Wasn't sure where to put this, but looks to be man-made but appears to have been where it is for a while, yet very clean.

They say it is 12 feet or so out of the ground. I would love to find out how much is below ground.

Anyone seen this before or know what it is?

It's a story as old as time. You're in a helicopter flying over a remote region of southern Utah while counting bighorn sheep, when suddenly you spot an unexplained monolith sticking up out of the ground. Cue the 2001: A Space Odyssey theme music.
Utah NBC affiliate KSL TV reported the unusual find on Saturday, sharing footage taken by the crew of a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter that was assisting the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources in a sheep count.

WOW!

That looks just like the monolith in the movie. A little fatter but good gracious, I hope it's not an omen

Maybe it's fake. But one wonders how they would -jackhammer that in the hard ground

So they won't say where it is because the helicopter crew said they wouldn't want someone to get stuck. That would suggest it is fairly hard to get to.

The obelisks appearance would suggest a fairly high skill level, depending on how long it has been there and how deep it is buried. It had to have taken a few or more people to have built there based on size alone.

Would love to know more about this and why it was here.

Holy shamoly! Is that thing real? Would love to see something to take our minds off of the other craziness going around now.

I am sure it is man-made....just unsure of why or how. I added a pic of the obelisk and you can clearly see the connection rivets or whatever, but they have been sanded/ground down to flush.

Whomever built this spent a LOT of time on it and appears to be very technically savvy.....

Looks like stainless steel, pretty expensive, looks like a bar top.

Hope they didn't bury anyone.

Maybe it is there to align global positioning satelites or something. In a stable area where there would be little chance of it getting covered with sand. Or maybe it has been there for a million years and the sand being sucked out is exposing it.

I am wondering who or what put it there, seems like someone doing this for an artistic venture would be very expensive. I hope we hear more about this in the future.

I wonder what they're going to do with it?
Send out scientists?

One thing is for sure, if they reveal where it is, it will become a shrine!

Perhaps removed from someone's now defunct Restaurant.

Someone definitely put it there but it's a unique choice with the water source behind it and down in the rocks...maybe it's like a new georgia guide stone type thing

I bet theres a secret message on it somewhere-someone should scan it with different lights-UV Blacklight/Infra red.

I also bet others will be found and it will turn into a real mystery.

Didn't notice the water feature behind it, glad you said that! It is beautifully placed and looks really nice there, and I was going to say, but its really out of the way! However, I'm sure they figured it would be found at some point, like it did. Let's hope it really is art or if not, something lovely!

Sheep eat grass.

Also. why would DPS officers want to count sheep?

More than one mystery here.

Why?

Either way, it appears to have been there a while, unless it is just sitting on top of the dirt. If buried, there is no disturbance around the base which suggests it has been there a bit.

Judging from the one photo, it looks like brushed stainless to me. Maybe a helichoptor was carrying it dangling underneath, the cable snapped, and it stuck in the ground like a dart.

I also want to know more on the story, such as why they were flying the area in the first place.

If this thing is actually buried, and if it is deep, I would really wonder how long it was there.

I dont think even a solid piece of the heaviest steel could stick in the ground like that. Doesn't even appear to have disturbed the dirt around it.

It is either resting on top or was buried a while back and remnants were taken out.....too clean to be natural.
