One of our customers at the company I work for is a local hospital. I found out that their IT Department head has died from the coronavirus. He was 40 years of age and had no underlying health conditions.

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson in 'good spirits' in hospital

It's why we cook animals up to 160 degrees, to kill off stuff. Unless you are into eating raw cow, duck, chicken or bat, I think you are good.

What if it passes onto herds of animals and begins to sicken the animals? Or there are large die-offs? How might that affect the food supply chain?

To me that would be the more appropriate concern when talking about the possibility of animal infection & transmission.

If Boris was alright he'd be photographed and videod sat up in bed in his jimmy jams saying "stay home, protect the NHS, save lives".

But he's not.

Which strongly suggests to me that the Russians are telling the truth and he's currently got a pipe down his throat to keep him alive.

Interesting that Chris Whitty, and the health minister who got it on the same day, after all hanging around together are now both okay - they must surely have had the same strain.

So what's the difference between the 3 of them apart from their genetics and personal immune system? Whitty looks older, Boris is heavier than the other 2.

So maybe being overweight is a massive factor in the outcome - blood pressure, diabetes, other weight related possibilities?

When we had foot and mouth they basically rounded up ALL of the cattle from affected areas, killed them and then burned the bodies on huge bonfires.

Yes, because a press release in a hospital with a contagious man is just the thing you want going on.

I'm not sure what the difference is with them all, but it does affect people in different ways. Who knows.

I think to prevent panic they'd show pics of him to show he's not too ill.

The rumours are he's on a ventilator.

I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Actually, it might be a wake up call to the rest of the world. I know the area that I am in, still is not totally on board with things going on.

If he is on a vent, showing that might make people sit up and take note. "hey, if it can happen to a world leader, it could happen to me!"

That said, I hope he has not had to go on to a vent, and am sending prayers, and thoughts for a speedy recovery to him, and all of you over there.

Looks like the death rate is going up at a much more faster rate now.

50k around 2 weeks ago... now at 70k. That's 20k in 2 weeks, 50k in 3 months.

must be to do with a lot of country's reaching their peak times now.

Pretty certain he's not on a ventilator (yet) as he's conscious and hasn't handed over power (two thirds of people on ventilators in the UK die at current rates). That rumour came from Russian state news but he did require oxygen while in hospital. Number 10 have been lying and downplaying the severity of the condition but upgraded it as more severe today and refused to deny he was/is on oxygen.

Seems the longer cases have more complications associated with it and a high chance of requiring oxygen and/or ventilators. Mate who's a nurse has said majority of those on ventilators here (North Lancs) are people in their 20s and 30s.

Have any animals displayed illness from this, though? From the reports on pets testing positive, it just seemed to be positive carriers, but nothing I saw about it actually causing respiratory illnesses

Well the tiger was confirmed to have a uneasy cough.

I'd say thats primary symptom just like humans. This particular cat needs to be watched.

Oh -

And isolated of course.

Let me know if you can find an example of a flu season that directly killed hundreds of doctors, nurses, and paramedics.

This is only the numbers for Americans. If they flew around the globe, I'm sure they infected just as many in other countries that year. But nobody put it on the news or you'd be amazed.
edition.cnn.com...

This one is even on your side but states that we don't have as many deaths [yet?], it also says that this is 10x deadlier than any other flu BUT we also know that the tests give false positives and that there are not yet covid-19 tests, only corona virus [which we all carry]. We also know that deaths have been miscounted:
www.health.com...

Over 100 doctors and nurses died of corona virus whilst fighting it:
www.newsweek.com...

Problem is half of them were in Italy. Why not in the USA or in Germany or in Sweden, where they do not have a lockdown?

Last time I looked, doctors and nurses are human too and with the lack of safety equipment due to the hysteria, they are more likely to catch it this time round. Nurses and doctors have underlying health problems too, and worldwide we have 'only' 100 cases. 3000 people die every year of choking on fishbones alone [not counting chicken bones or other objects].

I am not disrespecting the profession nor do I want to downplay it, but again, with all the knowledge we have, the reason for their death is often the lack of protection [no facemasks, bad hygiene due to too many people, stress and anxiety [lowers immune systems].

Can anyone here show me that NO doctors or nurses ever died before during a flu season? Or was it just not reported?
Tried to find anything about medical health death rates but to no avail.

I admire their work but just like police they know it is a dangerous job. Same way that a lot of firefighters die in their jobs or Police or even builders.

I also know that human kind will get through this faster and better if we just do very common sense precautions. Keep distances from each other, wash hands regularly and keep the older and vulnerable away from the daily hustle and bustle.
I know that some here desperately want this to be really different from other flues and yeah, it is, kind of, it's a really bad one, not as bad as the Spanish flu but it is bad.

But it isn't the end of human kind. It is just a really bad episode.

If all of Sweden is dead in 2 weeks time, then the scare mongers will be right and I will change my mind. But they won't be.

The flu season is coming to an end and so will this very soon. The results of the panic however will last years and will lead to many deaths.

TL;DR:

Bad, bad, bad badbadbadbadbad flue season. Not the end of the world. Nurses and doctors thanks, but you are human too and have to be very careful. That doesn't make me wrong, it just means you don't have the protection this year thanks to hoarders and panickers who unfortunately bought all the stock that should have gone to you like in previous years, when people weren't acting like headless chickens. Don't blame me for that.

And to answer as to my credentials. I am a scientist [used to be]. Both in a biological field and Chemistry/ Pharmaceuticals/ Food sciences. I developed many, many methods for testing anything really.

These methods had to take into account everything to work. I had to think critically, think of correlations and outside influences that could affect the results and make it wrong.
I did this for many years and therefore my brain asks more questions that that of a nurse or a teacher or a driving instructor [who all have abilities that I don't have too].

I was just as concerned as others at the start but the more comes to light, the more I see what is wrong with our reaction to false positives, bad tests, overreactions and counts of deaths not directly due to this virus.

Don't hate me or my opinion, hate the virus. Which I didn't release BTW. I'll stick with mine until [as I said before] Sweden gets extinct.

Temporary Burials to Begin for COVID-19 Victims, Likely in Trenches in NYC Parks: Levine

New York City will soon need to face the "gruesome reality" of temporary burials, and they'll likely take place in city parks, New York City Council health committee chair Mark Levine said in a tweet Monday morning.

Due to the number of dead bodies increasing on a daily basis due to COVID-19, the freezers at OCME facilities in Manhattan and Brooklyn will soon be full, Levine said.

This means that the city will probably have to turn to temporary internment in city parks, Levine said. "Trenches will be dug for 10 caskets in a line. It will be done in a dignified, orderly -- and temporary -- manner. But it will be tough for NYers to take," he wrote.

In the 1800's there was a cholera epidemic where I grew up and one of the local parks became a mass grave. They were never relocated and the park is still very popular with the public to this day.

There's even a grave stone to mark the tragedy...but it's usually hidden so deep within some bushes that you can only find it if you know where to look.

History always seems to repeat itself in the end...sad, but true...

Street talk from New York city friends on Facebook. They are reporting that this morning they have heard ambulances pretty much non-stop, one after another, all morning. These are people located in Manhattan. I've heard it from three different sources now. I think its safe to assume that most of these ambulances were due to the virus given that they are all remarking on how unusual it is to hear so many ambulances.

Ummm... safe to ass-u-me? Really? I spent 9 months in Manhattan back in 79, and another 6 months in 81, and I heard ambulances all the frickin time.

As a scientist you should be going with current evidence
How can you know mankind will get through this faster and better?
the data so far suggests no gained immunity, the virus can still transmit.

To say in general it's isn't that bad is also not considering all of the unknown's
the medium-long-term effects, the nature of the virus itself still in question, all without is incomplete data
i think we all would like the best outcome and encourage optimism, but it's just too early in the game to make a diagnosis.

Incoming Woke CT's with their videos of empty ER's , lobbies and parking lots from states that aren't hot spots for this.

Overall just an Earth changing experience going on right now.
Sadly my family and social circles are located literally in the epicenter of this for America as we all live in PA and NJ.

I lived in Manhattan for several years too and yes there are sirens throughout the day. The friends I'm quoting here also live in Manhattan currently and have lived there for years and know what the normal number of sirens is on a daily basis. They are reporting that the number now is a significant and noticeable increase over the normal daily number. They are New Yorkers and know the difference in regular activity and unusual activity in their own city.
