Oh F-me.

They say to wash your hands as much as possible.

As someone who has done washing up as a job for quite a few summers (700+ Couverts), my hands bled after a while at ther joints and cracks.
I ended up using thick gloves.

If you use nice soap, you are fine, go ahead.

I was using the soap from a dispenser, and they are anti-bacterial and fungicide, and wreak havoc on the skin, if over-used.
Use normal soap, or nice soap, not the industrial stuff at work.
Don't over abuse.

edit : Just about any liquid soap at work will be anti-bacterial and fungicide so use sparingly and rinse well.

My hands are getting chapped from the sanitizer.

The whole point of washing and rinsing well is to actually remove the dirt and germs from your hands, and down the drain. Soap will not kill most bugs I guess. But getting them off is just as good.

Also some of the antibacterial stuff does not kill 100%, and what lives becomes immune and gets stronger. Not sure if that is true for virus as well or not.

Normal soap will destroy or hurt the fatty layer that surrounds the virus.
It will help using just normal soap.

The age data is specific to china, not a great representation of western cultures. We have much different lifestyles, health etc.

The don’t panic message is being pushed hard in the USA now, and with good reasons. Saw a brawl video from a Walmart near me and two women were beating up one woman over hand sanitizer.

America was a little crazy before this so things could get hairy .

Oh yeah we also have hundreds of millions of guns in America.
What is going to happen when grandma or someone is turned away from a hospital because they are over capacity.

Some people in America will get really crazy I’m afraid .

I seriously hope not. I have seen videos of people fighting over a chicken sandwich from Popeye's though. So you are probably right.

That is actually one amazing chicken samdwhich if you love spicy food like i do !

From Louisiana, all schools shut down till mid April. My daughter’s last day was today.

36 hits across the state with 26 in Orleans Parish (New Orleans) alone.

Yeah, but Western culture has much more elderly people. They are the ones we have to care for and at the same time they are the ones that spread the virus in EU. But that's the main point ... just to slow down the spread of the virus for the healthcare system. The rate of the new infection is around 20 - 35 percent per day and this is enormous. The healthcare workers are the heroes of this crisis.

www.google.co.uk...

Shows how many have died in age groups and with underlying medical conditions vs how many contracted the virus in those groups.

The stats were useful thanks 👍🏻

No so keen on the text.

This is truly frightening. It reads like the uk govt are deliberately condemning a large of of the population to their death (or the elderly and vulnerable).

Bojo telling us we are going to lose family members is simply chilling.

I put *graphic* for the simple fact that maybe someone doesn't want to see a dead body.

Brick! I forgive you for sounding like Boris' fanboy. If you are a squaddie then it is not surprising (I say "if", because suddenly your grammar is a lot better and you are towing the party line to a T, and lately I am paranoid). You're basically brainwashed to lap it all up. I don't mean to be offensive, it's just the truth as far as I'm concerned. It used to be Queen and country, now it's the Tory party.

Come on though...

Yes there is logic in herd immunity, but clearly not by infecting the whole 60% at once!! You get there gradually! By ACTUALLY slowing it down, not by doing naff all!

For this strategy, you have to let some get infected, then shut down completely. Let it die back, then open up again. Spread will be slower this time due to partial herd immunity. Full herd immunity may be achievable without having to shut down again. That is slowing it down. Not letting it run rampant all the way to 60%!

I highly doubt Italy is anywhere near 60% infected and they are properly messed up. That is not the way to do it, it is as clear as day.

You did say for a small % well sh# happens. Well as cold as that is, you've got no chance of achieving even as little as 2% with that kind of rush on the system. You'll have millions dying in the streets and at home and all the chaos that comes with it.

I have to admit if I had to make the call about taking actions that would result in higher deaths in the short term to save lives in the long term, I would go for long term every time.

A little inspiration out of Italy. Residents joined together in a "flash mob" from balconies to sing their national anthem to raise morale during the coronavirus lockdown. Thanks Italy!

I would go for long term also, SO definitely agree with you, which is exactly why right now IMHO first we should prioritize a response in this order:

1) Protective gear for the front line health personnel, to keep them working, and to recruit everyone else possible (nearing the end of training, or retired by calling them back the way the NHS is doing in the UK and is being done in Italy, among others) why - because 'manpower' is needed

2) Increase the space for ICU beds and the number thereof - because those that die will mostly die for lack of these, but this (creating new intensive care unit bed space with all that is needed) is a very slow process, it should have already been started when this became a potential issue back in January at a minimum, but now has fallen to #2 in priority....

3) Increase triage areas for sick patients, as is being done in most places, and increase triage resources including free fast easy testing (it is late, but coming)

4) number 4 - which may have earlier been equal to number 1 above importantly - limit spread by all means necessary. This would be #1 if it hadn't been realistically implemented so late in this pandemic, which is soooo political that I won't go there right now. But yeah, treating people would have initially come AFTER limiting spread in a rational situation, but now 'the cat is out of the bag' so we gotta concentrate on keeping people alive, instead of just keeping people from not getting sick. SUX. We lost our chance to make limiting spread #1 in the US at least, and now we are going to suffer the consequences. I personally am somewhat jealous of the Asian countries that have acted aggressive early, and appear to have limited spread somewhat.

But how certain is this to work? Can we trust a government who has lied to us before to be telling the truth now? I am sure of one thing though, Bojo won’t be sacrificing his own father, just all of ours.
