Odd obelisk found in Utah????

I spent alot time out in MOAB off-roading several years ago and can attest to rough terrain and navigating deep sand and lots of tires and break-downs. That metal monolith reminds me of geocaching back in the early 2000s but this seems like a geo survey marker of some kind. Even more bizarre is nobody has figured this out, purpose or come forward. Really??

Craziest thing about this is we know this thing has been there for four years now but no one found it until NOW! It reminds me of that double rainbow guy Paul “Bear" Vasquez... What does it MEAN?! Anyone else besides us seeing these double rainbows? Just a few days ago there was one right in our backyard that looked even more amazing than the one in Bears video...

Looks like 301 or 304 Stainless Steel Alloy.

There's one notable person using this alloy in construction. Might be a test for mars. Landscape is similar. Disregard if this theory has already been posted.

Nah, the ground wouldn't look liken that if it's the case and the chances of it landing like this, perfectly straight, it seems, on all sides? It just wouldn't happen.

Land of Lost , a kids tv show on Saturday morning is the basic source for these metal monoliths/obelisks

You actually make a good point. If they cut the sandstone down just far enough to make it look like it was recessed, and then just used some lag anchors drilled into the sandstone and bolted the structure down to the lag anchors, that would be just as rigid as burying it in the ground. 2-3 Hilti type lag anchors would do it.

Well, what the rivets tell me is, the metal is just a cladding over some other substrate, likely wood.

Looking at the maps, I'd say that is right in the neighborhood for this object.
