Old, rich people, who are most likely to die from this, holding the chips?

At least there is some form of meager justice and self determination for people left in this world.

I mean. old 'poor' people are also going to die in droves, so in essence, this 'virus' is not a class-specific experience anyway.

Yeah, so all the 'old' people are EXACTLY the correct people who should be holding the 'chips' right now, because overwhelmingly they are the most likely to die.

And for the sake of their collective experiences (that will be gone forever when they are gone): the rest of us need to help keep them alive!

Manila

day one of the lockdown and curfew being in effect.

needed to go over to the mall quickly today. what a change from normal. no traffic at all. traffic is normally lower on a Sunday, but this was surreal. even Edsa was pretty empty without all the buses lined up honking their horns constantly. normally there are crowds of people by the wet market by the mall. and while there were still people, it was not anywhere near as crowded as normal. also not a single stall vender (which the MMDA is normally at war with removing and confiscating their stuff), by the pedestrian overpass to the mall/LRT station. also no beggars in sight, another oddity. even the store beside the stairs which normally has it's steps filled with all sorts of used pots and pans for sale was empty.

the mall it's self had far less people in it than normal. not even the normal hoard traveling between the two LRT lines (which requires traveling between two of the malls). no line up at all at the ATMs. even the grocery store i went to was fairly empty. just had to wait for the cashier to finish with the customer she was serving, to be cashed out. normally there would be at least a couple people in line. store shelves full as always. with the only things not available being hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, and masks. the same is true for the pharmacies i looked into. no masks (one even had a sign out for that), no rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer. i will add toilet paper is not an issue here for panic buying since pretty much everyone has at least one Tabo at home, or even a spray nozzle to use as a bidet. many never even use toilet paper, so that was never an issue. but any and pretty much every food was stocked and available from what i could see in the grocery store i went to.

even now in the middle of the night (currently 4am), it is super quiet compared to normal. the missing background noise of Edsa traffic in the distance and traffic on the local roads is missing. with only t he occasional vehicle to be heard. pretty much it's eerily quiet.

i am feeling bad for a lot of the poor people that this pandemic is hurting badly. many of them pretty much earn enough a day, to buy their food for the day. yet with people staying in, they are being devastated. saw on sad picture on facebook of one of the wandering food venders. that wander around with a couple of pots hanging on a pole serving food to people. sitting on a curb looking out dejectedly at what is normally a crowded area without a soul in sight to buy from him. and t hat means the only food he and his family will have tonight is the food he couldn't sell. and also means he might not be able to buy more food for him to sell. this is where the true devastation is going to hit. the many millions of poor that normally live earning enough money for food day by day. and with no one out, this means many of them will have no food for their families. and quite likely will also loose their ability to even earn money in the future.

PS you might have noticed i put where i am reporting from/about at the top. people might consider doing the same as it is getting confusing not knowing where people are actually talking about in their comments some of the time.

The USA will be over 10,000-15,000 by Friday

New York even took the unwanted top spot from Washington , but those are just confirmed cases .

How many people will need to be confirmed infected before regional or national lockdowns begin?

I have no doubts it’s coming .

Yep. My calculations of doubling say 12,800 on Friday. That was based on an estimate of 3,200 today. We are already past that at 3,402.

Cuomo is asking businesses to voluntarily close in NY state. Talk from DeBlasio about locking down the city.

I give it about 5 days, before things are forced closed. Hope I am wrong.

Hi All.

What a week it's been. Back at end of January when Wuhan was being quarantined, I never thought we would see that type of reaction in the United States. While no one has been welded into their building they live in (yet), I am really surprised to see how quickly things have come to a stand still in USA and more importantly, here in KC area.

My wife is working from home starting tomorrow, so we have spent several days creating a work space for her in part of the basement, where I also work from home (Ive done that for 12+ years). Our church only did a online service. I went in to run sound for the service (which impacts the live stream) and it was weird to only have like 12 people there, vs around 500 normally. The kids are on Spring break now, but sounds like they could do online school starting as early as next week when school picks back up.

Add into that all the sporting events, parades, etc.

Very surreal. I'm glad I finally broke down and decided to "prepare" long before everyone else did, so I didn't have to go fight people to get toilet paper. LOL. I went to Sam's club the other day, and I went to get a cart and my wife was in line to go in, and I pushed the cart over to be with her and a lady was like... "excuse ME", because I was basically going in front of her (the line was only like 6-7 people long at the door), and I responded, "I'm just going in with my wife" and she responds, "Well, my husband is inside waiting on me". I didn't carry on the conversation any longer, there was no point. Glad she didn't start throwing punches or something.

So much fun.

Watch all these reporters handling all the cameras and talking closely to each other's faces while we wait on the presser to start.
Like I said about the reporters passing the mic back and forth at a previous presser, these reporters are not afraid of any ole virus.

West Virginia needs to immediately ban all flights and travel from anywhere in the world. Lock down their borders . These people can rebuild society and the human race after the rest of the planet perishes!

Sorry for the satire but I do find it comical they have zero reported cases . Are they just not testing anyone ?

Thanks! I'm with my grandmother right now and we were waiting for the special program. I figured they were just getting ready, a bit too late, etc. Like the recent Trump live speech. In the meantime I went to do some shopping for my grandmother and we haven't kept track of it since then.

Anyway, I'm glad the community/doctors/specialists managed to persuade the corrupt government to discuss about closing the schools. I really hope the people will now finally see their power. We decide, not the government.

Take care! Of yourself, your loved ones and your grandmother. Stay safe, if in need ask for help, these are hard times.

Our government is #, especially the last decade, well maybe more but that's another thread on it's own. Depend on real people, PM me for if anything, maybe we live up close and can support each other in any way given.

People need support and our government will not help you and me, you know the kettle, the herd. Us.

There's a 14 day quarantine on anyone entering the country but our idiot goverment is saying the virus will spread less by keeping schools open.

It seems they are actively spreading the disease with one hand while mitigating with t the other...idiots.

Hope the mods don't mind but need to bookmark!

US cases look to be on the rise, one huge area to contain. Can it be done and at what cost?

UK looks like will be 600 odd new cases by Tuesday. Tmrw I will be heading into London but wont be sticking around, coming back to the coast Tuesday and staying there till this virus dies out.

Wow watching the news and it's about the blood shortage a Red Cross rep states that those previously infected but tested clean from virus are safe to give blood after 28 days.

Read alot about this virus staying in peoples system well past their recovery times frames.

I can just see new infections popping up from blood transfusion that occur in the months to come.

I'm sorry for my snottiness to XIdiot, but this is getting wearing.

At the beginning (in China only) I tried warning people just how bad this is only to get the old "its the flu, the flu is worse, you're a scaremongerer" etc.

In earlier threads you had idiots like Necrose "you're all idiots, I know best, this is nothing, hahaha today I can make the maths fit my nothingburger narrative".

Well I'll tell you AGAIN what I KNOW right NOW:

This is the most contageous, easily spreadable disease that mankind has ever encountered.

It's short and long term outcomes are not known yet.

It does NOT only effect old and ill people - the weakest always die first, and even at very early stages, e.g. Italy with only 20,000 or so infected they have to start making decisions who will get help and who won't - the old and ill get nothing, and they die, which skews the figures to look like it's only the old and ill who die.

Imagine when you have 1 million needing help - who gets the ventilator then? teenagers, 20's - who? the age of death will start to come down soon, and rapidly until everyone can see we can all die.

[no virus only kills the old and makes the young immune - it's ludicrous to even suggest it, it's a way to try and get social acceptance for a course of action in the early stages]

Cody, 7 years old has pneumonia from this and is in isoltaion at University Hospital Hartlepool in a bad way - and yet our government want to infect upwards of 40 million people and spread it via schools where it will take off like a forest fire.

Many will die, including many thousands of children.

The (UK) government will then say "oh but we didn't realise, we were told only the old and ill died (like that matters), so it's not our fault - it was unforeseeable".

They know and they know now.

This is bad, so some idiot trying to make out it's okay to go through a drivethrough because you can't catch it from food is like a big kick in the teeth to all those who will die and all of their families.

It's important to stop such idiotic and irresponsible hyperbole.

Evem here on ATS.

But when someone asks you to provide proof you just continue with your knee jerk I know it all drivel.
You have nothing to backup your claims, NOTHING!

This thing is bad is it is, no need for trolls to spread misinformation. If the Covid spread like you think it is than one infected person could infect millions and millions just by running around stores and lick apples and bananas. Stop the nonsense

Again

But to be clear, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes that the coronavirus is spread from person to person mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person sneezes or coughs in close proximity to someone else, not via food consumption.

www.goodhousekeeping.com...

Possibly guilty of a necrotic post there yourself with nothing to back up what you are saying or undermine the poster you’re accusing of the same.

I mean is it fear mongering to say that the UK government is asking car manufacturers and even JCB to switch production to ventilators and they will buy ALL that can be produced? That might end up being a lot of ventilators and it might be nowhere near enough.

To be honest I don’t think anyone, including our politicians, or you, and I include myself, have a clue how bad this could get. People are making seriously silly statements and making incredibly odd decisions.

The numbers are flying up around Europe. The USA is set to explode. I think a little constructive fear at this point is good for us all, without needing to slide into mindless panic or stubborn denial. It isn’t a bad think to actually open our eyes, it’s keeping them closed that is the danger here.

We don't know, but there is no room for making up claims you can't back up. There is no proof what so ever that you can catch CoVid by eating a burger you bought through a drive through or an apple you bought in a store for that matter. If people start spreading misinformation than more people will lose jobs because of rumors. I never said CoVid isn't dangerous. Read through my posts.

You don’t grow Covid-19 on an apple tree or bake it in to a burger. However you do not know if someone has sneezed on or around any food product or it’s packaging. You don’t know it it is on the hands of those serving you or stacking shelves. Only an utter moron would fail to see then that food can be a vehicle for transmission - even at a drive through. Unfortunately it seems the real morons are running our countries, not posting on this thread. Lucky really
