From the BBC Live Feed

- 9.22 : Testing rolled out for Frontline Health Service Staff in England.
This weekend, workers with symptoms, or those who live with people who have symptoms, will be checked - starting with critical care doctors and nurses.
In Wales, frontline NHS staff are already being screened for the virus.

- 9.44 : People in UK asked to exercise locally. (without explaining as to what 'locally' actually means, and people are wondering if they can use their cars.)
*Facepalm*

- 10.09 : 'Vaccine development', faster than ever.
Prof Sarah Gilbert who is leading a team developing a UK vaccine at the University of Oxford, says they are "looking to speed up the process that usually takes 12-18 months, by 'overlapping' phases of the trials. With this pandemic, vaccine development is going faster than it ever has before but we can’t miss steps out."

- 10.21 : Ireland has increased its restrictions this morning :
- From Now until Easter Sunday, all are to saty at home unless their work is 'Essential' or to go out to buy food.
- Should only travel more than 2Km from their homes when 'Absolutely Necessary'.

- 10.45 : (From Summary) :
- A woman in her 80's is first person in Jordan to die from Coronavirus.
- Thailand has reported another death and 109 new cases. This brings the total there to 1,245 infections and six deaths, officials say

- 11.32 : UK wary of International Market for Ventilators.

The equipment is usually made in China and is then purchased by middlemen who offer it on.
The market price for one particular type of ventilator increased in a week from $27,000 (£21,700) to $96,000 (£77,100) - a sign of just how intense the demand is.

- 12.49 : Demand for German Ventilators outstrips supply, 10x what company can produce, ays Stefan Dräger, the head of the world’s biggest producer of respirators.
US Govt has ordered 100,000, equivalent to the annual Global Production of Ventilators, and Germany has orderd 10,000 for its own Hospitals.
However, components come from all over the world, and could hamper production at the facility.

- 13.14 : More than 9,444 Spanish Health Workers are confirmed to have the virus, up from 5,400 on 24th March.

- 14.31 : Inside UK Makeshift Hospital 'NHS NIghtingale London' at ExCeL Centre : (All Pics supplied by UK Govt)

- 14.50 : What are the two types of Test for Coronavirus ?

There are two main types of test that are useful in fighting the epidemic:

- The antigen or "have I got coronavirus now?" test will tell you if someone is currently infected and risks spreading it to others. That's the one that is being used to check very ill patients in hospitals and will now be rolled out to NHS staff too.

- The antibody or "have I recently had coronavirus" test is not available to the public yet but Public Health England is ordering it in the millions and will distribute it as soon as they are confident about its accuracy. That would help tell us how many people got coronavirus with no or only mild symptoms.

- 15.21 : UK : As of 9am 28th March, 120,776 people have been tested, and of those, 103,687 were Negative, and 17,089 Positive.

- 13.14 (?) : UK : Wolverhampton's 'New Cross Hospital' has set up a shop so under-pressure staff don't have to visit supermarkets.
More than 10% of Workers are currently off sick, or self-isolating.

- 16.13 :GLobal cases top 600,000 (but extra info)

Global cases topped 100,000 on 6 March, 200,000 on 18 March, 300,000 on 21 March and 400,000 on 24 March, the (John Hopkins) university's dashboard shows.

- 16.46 : First Working NHS Surgeon dies in UK.

Dr Adel El Tayar died on Wednesday at a hospital in London. Tributes poured in for the 63-year-old, who was originally from Sudan, following news of his death.
BBC presenter Zeinab Badawi, Dr El Tayar's cousin, said he had volunteered to be on the frontline of the health service to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

17.00 : Downing St Briefing :
- Staff can defer annual leave for 2 years.
- More Hand Sanitizer 'in days'. UK will be 'reducing Red-Tape' to get it to market quicker.
- If we keep Deaths under 20,000 'We will have done well'.
- UK 'Not yet at capacity' for Intensive Care Beds.

4 Days more to hit 300K
1.5 Days more to hit 400K
~2 Days (?) to 500K
~1.5 Days to 600K.

I am going to play the role of “Gloomy Gus”, in this reply. No one and I mean NO ONE knows the long term ramifications of this disease. We know the immediate short term is a 5% chance of death of those who have a confirmed infection. But, I have looked at the numbers, looking back to those verified as infected 9 days prior, and observe a 10-11% death rate. (I know, depending on what factors one uses, one can come up with almost any percentage of death rate. In fact I have been able to find it actually has a 100% death rate, but the time frame is 125 years after infection. Need a source on that, get back to me in 125 years from now.) I do not have a large enough data base built for myself on the US numbers, but for what I do have, it appears like it is leaning towards the 10-11% death rate, also.

Right now we only know the immediate ramifications. We do not know the short term nor long term ramifications. And it is the long term ramifications that the youth are ignoring. Sulphur Mustard (mustard gas) might give some clues as to the long term issues. While the two issues are different, one being communicable and exposure to non-animate objects, with the other more direct contact, they both have the ability to harm the respiratory tract. While the youth may not feel this is anything more than a severe flu with flu type symptoms, in twenty years from now they may have huge breathing problems. Smoking was once considered a healthy addiction, until long term studies were able to start proving otherwise.
The following articles might give a glimpse as to potential issues with this disease.

The following have tested positive for Covid-19:
1 out of 700 Italians (with a 10.5% death rate)
1 out of 3000 Americans (with a 1.6% death rate)
1 out of 12,000 in the world (with a 4.5% death rate)

What about all the people that have had it and developed mild symptoms and are clear which is the vast majority of those that have had it, you see those numbers don't really work when you consider it like that.

We horde TP. Iranians drink methanol.

The lack of trust in what they get told by their government and press has driven many to seek alternative remedies, and at least 300 have died from the mistaken belief that drinking methanol will disinfect them internally.

It's just the speed of spread and the infectiousness.
It doesn't take into account the severity of the infection, or not.

In all fairness, it DID disinfect them, but there are, you know.. SIDE EFFECTS (death).

A point seems to be missed here, some covid-19 carriers don't have any symptoms, however they are still just as contagious as those with the virus, hence the importance of mass testing

Trump is considering quarantine of New York, New Jersey and parts of Connecticut.

It seems to eliminate travel to other states, and would be enforceable.

Would he have to declare Martial Law in those areas?

no. It's more a restriction on traveling to other parts of the country. But it may as well be.

In order to enforce that, he would have to block highways and roads in and out of the states. Otherwise, just saying it would do nothing.

You can be arrested. Clearly and simply. If you think leaving is worth it.

(b) Apprehension, detention, or conditional release of individuals

Regulations prescribed under this section shall not provide for the apprehension, detention, or conditional release of individuals except for the purpose of preventing the introduction, transmission, or spread of such communicable diseases as may be specified from time to time in Executive orders of the President upon the recommendation of the Secretary, in consultation with the Surgeon General,[1].

From BBC Live Feed :

- 18.32 : USA approves fast test kits : 5mins to Positive, 13 mins to Negative result.
(Example given is Rand Paul, who had to wait 6 days for his results to come back).

- 17.32 : Quote from President Trump about Quarantine :

"We’d like to see New York quarantined because it’s a hotspot — New York, New Jersey, maybe one or two other places, certain parts of Connecticut quarantined," he said on his way to Virginia to see a US Navy hospital ship off on its two-day journey to New York City.

"I’m thinking about that right now. We might not have to do it, but there’s a possibility that sometime today we’ll do a quarantine - short-term two weeks for New York, probably New Jersey and parts of Connecticut.”[/quote]
