M777 is short range artillery. Very vulnerable to drone + long range artillery combo. Iskander, even Tornado-S is very deadly to M777.

Russians captured M777 in Lisichansk. They say they took the digital ballistic calculator and is studying it.

Your wrong see the tornado is a downgraded BM-30 Smerch. They made it lighter and easier to load but use the same rockets and cant fire as many. It has 6 launch tubes as opposed to the original having 12. So it has half the firepower of the older model. It typically fires the standard rocket which is 7.6 m long and weighs 800 kg. The maximum range of fire is 70 km with ordinary and 90 km with extended-range rockets, The Bm-30 is far more lethal just nowhere near as mobile. Its max range is a missile attachment it can only fire one. and yes its 300km range but himars have the same capabilities but no one has launched missiles yet mostly because the US refuses to give them to Ukraine and Russia has such a limited number and there is no advantage for them to use them they have cheaper options.

Tornado-S is much more combat effective than Smerch. The GLONASS guided round has range 120 (early version) to 200 (late version) km, highly accurate, and has digital fire control and automatic fire laying.

Iskander is not artillery its ballistic missiles. And only a moron stays in place after firing a 777. they should scatter in different directions.

Anyway Excalibur has a range of approximately 40 to 57 kilometers (25 to 35 mi) depending on configuration, with a circular error probable (CEP) of 4 m.The extended range is achieved through the use of folding glide fins, which allow the projectile to glide from the top of a ballistic arc towards the target.

Yes its lesser range, but thats because its not a tactical ballistic missile. When you can get GPS jammed or turned off for russians it helps.

Considering Ukraine only has low dozens M777 (many of the ones supplied already destroyed or captured), Russians can afford to use Iskander on M777, especially the R-500 cruise missiles which has more range but less payload than the ballistic missiles. In theory, the US can supply up to a few hundred M777, which is every single M777 the US has in inventory.

These helicopter launched NLOS missiles is seriously taking a toll on Ukrainian warehouses. Helicopters fly too low for ground based radars to pick up, and NLOS missiles enable helicopters to attack from dozens of km away, some say as much as up to 100 km away with Hermes missiles. And it doesn't seem like Ukrainian air defense can deal with NLOS missiles.

17 July update

Key Takeaways

* Russian forces continued a measured return from the operational pause and did not make any confirmed territorial gains on July 17.

* Russian forces continued limited ground assaults around Siversk, Bakhmut, and Donetsk City and otherwise fired at civilian and military infrastructure throughout the Donbas.

* Russian forces focused on defensive operations north of Kharkiv City and along the Southern Axis.

* The Kremlin may be setting long-term conditions for force generation efforts in anticipation of protracted hostilities in Ukraine.

* Russian occupation authorities are likely using the threat of partisan activities to justify harsher societal controls in occupied areas.

Actually Ukraine was estimated to have approximately 1800 howitzers, most older Soviet designs. They have lost some, but have probably captured more than they have lost. Earlier in the war, Ukraine received a substantial number of additional Soviet systems most of which had been at least somewhat upgraded by the East European NATO allies. Now, more modern howitzers are beginning to arrive from the US and other NATO countries. I am unable to find a detailed answer to your question, which is not surprising given that Ukraine rightfully treats such information as military secrets. But somewhere between 2200 and 2500 seems a reasonable ballpark guess.

And the us has over 1000 M-777 in use in all branches that deal with arty.

Crimea is well supplied by heavy airlifters and ships. Temporarily knocking out the Kerch bridge for a week or two before it's repaired does little to hamper supply.

It's more a symbolic victory, like turning the Moskava into a sub.

Time is ticking before seasonal autumn rains and mud return to Ukraine. However, if Putin or his senior military commanders display their usual military incompetence, they might not wait until the snow-covered ground permits a greater degree of manoeuvrability. Subject to logistical support, vehicles with off-road capabilities could travel across snow compared to getting bogged in muddy conditions.

Also, Russian vehicle movements confined to the roads by mud in spring and autumn are more prone to ambush, air strikes and artillery fires, something they discovered the hard way earlier in the year.

Moreover, if the Russian Army's logistical capabilities relating to winter clothing are akin to their fuel supplies, then their soldiers are ill-prepared for their first entire Ukrainian winter. Ironically, the same winter weather that aided the defenders concerning Napoleon and Hitler's invasions of Ukraine might do the same for the Ukrainians.

Action may shift to the south. In the spring, at least, the south of Ukraine seemed to have less rain than other areas.

I also don't anticipate the Russian military getting their act together.
