(So grandparents can't see grand kids over Christmas basically)

So basically; you can't have grandparents round for Christmas but the whole family can meet up in church...

I had to laugh yesterday at the covid head-fookery going on.

The elderly are the first to get the vaccine. But if they start dropping dead afterwards we aren't to blame the vaccine, because they are all very vulnerable to begin with. If they die it will be because they're old and would have died anyway even without the vax.

However, if these same elderly and vulnerable contract covid and die, it's covid that killed them. Nothing to do with their vulnerable health condition and nothing to do with their old age.

Some crazy logic going on.

Because the "authorities" have not a clue on how to handle this challenge. Thus they defer decision making to unelected 'experts' (whose expertise may well be dubious) and society is run in one stupid circle after the next.

Some say there is a distinction between 'The Insurrection Act' and full 'Martial Law'.
TIA is part of ML...put doesn't put us into full Martial Law.
POTUS Lincoln used The Insurrection Act for election interference.

Re: bridges ready for detonation

Don't know about explosive materials already being emplaced.

In Cold War (West) Germany, highway bridges (and IIRC some easily blocked spots on roads) were made with access points where covers could be removed to reveal a hollow cavity underneath. The purpose of the cavity was to hold explosive material in wartime that could be detonated to drop a bridge or block a road -- the idea being to slow the pace of a Soviet armored attack. The West German military reserves included a technical corps of sorts whose functions included this kind of action, among many other things that were meant to deny the Soviets any use of captured infrastructure during a war with NATO.

Our fine ultra-liberal friends in W Germany back then included many who were agents of the Soviets, and they on occasion accessed the bridge cavities and filled them with cement so that the bridges could not be quickly dropped in the event of war. One of the forgotten details of a conflict that was hotter than many think.
