38% of American beer drinkers will not buy Corona beer

Psychology at work - here in UK it's the same according to local shop keeper - frightened because it has the word corona in it.

That is a pretty astute observation. I would think that New Yorkers would be good identifying siren sounds in the same way a person living in the woodlands would be good at identifying bird songs.

That's their environment.

That seems meaningless in isolation. In order to know what effect coronavirus is having, there would need to be a comparable survey before the coronavirus outbreak to ask what percent of beer drinkers would not buy corona beer. If that survey also showed 38% would not buy corona, then there has been no change. But the article mentions no such baseline for the 38% number. It does say that corona beer drinkers haven't been affected much:

It's worth noting that, among regular Corona drinkers, only 4% said they would now refrain — that raises questions about whether the virus is, in fact, affecting consumer attitudes toward the brand.
There you go, only 4% of regular corona drinkers would now avoid it, the other 96% still drink it. So a small effect exists perhaps, but not as large as the misleading headline implies.

Street talk from New York city friends on Facebook. They are reporting that this morning they have heard ambulances pretty much non-stop, one after another, all morning. These are people located in Manhattan. I've heard it from three different sources now. I think its safe to assume that most of these ambulances were due to the virus given that they are all remarking on how unusual it is to hear so many ambulances.

Ummm... safe to ass-u-me? Really? I spent 9 months in Manhattan back in 79, and another 6 months in 81, and I heard ambulances all the frickin time.

It's literally all you hear right now, i'm in the bronx, I don't think you can go about 5 mins without hearing one.

You can’t make this stuff up!
South Carolina issues a statewide burn ban due to the virus. You can’t even gave a campfire for you folks stuck at home, nor a burn barrel, let alone burn your leaves/limbs from all the yard work done from having no job.

What next, are they going to ban people from smoking?

Temporary Burials to Begin for COVID-19 Victims, Likely in Trenches in NYC Parks: Levine

New York City will soon need to face the "gruesome reality" of temporary burials, and they'll likely take place in city parks, New York City Council health committee chair Mark Levine said in a tweet Monday morning.

Due to the number of dead bodies increasing on a daily basis due to COVID-19, the freezers at OCME facilities in Manhattan and Brooklyn will soon be full, Levine said.

This means that the city will probably have to turn to temporary internment in city parks, Levine said. "Trenches will be dug for 10 caskets in a line. It will be done in a dignified, orderly -- and temporary -- manner. But it will be tough for NYers to take," he wrote.

I just watched Cuomo's press conference. He was asked about this, and to his knowledge it is not true.

It's a contingency plan.

From your link... sounds like a good proactive measure to me

After consultation with officials with the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, State Forester Scott Phillips ordered the statewide burning ban in the interest of public safety amid the current public health threat posed by the COVID-19 virus. Not only can smoke exacerbate the symptoms of those who have contracted the virus, but it also can trigger underlying respiratory issues in otherwise unaffected individuals, which could result in symptoms similar to those the COVID-19 virus is known to cause. "For infected individuals, breathing smoke could make coronavirus symptoms worse, increasing the risk of hospitalization or death," said Dr. Brannon Traxler, DHEC Physician Consultant. "It could also cause people who have not contracted the coronavirus, but who are presenting COVID-19-like symptoms, to seek medical care at a time when medical resources are already stretched thin."

First responders have a lot more important stuff to do than respond to some yahoo who let his bonfire get out of control. This is actually one of the few proactive and smart things my state has done so far.

If you go to his twitter feed and read his tweets is pretty horrifying. The refrigerated trucks are filling up and those hold 100 bodies each. Some hospitals have more than one truck. Funeral homes are full. It’s not just deaths in hospitals which are up. On an average day before this crisis there were 20-25 deaths at home in NYC. Now it's about 200 a day. It paints a pretty gruesome picture.

It’s South Carolina with a high RH, it’s like a swamp jungle there, everything is green. unlike California with RH’s in the teens with dry cheat grass all over. Does Cali currently have a statewide burn ban?

I couldn't give a monkeys if these celebs get it or not but it is really dangerous - ok maybe not to all but so many people have died of this that wouldn't have if this didn't exist.

You actually don't know that - many very well may have.

The parents of the 6 week old baby who died, the 5 year old and 13 year old in the UK. Innocent young people who have had their lives taken.

But not by COVID-19 - those were proven to have been false claims.

Well, I actually live here, and it’s not all swamp and green. We have been prone to droughts the last many years, and even in a non-drought year there’s still plenty of chance for backyard fires and such to get out of control easily.

We have curbside yard waste pickup, having a back yard fire is not an essential liberty at this exact moment.

So you're saying that more people died in the whole of 2017, than they have so far this year by CV?

No, Hecate is saying that more people died during the 2017/18 flu season - you know, the period of November 2017 to about March or April of 2018 - that season... about the same amount of time we've been dealing with COVID-19.

Very gruesome. It now seems like instead of a real peak, we are headed for a plateau. So high death rate for days or weeks.

They will have to put the bodies someplace, and parks make sense. If this is the plan though, it seems someone forgot to inform the governor.

Let me know if you can find an example of a flu season that directly killed hundreds of doctors, nurses, and paramedics.

Where's the list of hundreds of doctors, nurses and paramedics?

Generally speaking people don't need a ventilator or supplemental oxygen to recover from the flu.

You're right - they need it for complications resulting from the flu... just like people with COVID-19.

Key Coronavirus Model Now Predicts Many Fewer U.S. Deaths

A Sunday update of a prominent COVID-19 forecasting model suggests that fewer lives will be lost during the first wave of the coronavirus outbreak than previously thought.

The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) now predicts that 81,766 people will die of COVID-19 in the U.S. through early August. When the model was last updated, on April 2, it predicted 11,765 deaths more deaths, for a total of 93,531.

The model, which has been cited by the White House, relies on numbers from China, Italy, Spain, and areas around the U.S. The change in prediction is due to “a massive infusion of new data,” IHME director Dr. Christopher Murray said in a press release.
