A health minister who has met hundreds of people in parliament in the past week and attended a reception at No 10 with Boris Johnson has had coronavirus diagnosed, The Times can reveal.

Nadine Dorries, who played a role in drawing up legislation to tackle coronavirus, fell ill on Friday last week and her diagnosis was confirmed this evening. She is now in isolation and understood to be recovering.

Coachella, the most celebrated music festival in the US, has confirmed plans to move from April to October over coronavirus concerns.

“At the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities, we must sadly confirm the rescheduling of Coachella and Stagecoach due to COVID-19 concerns,” the festival said in a press release on Tuesday. “While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.”

Update: Wednesday March 11 time:8:30 am Tokyo

1. PM Abe says a $4.1 billion bill approved for the virus out break (breakdown on how this is released is extensive )
2. large scale gatherings for the next 10 days are asked not to be held
3. 530 cases of infections
4. 696 cases of infections from the Diamond Princess (anyone got up to date quotes on this )
5. 17 deaths 7 are from the Diamond Princess
6. Hokkaido 111 cases of infection (subject to change today)
7. 49 cases nationwide are reported to serious condition
8. 427 people have recovered (this is good news)
9. crude futures (missed the info on that)
10. 99000 barrels of oil a day drop according to IEA (mostly due to the situation in China)
11. US Forces in Afghanistan are to be reduced. (something to do with a 14 month reduction time period) but there are to be troops still in Afghanistan. ( www.msn.com... )


12. There are cases where other JR railway companies across the country suspend sightseeing trains and temporary trains due to event cancellations, but there is no reduction in regular routes. (just in )

Yeah they don't have it under control at all
Containment phase surely means you take some measures to contain - so far nothing.
No advice to the elderly or immuno-compromised to stay home - it's just insane

I've thought the same about most of these for a while now. Once all the flu is worse people realize the severity of the situation SWHTF

I watched the NBC evening news tonight, I don't care for NBC, but they seem to be doing a pretty good job on reporting.

However, they were very contradictory.

They had one of the experts that have been dealing with the outbreak in Washington. She said the numbers are higher than confirmed, she figured at least 1,100 (this was before we broke 1000, probably recorded earlier, or yesterday), and went on to say that she figures within 6 weeks the US will have over 70,000 cases.

Immediately after they had another "expert" on that repeated the line of "risk remains low", not spreading fast, and most will recover.

Insane!

Yeah good point surely he has to self quarantine!

Thanks for so many good wishes. It’s been pretty rubbish but I hope I’m over the worst of it now. More worried about my 84yo mum who is staying with me and began with the cough today. She is being tested tomorrow. Keep safe and keep washing those hands, everyone.

If you can't get tested you can't test positive and if you don't test positive the number of cases doesn't go up.

Yeah, so prevent a little panic now for a tradeoff of a BIG panic later on when bodies begin to pile up. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Trying to avoid a panic only makes sense if the trigger for the panic isn't real.

Personally, I pity the poor suckers who know nothing about this coronavirus problem and run out of toilet paper and find none to be had anywhere. Imagine the shock.

More and more companies doing this, yet the government is still as happy as a clam to have schools open to act as little breeding reactors.

Hi, I hope this hasn't been posted and actually qualifies as an update. If not... and sorry.

Joe Rogan had an expert on the matter on his podcast and boy, he's not sugarcoating:

- predicts about 500.000 deaths in the us alone over the next 6 - 12 months
- mentions an email from a cardiologist in Milan, Italy. Among the horrible things contained in said email are reports of many ppl in the '40-something age range' having severe symptoms, disputing the narrative 'its only an old people disease'
- much more: they discuss efficacy of different mask types, the possibility of this being a man-made virus etc.
