Well, I guess I heard a little different. What I hear the pilot say is essentially the following.
- It is located on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land which is public land
- They observed pretty obvious saw cuts in the ground where the sandstone was cut to place the object
- The object looked man made with "pop rivets" holding it together.
- He indicated there were no markings or writing on the object.
- He didn't believe the object fell from the sky, as reported by some locals, because of the saw cut marks and over-cuts.
- They did feel the object was pretty firmly planted in the ground.
- He had no knowledge of the BLM, SAR or the Military attempting to remove it
- He did feel the BLM would likely remove the object because they don't want others doing the same thing.
- He also stated BLM likely wants to remove it because it is defacing the landscape. (which sounds like the BLM)
- The only Military restricted areas are 25 miles away from this area, and are old decommissioned missile testing sites.
That was pretty much the bulk of it.
I guess the most notable part of the interview for me is his statement about "saw marks in the sandstone". In the Google Earth images we've been
looking at today, there was clearly sagebrush growing in the area where the object is now. If the object was cut into sandstone, sagebrush growing in
this area would not be possible. And, my assessment of the wash bottom was that it was sand, which I would expect (at least a couple feet of it
anyway). This surprises me.
I've been up and down those washes thousands of times, and they're always filled with sand from sluffing off the rocks above. Yes, the sand can wash
out, but only in really high flood areas. And sagebrush would never grow in such an area. I am not suggesting he's not telling the truth, but now
I'm wondering if we really are looking at the correct location on Google Earth, as another member seemed to suggest earlier. Could there possibly be
more than one? The rock formations looked identical initially, but now upon closer examination, there are some subtle potential differences (which
could be sun and photo angles, but still).
If the object was cut into sandstone, as he suggests, I am even more impressed with the installers than I was initially. That would not be an easy
task at all!
