Mate, all it took was the passing of the generation that last experienced the horrors.

I don't grasp why this is. I am a child of people who experienced World War II in Europe. They did a good job of impressing upon me what a terrible time it was. Certainly, Putin, growing up, must have heard something besides the "glorious USSR" propaganda in Russia.

Or maybe he did and just doesn't care.

Cheers

spent lazy Sunday mornings in legion with my grandfather and his service mates he only spoke of his time once, REME and his job in the dessert was to fix the hit tanks and get them back into the fray, the descriptions of the mush that comes out after a hit where disgusting, he came back and went from lawyer to night porter.

but we have those who do know better running the world.... I sometimes think they're just hoping no one notices or believe it can't happen again.. I've a feeling we're all going to relearn those lessons.

IMO the (in-person) audience members who watched Putin's latest speech are the historical ghosts of the people who failed to act against Hitler. However, I think it worth noting how any coup attempt against Putin would involve elements of the Russian intel and armed forces communities. The low percentage of people from those backgrounds, who participate in the plot, would face an extremely tough task.

But the risk of Putin facing a coup remains low. So the fall of his regime is more likely tied to Russia's military defeat in Ukraine. Putin's backers won't accept that kind of failure, and the Russian economy will ground to a halt. Relating to mobilisation, the inability to understand the requirement for reserved occupations is glaring. Removing miners and other skilled workers from their civilian careers will harm Russia more than international sanctions.

Unlike China, Russia never paid attention to the supply of PC hardware and specialised military equipment. But taking workers away from the factories and farms ends related assembly lines or food production.

The conscript's family gets a sheep though, doesn't that help with 'food production'?

Not a situation that gives one a warm feeling, is it ?

The sound of jackboots are echoing from the dusty corridors of history.

I just watched suchomimus video of Ukrainian flag raising in Lyman.

It appears that the russians left no rear guard when the 5th combined arms army snuck out of the city last night.

At least one of the 3 escaping convoys was obliterated, another abandoned it's vehicles and fled on foot, and no word on the 3rd yet.

Note: zero 'mercenaries' were found in Lyman, only the 5th combined arms army.

They seem to be ahead of schedule, or at least i expected it will take litle more time to be in Lyman .

It must be chaotic event when they tryed left there. Wikipedia says :

In the disastrous first months of Barbarossa, the 5th Army was encircled and destroyed around Kiev.

5th Combined Arms Army

Look`s like they should not enter Ukraine at all if they get encircled allways .

It is not clear to me which Russian units were actually deployed in Lyman.

This map shows various elements; a couple of regiments and a brigade of some kind. Not much more than a division in theory, probably a few burnt out battalions in reality.

Something is happening in Crimea, not sure what ...

The claim by Russian-appointed Governor of Sevastopol is that a plane overshot runway. If it did, it seems then have run into an arms dump

Russian sources are claiming a plane skidded off the runway.

Belbek Crimea

Have they been smoking again there ?
