. That's also the problem with the missile theory, the warheads are usually not big enough to create that much damage.

This video discusses some of the different theories for what caused the damage and explains why some theories seem to be unlikely:

Aircraft has crashed into residential building in Russian city of Yeysk - Tass cites eyewitnesses www.jpost.com...

First though on seeing this was Kamikazee suicide mission by Ukraine seeking revenge for civilian attacks by Russia. Maybe the crash is just accident

"The Russian Defense Ministry announced that a SU-34 aircraft had crashed into a residential building in the southern Russian city of Yeysk on Monday during a training flight from their military airfield.

Unconfirmed footage on social media showed a large fireball erupting from what appeared to be a multi-story building."

The article quoted mentions the crew ejected, so it doesn't sound deliberate.

I am betting the only thing we hear about that from the Russian media is that it was an accident.
Your link said the pilot ejected, but didn't say if he was picked up by authorities.

Here is a vid of one of the Iranian drones being shot down recently-
old.reddit.com...

According to Ukraine, they are shooting down 70-80% of that type of drone-but even that doesn't always stop damage and death on the ground.
Also, the Shahed drones are alledgedly monitored/operated by members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who are/were in occupied Ukraine-

Personnel connected to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have traveled to Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine to train Russian forces on how to use the Iranian drones they’ve purchased, according to the Ukrainian government.
The Iranians have spent time in the occupied region of Kherson and Crimea, which is where they instruct Russian forces on how to use the Shahed 136 kamikaze drone. The government said the Iranians “directly monitor the launch of drones.”

www.msn.com...

The IRGC are designated as a terrorist organisation by the US government..
Which fits in this case if they are indeed on the ground showing the Russians how to bomb civilian areas with their drones.

Here is a few angles of the aftermath-sounds like some big secondary explosions going off-could the jet have been carrying bombs/rockets maybe?

"The Government has already # its pants"...

Kinda heated panel in this one, I think they've fully cracked finally... let it all spill out.

I like how the RT hag says the rich should sponsor the gear of 100 mobilized soldiers, yet thats what alot of the west has been doing (not just the rich) for Ukraine the since the invasion started... id ask her, so who've you sponsored lady? given her social position and income. Their soldiers shouldn't have to be sponsored by civilians, but its funny that they've only just figured out they can help out (although the reason they are now thinking/demanding of helping out is because their loosing, not because they think its the right thing to do).

Ukraine is doing so well, they deployed 1000 AQ/Daesh fighters at $1000 a month

Do you honestly believe the most passionate, extremist Islamic terrorists are prepared to fight for what they perceive to be a Jewish regime?

Do I really have to point out the inherent connection between Nazis and Islamists? Really?

No, not at all.....just another parallel between Putin and Hitler.

But you could try to point out the 'inherent connection' between Jews and 'Islamists'.

Looks like Russia's new military leader in the Ukraine war is attempting to shut down the utilities. If you can't beat them on the battlefield, looks like plan B is freeze them to death..................

"Nearly a third of Ukraine’s power stations have been destroyed by Russian drone and missile attacks in the past eight days, Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said, as more energy and water sites were hit across the country overnight.

Ukraine’s president accused Russia of engaging in “terrorist attacks” affecting a significant proportion of the country’s critical infrastructure and wreaking havoc on electricity and other utility supplies." www.theguardian.com...
