Where are all the people who were saying the virus was doomporn and would fizzle out in a few weeks?

They made new accounts probably .

Insane time we live in .

I think the point is, that looking at what happened in Italy (where the medical community got swamped), if you don't get ahead of the need in terms of hospital beds (and in particular ICU slots), then you'll wind-up having to need more crematoriums instead.

CNN says the US should emulate what's happening in Hong Kong. They are keeping their virus contamination low because everybody who tests positive, has to wear an ankle monitor and not leave the house.

Uh, you're allowed to be a human being here and not only a physician. And I feel the same way about the people responsible.

NC health dept over the weekend strongly suggested that people stay away from crowds at restaurants and bars. Since people didn't listen, the governor ordered them all closed today at 5PM.

This is a problem: people aren't listening. Pretty soon the whole country will be in lockdown because many citizens ignored the pleas to stop congregating and stay away from crowds.

So ... we'll leave them open, but you are not supposed to use them? How many people decided to go out and actually wanted to get into a crowd? I think it's a bit unfair to blame them.

We already know from statistics that only one half of 1% of everyone in the United States infected with coronavirus needs hospitalization.

How many Americans would need to contract coronavirus to swamp the 200,000 available ICU beds?

In the absence of sufficient places in intensive care, caregivers in the areas most affected by the epidemic tell us that they have given up intubating 70-year-old patients, already sick.

Faced with the massive influx of patients in France, certain resuscitations, like many in the Grand-Est, are already saturated. Therefore the dreaded question arises: if we can not treat everyone, should we favor certain people? Delphine nods. “It's like in war medicine, you have to make choices. It will be based on age or health status. "

Those of you out there still not understanding what a pandemic means, read this story in France, (I even translated it for you) this is already happening they don’t have sufficient instruments to help everyone sick. Reminder, I am pretty sure none of us have lived thru a pandemic, I am sure the First thing coming to your mind about the flu vs a pandemic is wrong....

Coronavirus: "We will have to choose" between patients, admit caregivers

Deny ignorance.

Yeah, It was announced earlier that Military planes would be used to transport the patients to the Military Field Hospital in Alsace.
Not sure where it's from-to though.
A first in France's History, even in war time.

Today it was just a 38€ fine for being out and about (without proper justification/papers).
As of tonight, its 138€ fine.

I have a question, is it possible that this virus might be a binary biological weapon meant to weaken or change something so the next virus attack exploits that vulnerability created by the first virus and wipes us out? Then the selected survivors are given a vaccine for the second virus.

Has anyone thought of that?

Eh, the DEATH rate is higher than that (~4% in china and higher in Italy).

I don't know what the solution is but I'm on Nextdoor app and many people on there are saying "screw the rules" and purposely going out in groups.

Almost every coronavirus case that died in America was in the hospital first.

Less than 1/2 of 1% of people in America who get coronavirus require hospitalization. And roughly half of those recovered, and were discharged.

It wouldn't take many considering the average recovery time in the hospital runs to 3 weeks.

"And this is why we can't have nice things." Or, more accurately, why controls may become more harsh.

You know math is easy right?

Estimated 60% infection rate... 330M * 0.6 = 198M
Using your numbers of 1/2 of 1% (Don't know where you pulled that number from);
198M * 0.01 = 1.98M
1.98M * 0.5 = 990,000

That's 4.95x the amount of ICU slots stated (200K)

It's the whole " You can't tell me what to do." attitude people have today. That's what's helping to spread this.
