This is why we have to start demanding that industries return to the US and other countries.

Yeah.

But I think the real trick will be in getting consumers to pay more for those products.
That's a problem, competition.

Which is where tariffs come in to play.

Hi

reading Level of IL-6 predicts respiratory failure in hospitalized symptomatic COVID-19
patients

Which has the summary

elevated
interleukin-6 (IL-6) was strongly associated with the need for mechanical ventilation (p=1.2·10-5).
In addition, the maximal IL-6 level (cutoff 80 pg/ml) for each patient during disease predicted
respiratory failure with high accuracy (p=1.7·10-8, AUC=0.98). The risk of respiratory failure for
patients with IL-6 levels of ≥ 80pg /ml was 22 times higher compared to patients with lower IL6 levels.

Which when looking up high levels of IL-6 What is Interleukin 6?has

Tocilizumab, a drug which inhibits the interleukin-6 receptor, has been studied as a therapeutic helper in a variety of chronic inflammatory disorders

Have they used Tocilizumab with a treatment of Covid-19 ?
First Report of MM Patient Successfully Treated for COVID-19 With Tocilizumab reported by Mark S. Lesney April 08, 2020

Recent research has shown that severe cases of COVID-19 show an excessive immune response and a strong cytokine storm, which may include high levels of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GSF) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Following up on that research, investigators from China reported the first case of COVID-19 in a patient with multiple myeloma (MM) who was successfully treated with the humanized anti–IL-6 receptor antibody tocilizumab (an off-label use in the United States)

So another look into the massive amount of cross treating different symptoms to give help to individuals fighting the effects of the virus and the bodies immune system.

No time for double blind testing, it's just time to find if some are dying when given a treatment. -
lots of "oh they could have might have survived without it, so we need to find out if it was effective or a waste of time first" -- What's the extra cost of the treatment a few dollars extra.
I think its time to see if they die with the treatment because people are sure doing that right now, without .

i.e. everyone gets a Zinc and Zinc Ionophores as described in the current off-lable success treatments and this old paper Zn2+ Inhibits Coronavirus and Arterivirus RNA Polymerase Activity In Vitro and Zinc Ionophores Block the Replication of These Viruses in Cell Culture

If the patient still has the need for ventilation and has high IL-6 a single shot of tocilizumab

Not being a doctor nor a expert in any of this but the reports of people dying with current treatment protocols and not dying with a trial protocols tells me existing kills people but saves some money by not using a old well tested drug in a new manner. The jobsworths can tick their sheet going home knowing they followed orders.

Something has to change people.
10,000s of people who have died can not have died for nothing what have learnt from their death?

Right, that's why it comes back to my belief that all the "wet market" is is just a fall guy for the bio-lab. They were messing around with something, it got away from them and here we are. They blame the wet market and hope enough people believe the bs story to get the light off them.

So yeah it looks like military ships are turning out to be getting infected with orvid 19.
I worry for my brother in the Navy.

sputniknews.com... utm_medium=browser_notification&utm_campaign=sputnik_inter_en
This comes as France's death toll from the new coronavirus infection has exceeded 12,000, according to the country's health ministry.

Fifty COVID-19 cases have been registered on board France's Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, the country's defence ministry said.

"The tests confirm 50 COVID-19 cases on board. Three sailors have been evacuated on an aircraft, to be taken to a hospital in France," the French Defense Ministry said in a communique.
Tests have been conducted over suspicions that 40 crew members could be infected.

The aircraft carrier is on the way to its home port in Toulon, the ministry added.

On 9 April, the French health ministry confirmed that the death toll from the new coronavirus in the country stood at 12,210

Reinfection may be fairly common

...which is not good news.

I wonder how much of it is reinfection and how much of it involves false negative test results.

As health officials around the world push to get more ventilators to treat coronavirus patients, some doctors are moving away from using the breathing machines when they can.

The reason: Some hospitals have reported unusually high death rates for coronavirus patients on ventilators, and some doctors worry that the machines could be harming certain patients.

The evolving treatments highlight the fact that doctors are still learning the best way to manage a virus that emerged only months ago. They are relying on anecdotal, real-time data amid a crush of patients and shortages of basic supplies.

Mechanical ventilators push oxygen into patients whose lungs are failing. Using the machines involves sedating a patient and sticking a tube into the throat. Deaths in such sick patients are common, no matter the reason they need the breathing help.

It may be much higher than 40-50 percent....

www.physiciansweekly.com...

Both my husband and I saw papers quoting death rates around 86-87 percent, but I can't find them now, only the above paper. I need to get rolling with the morning so won't be researching further; this is just a heads up that 40-50 percent may be very understated.

Here in the UK we now have certain areas of police checking people’s trollies and baskets when shopping, one woman got a fine for buying wine, snacks and crisps I heard!

A lot of food items still out of stock in my area, still able to get click and collect groceries for now. A few people wearing masks and gloves too.

I’m missing my solitary walks with the dog in a morning, there’s so many people out for a walk these days.

Just food for thought on those considering testing capability.

If they were processing 10 million tests a day, you are still looking at 30 days to get reasonable coverage and understand this thing. Consider that people like health care, police, food workers, grocery personnel etc. should be getting tested at least weekly, probably daily, regardless of symptoms. It's a huge task and they are just getting started.

During today's US Press Conference, Dr. Brix said by statistical sampling, 20% to 22% of US pop is or has been infected with CV19. But noted that some rural areas may only have it 10%.

I imagine the doubling time is now lower than 2.7 days.

Can you please share a link of that? I know that about 20% of those tested are coming back positive, but this is the first I have heard of 20% of the population. Not doubting you, just want to see that for myself, seems really high.

The good news is that means the CFR is very low. The bad news is, we are no where near finished with this thing yet. The peak we are seeing now, may be a false peak.

I think the Navies of the world need to rethink their shore leave policies and ports of call
Fifty COVID-19 cases reported aboard French Navy's aircraft carrier

Fifty crew members aboard France's sole aircraft carrier, the Charles de Gaulle, have tested positive for the new coronavirus, putting parts of the ship into lockdown.

Three sailors had been evacuated by air to a military hospital in Toulon, southern France, the home port of the carrier, a ministry statement said.

A team equipped to carry out tests for coronavirus infection boarded the vessel just after the armed forces ministry had reported signs of COVID-19 symptoms among 40 crew members.

"The results of 66 tests showed 50 cases of COVID-19 aboard the Charles de Gaulle. There is no deterioration of the sailors' medical condition at this stage," the ministry said.

From Johns Hopkins Site :

Countries left without Confirmed Cases :

Turkmenistan
Tajikistan
North Korea
Lesotho

Don't think I see any others, and that just about makes it the whole world now.
I'd consider each of these countries to likely have at least one un-confirmed case, if not many more.

Looks like undocumented migrants are getting expelled as the US tries to lok down the border.

www.bbc.com...
US-Mexico border: Thousands of migrants expelled under coronavirus powers
The US has expelled more than 6,300 undocumented migrants on its Mexico border using emergency powers to curb coronavirus spread, officials say.

The 21 March public health measure lets officials override immigration laws, expediting removal processes.

Critics say the order is being used as an extension of strict immigration policies.

Meanwhile, the number of illegal border crossings has fallen amid travel restrictions across the region.

The emergency public health order issued by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) bans the entry of foreigners considered to pose a "serious danger" to the spread of communicable disease.

The measure, initially in place for 30 days, was necessary to limit the spread of the disease in crowded places such as border patrol stations or ports of entry, said CDC Director Dr Robert R Redfield. The US has the world's highest number of confirmed infections - more than 460,000 - and nearly 16,500 deaths.

Well, Ma just had a call from one of the neighbours, and our tiny village (less than 100 people) would apparently have 3 Confirmed cases.
She's worried about the Dustbins, as the bin men have heavy duty gloves they use on all the bins (Green plastic flip-lid things).
She (neighbour) got the info from the Nurse who was looking after her husband, until he finally died late last year of Cancer.
The Mayor refused to answer her, when questioned on if there were any cases here, so she called the local Nurse.
Bugger.

Looks like the prisons are starting to collapse to the virus:

edition.cnn.com...
An inmate at California State Prison says he is scared of getting coronavirus. 04:45
(CNN)In the United States, the largest known concentration of coronavirus cases outside of hospitals isn't on a cruise ship or in a nursing home. It's at a jail in Chicago.

At least 276 detainees and 172 staff members -- mostly correctional deputies -- at Cook County Jail have tested positive for coronavirus, the county sheriff's office said Wednesday. Two detainees who tested positive for the virus have died as of Thursday, and more than 20 detainees are hospitalized.
Across the country, prisons and jails have become hotbeds for coronavirus. Close confinement is likely fueling the spread.
"Jails in this country are petri dishes," said Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Board president. "It's very difficult in a jail to maintain social distancing."
But this isn't just a major health problem. It's also a growing safety concern.

That is one of the most likely options, the natural angle doesn't cut it from any angle and when you have secrecy, misinformation, no information, no consideration, lies and too many coincidences and failed to take urgent steps to protect those beyond your borders then you are guilty of global genocide whether the cause was accidental or not! This is why I named the virus "The Chrojan Virus".
