Australian Update

We are now at 298

That's a rise of just less than 50 since yesterday. Only 6 of these additional cases are by known transmission. Everybody else has arrived from overseas.

Yet we are apparently in a crisis.

Economically, we are. the 1919 flu (in my opinion) was a big cause for the Depression. We might experience something similar!

There's 1000's infected walking around amongst us, the government knows this (finally)

I go back to the table in my opening post.. every day we allow packed trains, bars, cafe's to operate is another day of exponential growth at the other end. Shut it all down NOW Scomo!

Hi. Did a search, found this Source in english, google translate:

Bolivia: 11 confirmed cases. They declared national emergency this week.

They prohibit any kind of concentration involving more than 100 people, discos, parties, bars, cinemas, sporting events, gyms, amusement parks and nightly activities. The public and private sector will work continuously.

Starting March 18th the borders will be closed for passengers from Europe and Iran*, Bolivians citizens can enter and will be treated by the protocols stated by the W.H.O... *In the video in the page, she says this about flights: No flights from Europe. No passengers from China, South Korea, Italy and Spain.

The situation might change tomorrow, the president will have a meeting with her cabinet to analyze the situation.

She also eliminated tariffs for medicines that can help treatment against the virus.

Hope it helps!

Hi everyone, Argentina updates here:

Kindergarten, primary and secondary schools to be suspended until March 31; Argentina's borders to be closed to all non-residents effective immediately; Number of confirmed cases rises to 56.

The President explained that

"We have closed the borders of Argentina because the coronavirus is beginning to affect neighbouring countries and because tourists who come from risk areas arrive at land borders,"

sporting events and music shows would also be suspended. Cinemas and theatre, as well as national parks across the country, will be obliged to be closed.

banks and health centres would start offering time periods reserved exclusively for those over the age of 65, to avoid contagion.

Despite speculation – prompted by comments from the president during radio interviews – that the government would seek to put all Argentines under quarantine for 10 days, obliging them to stay at home, Fernández said that was not on the cards for now.

Scary times indeed.

PD: the majority of universities -if no all- are closing too.

"But to be clear, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes that the coronavirus is spread from person to person mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person sneezes or coughs in close proximity to someone else, not via food consumption."

www.goodhousekeeping.com...

You do realize that if an infected person coughs or sneezes droplets on their hands, and their hands in turn turn a door knob, you then turn that same door knob, and touch your mouth or nose, you can be exposed and are at risk of infection right?
Now subtract that door knob and replace it with cheeseburger
Being a cheeseburger doesn’t make those droplets evaporate
I think you are caught up on semantics and thinking food transmission only means a certain thing

TPTB knew this the day the first case arrived on our shores. You leave people indoors by themselves and the bug will burn itself right out.

Easy as herding cats. The commoner doesn't have 60 days of food in their pantry. The commoner doesn't have a couple months worth of income saved up. The commoner won't listen to anything he doesn't believe (and nobody believes in anything anymore). Ad nauseam.

My day-job employer (in Southern California) on Friday finally started talking about letting people voluntarily work remotely from home.

That was supposed to start Monday. It's a dot-com business. So, most of what people do is on the computer all day anyway.

Over the weekend, they changed their minds, and started telling people to work from home, basically until further notice.

Since, nearly out entire workforce (about 350 user's) is all laptops, it should be easier than some organizations.

Peru 71 confirmed cases Source in english, by Google Translate

Declared State of National Emergency. They closed all their borders and confinement of the entire population for 15 days.

The government assured that "these measures do not contemplate the closure of basic commercial establishments", such as pharmacies, banks or food stores.

Only people who need access to essential goods can go out into the streets , Vizcarra emphasized.

The government also suspended public and private sector activities starting Monday.

The armed and police forces will be responsible for enforcing restrictions on population mobility, which is estimated at 32 million.

Smart move. Unfortunately Americans are going to be reluctant to quarantine. This in my opinion will spike the rise of infected people to unmanageable levels. This in turn will raise the mortality rate when people cannot get the medical attention they need due to an overburdened health system.

Yes. Almost every country in Latin America has closed their borders, partially or completely. Chile hasn't though... I think that in the USA, most will follow quarantine, that's my perception anyways.

HOWEVER, I think it has been all done in the wrong way, globally speaking. All the countries should have agreed to close all borders at THE SAME TIME for the same period of time, at least 30 days IMHO. And after these days have passed, extend closer to the countries that still have grave problems with the virus. This with a quarantine to the whole population (just like it is being done) and an "economic freeze" would have been the best option IMHO.

(read this only if you are interested, not an update, it might explain why Chile hasn't closed the borders)

I SUSPECT this is because the "president" is thinking about his and his friends pockets in the short term. You see, he has stock in a lot of enterprises, one of them is LATAM, the biggest airline over here. You wouldn't believe me what he has done in name of his and his friends pockets in Chile. I'l tell just one: The 7 richest families took over the Chilean ocean and prohibited the artisanal fishermen and small companies to fish in the best areas, only the 7 families could fish in the best zones. (They did this with a law called "La Ley de Pesca" or "Ley Longueira" in 2012 (source in english, google translate), it has now been modified, but it is still unfair Source in english, google translate) ...

Have a feeling Canada here is going to go full lockdown any time now, as in borders between the U.S and possibly Provincially.

Also heard that a patient in our main hospital approx in his 40’s and otherwise healthy diagnosed with Covid-19 deteriorated rapidly needing a respirator. Meaning being under 65 years of age doesn’t give you a freebie.

Buckle up people!

My goodness...

We have 355 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in California.

That's 0.003 of our population. Seriously.

Just stop. This is mass hysteria on a macro basis.
